Filed under: Etc. , Euro , Celebrities It should come as no surprise that Jeremy Clarkson is pulling down more cash than his Top Gear cohorts. Not only does Clarkson own a stake of the show's rights, he's more of a figurehead for the series than either James May or Richard Hammond. Clarkson has become nearly an adjective to describe any auto pundit expressing a strong opinion in a certain manner. While May and Hammond seem happy enough with their slightly-diminished status in the show hierarchy, rumors about flat-out contract rejections and threats of departure are flying behind the scenes. James May's people state that they're not looking for parity with Clarkson's £2-million yearly earnings, but they are aiming for the best deal possible. Arlington Enterprises spokesperson, Annie Sweetbaum, has commented that nascent negotiations are progressing, and that the BBC's first offer is never the one accepted. Hamster's people dodged commenting, but we're...

Filed under: Motorsports , Euro , Celebrities With seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher retired from Formula One and his kid brother Ralf moving on to DTM, the racing world was just getting used to the idea of the post-Schumacher era. Racing fans, however, can look forward to the continuation of the dynasty, as Michael's nine-year-old son has taken to the track himself. Mick Schumacher got behind the wheel of an Alonso kart, ironically, for a low-level event in Spain, finishing the two races tenth and eighth, and will proceed to three more rounds in the series. The Schumachers tried their hardest to keep the young Mick out of the press limelight, entering him in the race under his mother's maiden name Betsch and accompanied at the event by his grandfather Rolf (Michael and Ralf's father), but you can bet the motorsport press will be keeping a close eye on the young Schumacher - already nicknamed Schumi III, following his father and uncle - as his career progresses. ...

Filed under: Motorsports , Euro , Motorcycles , Celebrities Michael Schumacher made an auspicious motorcycle racing debut at the Misano track in Italy on Sunday. The race was the seven-time F1 champion's first professional competition on two wheels, following last week's amateur event in Hungary . The short ten-lap event was run on 990cc KTM Super Duke motorbikes, on which Schumacher managed to qualify third and finish an impressive fourth, having dropped down to 14th and fought his way back up through the field. Schumacher was quick to assert, however, that this was a casual pursuit and not the start of a second career. Cautious reservations aside, we wouldn't be surprised to see the champ sporadically climb back onto various two-wheeled racing machines for the occasional race here or there. Filed under: Euro , Celebrities NBC has officially purchased the rights to produce an American version of Top Gear , and seeing as it has one of this country's biggest gear heads on its payroll, it's a no-brainer that they would at least ask Jay Leno to host. In his most recent editorial for The Sunday Times, Leno recounts being asked by a corporate suit with practically no clue about of the hit British show to host the American version. It goes something like this. "Well, the network has bought the TV show... um... High Gear? Top Gear? Top Gear! Top Gear, yes. We know you like to build cars." Sigh... Thankfully Leno turned down the offer, not because he's unworthy, but rather because he knows he couldn't do the show justice and because the idea of an American Top Gear is doomed from the start. Being part of the BBC, the original version is not reliant on advertising to stay on the air, so talking smack about a particular automaker and its wares is no biggie. As...

Filed under: Motorsports , Euro , Celebrities Formula 1 will hit the BBC air waves in 2009 after a long run on ITV. The move will require new figureheads to sit at the desk, and London's Times has said that Top Gear 's Richard Hammond is the top man for the job. Economics at least partially drove ITV's decision to withdraw from F1 coverage. The coverage is expensive, so making money is challenging, even with newly rising star Lewis Hamilton making F1 more interesting for UK viewers. Hammond's presence might help broaden the appeal beyond just racing fans, as would guest appearances by Jeremy Clarkson and James May, Hammond's cohorts on Top Gear . Letting Clarkson and May prowl the paddock could offer priceless moments of color commentary that would set YouTube alight. The BBC also plans to update the look, feel and pace of its coverage, and fans will be able to get at the presentation more easily with races going out across broadband digital outlets in addition to the...

Filed under: Motorsports , Euro , Government/Legal , Videos , Ford , Citroen , Celebrities It's pretty straightforward for most of us: drive above the speed limit and risk getting in trouble with the fuzz. Racing drivers usually get away with it - if only because they're on closed circuits - which makes it all the more interesting when the same fate befalls them as applies to the rest of us. Although nothing seems to have come out of Schumacher's now-famous cab-driving incident , for example, Lewis Hamilton can't drive anymore on French roads . Now, after having almost run down a police officer on his way to a record fifth consecutive victory in Monte Carlo , we've got video footage of incumbent rally champion Sebastien Loeb getting pulled over by Swedish police in his Citroen C4 rally car. In the video after the jump, you can clearly see the same ticked-off look the rest of us get while receiving a ticket. But the discernible exasperation could be more from the results...

Filed under: Minivans/MPVs , Euro , Marketing/Advertising , Renault , Celebrities click above to enlarge and see more Simpsons ads Starting this coming Saturday (Feb 9), Renault will kick off a new international ad campaign in which The Simpsons shill for the new Kangoo minivan. Three new print ads have been revealed, showing Homer & Co. making the most out of the vehicle's features. The fully-reclining seats are perfect for stealing the Christmas tree off the City Hall lawn; the seating arrangement is comfortable enough to replace the couch as the primary tv-watching location; and the overhead storage bins are ideal for hiding Homer's secret fast-food stash. The Roger Rabbit-esque campaign puts the Simpsons in our world, instead of creating an animated Kangoo for them to drive. Since we're not a Renault market, we won't be seeing these ads in our next round of buff books. No matter. You can check them out in the gallery below. [Source: Renault] Gallery: The Simpsons...

Filed under: Auction Action , Etc. , Euro , Celebrities Click the image above for more pics of the Vampire jet car Talk about a project car. For sale on eBay UK, for approved UK-only bidders, is the actual Vampire jet car crashed by Richard Hammond . The Hamster was doing nearly 300-MPH when things went pear-shaped and he ended up in a coma. It appears the owner of the car hasn't been doing so well himself, and needs to sell the Vampire, and Britain's fastest electric car, to pay for health care costs. The car, however, looks like it's been in a high-speed crash -- it's essentially a gutted, truncated fuselage and a junkyard of spares. Oh, the car doesn't come with a rollcage. It was cut off to extract Hammond and never returned. So if you'd like a heinously fast jet car that you'll need a a great deal of money to rebuild but might never be able to drive again, call a friend in the UK to place a bid for you. As of now, you'll need 18,000 pounds to join the...
