  • Tesla teases freshly delayed Model S sedan

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Geneva Motor Show , Green var digg_url = 'http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/10/23/first-teaser-shot-of-the-tesla-model-s-appears/'; BusinessWeek has a story about last week's trials and tribulations at Tesla Motors, which wraps up most of what we already know, along with some new details. The investment bankers called up Tesla chairman Elon Musk to let him know that the company's IPO plans weren't going to fly in the current financial markets. Musk and the management team reacted quickly by slashing 25% of the company's workforce, shutting down the Rochester Hills, MI engineering office and pretty much halting all non-revenue producing work. That meant the much anticipated Model S sedan was put on the back burner until more cash was flowing into the coffers. Now, the four-door electric sport sedan won't be going into production until at least 2011. Tesla SVP Darryl Siry tipped us off that the story was being published tonight and...
  • BREAKING: 2009 Infiniti FX makes after hours debut in Geneva

Filed under: Geneva Motor Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti Click above image for a high-res gallery of the unveiling of the 2009 FX from Geneva Last week we showed you a teaser shot of the headlight of the all-new 2009 Infiniti FX . Tonight in Geneva we saw the whole thing. Carlos Ghosn himself introduced the new FX at a club-like venue just down the road from the Palexpo. Accompanied by some choreographed theatrics, the new FX dropped from the ceiling and landed front and center ahead of its EX37 and G37 siblings, which will join it in the new Infiniti dealerships starting up in Europe this year. The redesigned 2009 FX will come in three different flavors, topping out with the FX50 we saw here. As the name tells us, it features a new 5.0L V8, said to be good for 390HP and more than 500nM of torque. Fairly stout numbers compared to the outgoing 4.5. The 2009 FX should start appearing at North American Infiniti dealers by June. You can read about the rest of the changes to this fairly highly...
  • Geneva 2008: Audi R8 V12 TDI Le Mans - a mouthful for a mouthwatering car

Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Supercars , Audi Click image above for high-res shots of the R8 V12 TDI Le Mans We just got our first glimpse of the newest AudiR8 concept and we are breathless. Most of that is due to digging ourselves out of the scrum that resulted when the press conference concluded and we found ourselves in a crush of humanity that made us momentarily consider knocking down a few pushy folks around us. Gladly, the thought passed quickly and so did the crowd. What we have for you now is a cluster of pics of this tasty turbodiesel treat. When we told you about this car yesterday, we expected it to be much like the silvery version we saw in Detroit. That was mostly true. This version, finished in Brilliant Red is called the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans to play on Audi's participation in dominance of that legendary endurance race in recent years. It features the same 6.0L V12 pumping out 500 horsepower and prodigious torque, enough in fact (737 lb-ft) to be among...
  • Geneva 2008: Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 live and drool-worthy

Filed under: Geneva Motor Show , Supercars , Lamborghini Click above for a high-res gallery of the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. After circumnavigating the whole of the Geneva expo center, a strange force drew us to a minimalistic booth on the west side of the complex. There, we were afforded our first live glimpse of Lamborghini's newest exotica, the Gallardo LP560-4. As its name implies, the gussied-up Gallardo is sporting 560 hp from its new, direct-injected 5.2-liter V10. Hacking off 20 kilos from the curb weight allows the LP560-4 to rocket to 62 mph in 3.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 201 mph, all the while increasing fuel efficiency and reducing CO2 emissions by some 18-percent. All the official details are available after the jump and we've assembled a high-res gallery of live and press images below. • RED MENACE: Audi R8 TDI Le Mans infiltrates Geneva

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Supercars , Audi Click image for a hi-res gallery of the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans The Audi R8 V12 TDI concept that made such a splash in Detroit has a fraternal twin, and it's headed to Geneva. Finished in Brilliant Red paint and dubbed the R8 TDI Le Mans -- the association with the fabled endurance race carries a lot more weight on the Continent -- the car arrives in Geneva with the same impressive spec sheet as its silver counterpart. A 6.0L V12 TDI is crammed in the space behind the R8's passenger compartment. It packs a bit of a punch, too -- 500 horsepower and enough torque (737 lb-ft) to alter the earth's rotation allow for a 0-62 mph time of just 4.2 seconds and a 186 mph top end. That's Euro 6-compliant power, too. Clean and mean -- emphasis on the mean. We'll have live shots of it for you tomorrow. • BREAKING: Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 first official pics!

