Filed under: Etc. , Humor Got some time to burn? Of course you do! iMotor Mag has created a game to punish the wayward children of esteemed Italian design houses. Where designers such as Pininfarina and Bertone have penned gems like the Ferrari F599 and the...
• China seen producing scaled-down knockoff of Peugeot Hoggar concept

Filed under: Concept Cars , China , Peugeot The Peugeot Hoggar Concept from 2003 was a two-seat buggy named for an Algerian desert, designed to be "a sports car for extreme conditions." It had two cast alloy seats in the middle, and two transverse, 180-horsepower diesel engines - one mounted up front, one out back - driving each axle through two semi-automatic gearboxes. The cabin was, as one might expect of a showcar, filled with leather and aluminum. But the Peugeot Hoggar Concept is not the vehicle you see above - it's a smaller Hoggar knockoff made in China by an as-yet-unknown firm, evidently created by using images of the Hoggar found online. Like the concept, it has four-wheel drive, but that's about where the overlap ends. It's powered by an 800cc Chery QQ engine running through a five-speed gearbox. You can compare and contrast the two cars for yourselves in the gallery below. Gallery: Shanzai Hoggar Clone Gallery: Peugeot Hoggar Concept [Sources: China Car...
• Audi R15 wins debut at 12 Hours of Sebring

Filed under: Motorsports , Audi , Peugeot 2009 12 Hours of Sebring - Click above for high-res image gallery The R8, the R10 and now the R15. Each of Audi's last three prototype Le Mans race cars have won their race debut, with the latest R15 recording its first victory yesterday at the 57th 12 Hours of Sebring. The winning #2 R15 was driving by Audi's dream team of Allan McNish, Dindo Capello and Tom Kristensen. Of course, Audi's win did not come easy in the top tier Le Mans P1 class. Peugeot was right there the whole time with its pair of diesel-powered 908 HDi cars, swapping the lead with Audi a total of 23 times. In fact, both teams remained on the same lap with each other throughout the entire 12-hour race. • Audi R15 dominates first day of Sebring testing

Filed under: Motorsports , Acura , Audi , Peugeot LMP1 testing at 12 Hours of Sebring - Click above for high-res image gallery See that blurry race car behind the Peugeot 908HDi in the above image? That's the new Audi R15 , and when the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race gets underway this weekend, don't expect these two cars to be in this order very often. After Monday's first full day of official testing at Sebring, Audi's third-generation Le Mans racer, the R15, proved that it was the car to beat. Audi is fielding two R15s this year, and the No. 2 car driven by dream team Allan McNish, Tom Kristensen and Dindo Capello scorched the field yesterday with a fast lap of 1:43.596. That was a full half second quicker than the other Audi R15 driven by Marco Werner, Lucas Luhr and Mike Rockenfeller, and 1.406 seconds quicker than the fastest Peugeot. Acura is also joining Audi and Peugeot in the top LMP1 class this year, though its cars fielded by two private teams were another...
• Catch Truth in 24 this Friday on ESPN

Filed under: Motorsports , Audi , Peugeot The 24 hours of Le Mans is arguably the toughest, most famous race in the world. Audi has dominated the annual event since 2006 with its revolutionary, diesel powered R10. Truth in 24 ( Autoblog review here ) is the story of the 2008 race as seen from the pits of team Audi. The four-ringed automaker commissioned the visual masters at NFL Films to produce the documentary, and the resulting film is a must-see for anyone even remotely interested in racing. ESPN is airing the brilliant documentary on Friday, March 20 as a kickoff to the ALMS season. The Friday airing of Truth in 24 is the perfect precursor to the world racing debut of Audi's new R15 at the 12 Hours of Sebring the next day. This documentary has fast become one of the best racing films of all time, and it's definitely worth your time. Thanks for the tip, Horst! • Peugeot to sell rebadged Mitsubishi i MiEV in late 2010

Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative , Green , Mitsubishi , Peugeot Click above for high-res gallery of the Mitsubishi iMiEV After rumors popped up several weeks ago that Mitsubishi and Peugeot would collaborate on a French-badged version of the iMiEV electric car in Europe, both sides vehemently denied it. Those denials can now be laid to rest as Peugeot and Mitsubishi have announced that a memorandum of understanding that should lead to the introduction of a Peugeot EV by late 2010 or early 2011. The two companies have been negotiating for more than 10 months. Mitsubishi will build the cars for Peugeot and they will be sold alongside the iMiEV in the European market. The Mitsubishi version goes on sale in Japan this summer and Europe in mid-2010. Mitsubishi still hasn't decided whether to offer the car in the U.S., although several of them are currently operating in test fleets in the U.S. now. We drove the iMiEV in New York a while back, so click here to check out our driving impressions...
• Geneva 2009: Nissan Qazana is so bizarre it almost looks French

Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Nissan We're just back from checking out the Nissan Qazana, and we're happy to report that it's every bit as zany as it looks in the stock images we saw seen earlier . In fact, it almost looks Gallic, like something from Citroen or Peugeot, or perhaps something reverse-engineered from a Paris-Dakar rally special . We're not entirely sure if (and/or how) the big-fendered, narrow-greenhouse look will translate to Nissan's planned production compact crossover, and we're quite sure that the rear-hinged suicide doors won't see showrooms when the Qashqai receives a kid brother. For now, we're enjoying its novel lighting (including the pair of crazy large front driving lamps and the fender-ridge daytime-running lamps, along with well-integrated boomerang taillamps) and red-velvet cake interior. • 24 Hours of Le Mans invite list released

Filed under: Motorsports , Aston Martin , Audi , Chevrolet , Porsche , Peugeot Plenty of teams have dropped out racing series around the world this year as economic problems have caused sponsors to pull back. So far, it looks like the 24 Hours of Le Mans has managed to remain relatively immune as the Automobile Club de l'Ouest received 82 entries for the 55 openings for this years race. The top LMP1 class is set to be another battle royal with 12 factory supported entries from Audi, Peugeot and Aston Martin. Peugeot will be trying to finally win Le Mans and has increased its squad to four by entrusting one of the 908s to the Pescarolo Sport team. Audi will have three of its new R15 TDIs and two of the old R10s which will be run by the Kolles team. In the P2 field, a trio of Porsche RS Spyders with will be leading the way along with an assortment of Lolas, Zytek and Radical prototypes. In GT1, the factory Chevrolet Corvette C6R will make its final trip to Le Mans before being replaced...
