  • 2010 Jaguar XJ to debut in July, on sale in September

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Jaguar We're in the South of France getting ready to drive Jaguar's new XFR and XKR sports models, and Mike O'Driscoll, Jaguar's managing director, has just confirmed that to us that the long-awaited Jaguar XJ successor will debut this July, with sales beginning in late summer. Although details about the new XJ are still scarce, expect a thoroughly redesigned exterior that moves away from the current car's evolutionary design (shown above) by taking several cues from the new XF. Similarly, expect an all-new interior that adopts the company's Jaguar Drive transmission (recently ported over to the new XK) and an aluminum architecture that's rumored to keep the curb weight below 4,000 pounds. At launch, look for Jag's all-new naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 to makes its way under the hood, with an XJR model following sometime in 2011 packing the XFR's 510-horsepower supercharged bent-eight. 2010 Jaguar XJ to debut in July,...
  • Spy Shots: 2010 Jaguar XJ edges closer to production

Filed under: Spy Photos , Sedans/Saloons , Jaguar , UK With the new XF garnering all the attention, a new 510 horsepower XKR ripping up the streets and a new sportscar - of some sort or another - reportedly on the way, it'd be all too easy to forget about Jaguar's flagship XJ sedan. The range-topper still carries the same basic retro styling theme as it has since before Ford took over, but now that Tata's moved in upstairs, the XJ is due for an overhaul. Although it's hard to tell much from the spy shots, you can bet Jag design chief Ian Callum has a more aggressive, edgier styling similar to the XF on tap for us. Expect Jaguar's latest generation of V8s, in normally-aspirated and supercharged form to provide motivation as the big cat gets bigger to take another pounce at the likes of the BMW 7-Series and Mercedes S-Class. The new XJ is anticipated to debut later this year - Frankfurt would be a good bet - before it hits the streets for 2010. Follow the link to see the...
  • The Cat's Meow: a Jaguar painted to look like... a Jaguar

Filed under: Time Warp , Jaguar Click above to high-res image gallery of the Jaguar painted like a jaguar We like Jaguars. It's hard not to with their rich racing heritage, alluring lines and silky-smooth ride. What you see here, however, is a genuine example of taking things too far. Now we have no doubt that people have done horrible things to Jaguars over the years, but this was no mid-life paint job. What you're looking at is one of the first E-Types imported into the United States. The third one, in fact, featuring the flat floor that characterized the first 500 Series-1 examples to roll off the assembly line in 1961. Apparently, the original owner, a Jaguar dealer, was so excited to get one of the first examples that he had it airbrushed with this rather *ahem* unique theme and put it on display in his showroom to attract customers. Well, it probably garnered its fair share of attention, but we doubt many were convinced to buy a new one. Then again, as the old saying goes...
  • Detroit 2009: Faster Pussycat - Jaguar XFR pounces on Bonneville, hits 225 mph!

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Motorsports , Sedans/Saloons , Etc. , Jaguar Click above for high-res image gallery of the Jaguar XFR Bonneville car In its spare time while reinventing the company and settling in with a new owner, Jaguar's boffins somehow found time to take their new XFR to the Bonneville Salt Flats for a top speed run last November. The Paul Gentilozzi-driven XFR had been modified with the appropriate safety gear (roll cage, fire suppression system, etc.), along with a sizable low-mounted rear spoiler and a derestricted ECU that allowed the supercharger to yield around 600 horsepower thanks to a bit more boost. So-equipped, the 503-horsepower sedan blew through the double-ton to top out at 225.675 miles-per-hour, solidly trouncing the previous Jaguar land speed record of 217.1 mph set by an XJ220 at Nardo back in 1992 with Martin Brundle at the wheel. For reference, the standard XFR is electronically limited to 155 mph. Incredibly, the Bonneville run was completed...