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Supercars , Lamborghini Click image for a hi-res gallery of the Lamborghini LP560-4 var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/BREAKING_Lamborghini_LP560_4_official_pics'; We just detailed the changes made to the Lamborghini Gallardo as it evolves into the spectacular LP560-4. And while the name might not be exciting, the car sure is. New front and rear fascias, as detailed here , give the "baby" Lambo a menacing new look that's backed up by an upgraded 5.2L V10 that reportedly dishes out 560 PS/ 552 HP while tipping the scales at 44 lbs. less than the Gallardo. That's what fast is made of. UPDATE: For those of you who want to compare the LP560-4 to the the pre-facelift bodystyle, here's a gallery of the current Gallardo Superleggera . • Geneva '08 Preview: Lotus goes <i>tri</i>-fuel with Exige 270E

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrids/Alternative , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Green , Lotus Click above for a high-res gallery of the Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel While assorted activists, politicians and random individuals carry on about the spectres of global warming, imported oil, CO 2 emissions and other issues that combine to create timetable-free doomsday scenarios, there are people working on potential solutions that do not involve us driving around four-wheeled Segway scooters. That's right: the "dreaded" internal combustion engine might yet provide the answer -- or at least an answer. And because Lotus is the entity searching for the answer in this particular case, the end result might not only be green -- it looks ridiculously fun, too. The car you see here is the Geneva-bound Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel concept, the successor to 2006's Exige 265E , which made 265 horses running on E85. The 270E goes a step further. Not only can it run on gasoline or ethanol...
  • Geneva '08 Preview: Saab 9-X BioHybrid Concept

Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Green , Hatchbacks , Saab Click above for a high-res gallery of the Saab 9-X BioHybrid var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Saab_9_X_BioHybrid_concept_ethanol_hybrid_solar_and_aero'; Saab is showing off its latest addition at the Geneva Motor Show today by adding a smaller model at the entry point to its lineup. The new Saab 9-X BioHybrid is strictly a concept at this stage, but it will almost certainly pop up in Saab showrooms before long. The 9-X is built on General Motors' next generation Global Compact Car platform (a.k.a. Delta). That's the platform that underpins cars like the Opel Astra, Chevy Cobalt and, in the future, the Chevy Volt. Given the size, the 9-X will probably become the 9-1 when it hits the streets. Like other recent Saab concepts, this one carries forth much of the same design language, particularly in the nose and fenders. In profile, it's apparent that the windshield has a much more pronounced wraparound...
  • Geneva '08 Preview: Land Rover LRX puts on a tux, looks sharp

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrids/Alternative , SUVs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Land Rover Click image for a hi-res gallery of the Black & Silver Land Rover LRX And here we thought it looked good in white . Land Rover is quick to remind that the LRX is "just a concept," but it's sending a pretty strong message in Geneva, where a second , black-and-silver LRX will join the original white truck that premiered in Detroit . And the new one is even hotter than the original, itself one of the best concepts of the last year. It's supposed to demonstrate how a (potential) production LRX could be personalized, and we would like to have one delivered to our personal garage approximately yesterday. The rakish shape now features a silver roof fitted with side rails and a removable carbon-composite panel. This beautifully contrasts the black primary finish, and aluminum-accented details do their part to further dress up the exterior. As a subtle reminder to onlookers that this...
  • Geneva '08 Preview: VW Golf TDI Hybrid hits the web

Filed under: Economy , Hybrids/Alternative , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Green , Hatchbacks , Volkswagen Click image for a gallery of the Golf TDI Hybrid Auto Bild has decided to "help" Volkswagen introduce the VW Golf TDI Hybrid that the automaker will be unveiling in Geneva a few days from now. So, how does it look? Pretty impressive. The car mates a 75 PS (74 HP) 3-cylinder TDI, a 27 horsepower electric motor and a 7-speed DSG to average 69 mpg (3.4l/100km) in the European Cycle with carbon dioxide emissions of just 90 g/km. The electric motor is powered by a trunk-mounted NiMH battery. The Golf TDI Hybrid is indeed a full hybrid, so it can run on electric power, diesel power or a combination of the two. It also uses regenerative braking, a stop/start system, and one of those energy monitor videogame screens that gives you a graphical representation of the powertrain's activity. Visually, the car sports a new Vivid Blue finish and employs narrower grillework, a lowered suspension...
  • Geneva 2008: 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco arrives early

