Filed under: Trends , Euro , Supercars , Earnings/Financials , Celebrities , Special/Limited Editions The Top Gear we know and love includes hordes of outlandishly expensive exotic and luxury cars that we could never afford. Lamborghini and Ferrari will still be represented for Series 13, but if rumors are true, the BBC boys are going to dedicate more air time to the everyday cars that the rest of us drive, and less time with costly stunts like the one seen above. Executive Producer Andy Wilman is shooting for fuel efficient, affordable transportation in light of the global recession. Series 13 was originally planning for a road trip including a Lambo and a Porsche, but instead the excursion will include more sedate transportation like the Toyota iQ. That doesn't sound very exciting, but we have faith in Top Gear to make their episodes equally entertaining... after all, we've seen what they can do with a Chevrolet Lacetti. Top Gear should grip on recessionary economics because even...

Filed under: Honda , UK , Celebrities Newsflash: Television production sounds more glamorous than it really is. Oh sure, there are some that cruise around in conspicuous rides, but most tend to drive workaday cars. It'd be natural to expect the producer of "Rinky-Dink Town Today" on Cable Access would be tooling around in something less than a Mercedes S Class, but the people that make car shows, especially the Top Gear franchise, why, that producer surely drives something outrageously fly, right? Umm... no. Andy Wilman, producer of the current Top Gear incarnation (and a presenter for the original series), is probably expected to drive something exotic or bombastic like his mates Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May - but that's not how he rolls, apparently. A Honda Jazz (that's a Fit to you, Yankee) is at least a choice that car guys can still get behind, marrying utility and economy with a measure of fun. Could Top Gear be headed for the same responsible...

Filed under: Motorsports , Celebrities It appears that Formula One's new scoring system has few friends in the pitlane. Renault's Fernando Alonso and Toyota's Jarno Trulli have already blasted it, and now reigning champ Lewis Hamilton from McLaren and former champion Michael Schumacher have similarly disparaged the new system that awards the championship to whichever driver wins the most races. Hamilton went so far as to say, "I think it's a shame what's happening to Formula 1." We should note that had the new scoring system been in place last year, Ferrari's Felipe Massa would have been the driver's champ instead of Hamilton. Schumacher said he liked the idea of making wins worth more, but couldn't imagine, "how it makes sense to eventually have a world champion who has less points than the driver coming in second." From our seat, Schumacher does have a point - a driver who collects 90 points with nine race wins and eight DNFs could beat...

Filed under: Motorsports , UK , Celebrities So, what's it take to get a wax statue of yourself at Madame Tussauds' museum in London? Exactly 300 separate measurements and an absolutely ridiculous $230,000. Oh yeah... managing to win a Formula 1 drivers championship probably helps your cause, too. Lewis Hamilton, the youngest person ever to score an F1 driving title, has now been immortalized in wax at the aforementioned museum, joining life-sized figures of fellow racers Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell and Michael Schumacher. We've always found humanoid wax statues a bit off-putting, but we're sure young Hamilton feels honored to join such legends of motorsports. Plus, it will have to suffice until he wins his third championship, at which time McLaren has promised to give him his very own F1 LM supercar. Filed under: Aftermarket , SEMA , Economy , Auction Action , SMART , Celebrities , Special/Limited Editions BatSmart from SEMA - Click above for high-res image gallery One of the most unusual vehicles to grace last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas is now up for auction on eBay Motors. Called the BatSmart , this little vehicle was unlike most of the high-octane pieces of rolling artwork at the event in that it used just three pistons and 70 horsepower to move along its twin passengers. What it loses in power, though, it makes up in style, right? Designed by George Barris himself, creator of the original Batmobile from the mid '60s, the Batsmart features a faux turbine and rocket launchers to go along with its full custom body kit, which includes the requisite rear batfins and rodent-like pointy nose. Click here to see the auction page and be sure to check out our gallery below. Thanks for the tip, Mick! Gallery: eBay Find of the Day: Batsmart Gallery: SEMA 2008: Barris BatSMART [Source...

Filed under: Car Buying , Marketing/Advertising , Lifestyle , Celebrities In dire economic times like these, everyone needs a hero, and Detroit's automakers are no exception. So, who better to anoint as a savior than the Queen of All Media herself, Oprah Winfrey? The popular talk show host/book club guru/magazine publisher/philanthropist/bazillionaire has been tapped to champion America's struggling domestic auto industry by none other than President Obama Detroit Free Press columnist Carol Cain. And why not? Winfrey has a fiercely loyal fan base and unassailable credentials as one of America's few wholly trusted celebrities. What's more, she's even got prior experience promoting the domestic auto industry, as back in 2004, she gave away a fleet of new Pontiac G6s to all 276 members of her studio audience . Alright, so nobody seems to know what Oprah drives (or more likely, what she is driven in), or whether she is really in-tune with the idea of saving the domestic...