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Hatchbacks , Volkswagen Click above for more high-res shots of the 2009 VW Scirocco var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/2009_Volkswagen_Scirocco_arrives_ahead_of_Geneva_Motor_Show'; We can't follow where this particular embargo break began, but a pair of official embargoed images of the production 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco scheduled to be unveiled next week at the Geneva Motor Show has hit the interweb. As you can see, the Scirocco's design has changed dramatically from its days on the auto show circuit as the IROC Concept . Gone is the face only a Pokemon master could love, replaced with something more appropriate for public consumption. In fact, the Scirocco will be the first VW we've seen in a while without the double-decker grille treatment. Instead, a slim grille connects its headlamps that are set atop a wide swath of body colored molding before we get to the large lower air intake that also houses turn signals and...
  • Pics Aplenty: Mitsubishi Prototype S

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Hatchbacks , Mitsubishi Click for more hi-res images of the Mitsubishi Prototype S Autobild spilled the beans over the weekend, and today, Mitsubishi lifted the embargo on its Geneva-bound Prototype S, which is basically the forthcoming Lancer Sportback in light concept trim. Beneath the hatchback's skin lies the powertrain used in in the new US-market Lancer Ralliart -- 240 horses, dual-clutch, full-time AWD, and active center differential. It's anyone's guess whether Mitsubishi will elect to offer it outside Europe, where the body style is sure to be a bread-and-butter seller. We certainly wouldn't turn it away, though; there's always room for more hatchbacks with "go." Check out the new high-res shots in the attached gallery, and Mitsu's official release after the jump. • Geneva '08 Preview: John Cooper Works MINI and Clubman

Filed under: Geneva Motor Show , Hatchbacks , MINI Click image for more hi-res pics of the John Cooper Works MINIs Hitting the bull's-eye for enthusiasts, BMW's MINI brand is launching two hot new models next month at the Geneva Auto Show. Loaded with performance upgrades and new interior appointments, each race-bred model serves as the basis for the MINI CHALLENGE 2008 race car. Based on the three-door MINI and the five-door MINI Clubman, the heart of each model is a turbocharged 1.6-liter 4-cylinder massaged to 207 hp. Pedal to the floor, it should be good for a sprint to 60 mph in just under 6.5 seconds (the MINI Clubman, a bit heavier than the three-door, is a few tenths slower). Unique light alloy wheels, a new performance exhaust system, upgraded suspension, and a modified 6-speed manual transmission are just some of the mechanical upgrades. Aesthetically, the John Cooper Works models will be differentiated by their distinctive body kits and unique interiors. With a base price...
  • Spy Shots: Lamborghini LP550 gets ready for its debut

Filed under: Spy Photos , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Supercars , Lamborghini Click image for a gallery of the LP550 spy shots Last week, Inside Line reported that Lamborghini would use the Geneva Motor Show to unveil a facelifted, juiced-up Gallardo that would take a new name: LP550 . Now, Brenda Priddy's spies have caught the updated Lambo covered head-to-toe in black tape. That's OK, though, because the car's updated details remain visible, and you can now get an idea of what's in store for Geneva. In front, the two primary intakes retain their shape, but the front air dam itself is now much deeper and more pronounced, with a pair of new struts hanging down and framing what appears to be a third, central intake below the front bumper. New vents also adorn the leading edges of the front wheel wells. Out back, a new rear fascia incorporates reshaped (thinner) grillework for engine heat dissipation, as well as rehaped openings for the exhausts, which now use double...
  • Geneva '08 Preview: Mitsubishi Prototype S unmasked!

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Hatchbacks , Mitsubishi Click image for a gallery of the Prototype S German pub Autobild has spilled the beans on the Geneva-bound Mitsubishi Prototype S. The "S" is for Sportback, and this show car forecasts a future production vehicle that will probably carry that moniker. The Sportback is crucial for the European market, where hatches account for the majority of car sales. Up front, you essentially have the Lancer Ralliart's nose, which is dressed up with more ornate, concept-style headlamps and foglights. Head around to the car's rump, and you can almost see Mitsu's people drawing a line in the sand, daring the 5-door WRX to come over and "play." The sloping rear hatch is topped by a large, body-colored roof spoiler, and restyled rear lighting wraps from the lid onto the quarter panels. Dual exhaust tips poke through a diffuser insert on the rear bumper, and stylish split-spoke wheels...
