Filed under: Ford Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Ford Mustang badge The countdown to the 2010 Ford Mustang debut has begun, and it looks like Ford can't wait to show us what the car looks like just as much as we can't wait to see it. Today it released an image of the new 2010 Mustang badge, hinting that its edgier design gives clues as to what the rest of the car will look like. Ford says its designers spent hours researching photographs of horses to give the new Mustang logo a more realistic feel, and we think it paid off. The new pony looks more defined and muscular, and it even got a cool new haircut! We've been anxiously waiting to see what direction Ford will take the retro design of the new Mustang, and if the logo is anything to go by then we shouldn't be worried. Let us know what you think about the new design with your comments and vote for which you like most in the poll below. Gallery: 2010 Ford Mustang Badge View Poll [Source: Ford] Continue reading...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Sedans/Saloons , Ford Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Ford Fusion spy shots Our spy photographers have caught the 2010 Ford Fusion wearing nothing but an ugly paint job, which means we get a crystal clear view at what Ford has in store for its midsize sedan. While things between the wheel wells appear to carryover, the front end is getting big a big makeover. The Fusion's new face features a larger three-bar chrome grille and a complete re-sculpting of its lower air intake. Gone are the two chrome bars in the lower grille and the fog lights that flanked them. In their place is a more traditional central lower air intake and new, larger foglamps the mimic the shape of the new headlights. The Fusion's new mug definitely appears more aggressive than the non-threatening visage worn by the current model, and we like it. The sedan's rear taillights are also being changed, though they're covered too well in these spy shots to see what those changes...

Filed under: Ford , Lifestyle , Celebrities Click above to view live pics at ShadowyFlight.com var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/television/KITT_s_new_Attack_Mode_revealed_at_Comic_Con_2'; NBC is unveiling the new Attack Mode for KITT today at the very large Comic Con convention in San Diego. ShadowyFlight.com is covering the reveal of the car live in its forums, but this image has already made its way on the web and confirms that KITT has had his wings sheared. Gone are the various spoilers that cluttered the first version and what remains is a cleaner car with dual side exhausts, a deep chin spoiler that looks pretty heavy duty, an equally strong looking mesh grille, what appears to be rocket launchers where a shaker scoop would go, a still-very-big rear wing, rear air diffuser and new spokeless wheels that were stolen right off of a Bonneville Salt Flats racer. The rear tires are extremely oversized and still manage to poke out from the newly flared fenders. Is it better than the...

Filed under: Trucks/Pickups , Ford According to sources speaking with Pickuptrucks.com, Ford is considering offering an EcoBoost four-cylinder engine on its F-150 pickup in 2013. The boosted mill is expected to displace around 2.5-liters, produce 260 hp and 300 lb.-ft. of torque, and would only be available on the two-door Regular Cab F-150 4x2 and 4x4. Ford's rationale for equipping its workaday pickup with a turbo'd four is partially due to the rising cost of gasoline, but is primarily fueled by new CAFE regulations that will require light trucks to average 28.6 mpg by 2015. Ford has already decided to drop its 4.2-liter V6 for the 2009 model year, only offering the 4.6-liter V8, which produces more power and more torque, while still offering similar fuel economy. The EcoBoost range of engines are likely to find their way into several different models across Ford's line up, and according to Ford's director of powertrain research, Dan Kapp, EcoBoost engines could allow...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Euro , Hatchbacks , Ford , Misc. Auto Shows Click above for a high-res gallery of the new Focus RS Yesterday brought the sneak peek, but today we've got the real deal. The new Ford Focus RS is is mean and green (we mean that in the literal sense, thanks to its killer-looking paint color), and it will make its debut at this month's London Motor Show. While the RS is still under development, the car being put on display isn't exactly a concept, either. Some details might change here and there before it reaches showrooms in 2009, but ultimately, what you see here is what European drivers are going to get. The wide, low-slung stance, intimidating fascia, racy dual exhaust, and requisite high-mount spoiler are all part of the package. Filed under: Sports/GTs , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Ford , Australia , FPV Click above for photo gallery. Follow the jump for the video. Ford Performance Vehicles' new range of Ford FG Falcon-derived super sedans and utes is mind-bendingly appealing. Big turbocharged or NA power, bright colors, and that menacing Alice Cooper eye makeup in front make for an entire farmer's market of forbidden fruit. Sure, on this side of the world, Ford's SVT performance division gives us the Shelby GT500 and the even more monstrous Shelby GT500KR -- but seriously, as hot as the factory super-Stangs are, the lineup of FPV rides you see above is hot enough to turn that desert sand into glass. Only, they can't -- because everything you see there is virtual. Both the backdrop and the cars are CGI. The photo-realistic vehicle models were created using the real cars' CAD data for a brand new FPV TV spot that premieres in Australia this Sunday. If you don't live in Oz, no worries...

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Green , Ford Doug Pelmar's 1987 Ford Mustang LX Coupe might have just become our favorite X-Prize competitor. How come? Well, first off, LX Coupes are awesome to begin with, but Mr. Pelmar's is even more special. Rather than neuter his 'Stang in the name of high efficiency, he's gone and created something that should contend in the X-Prize's "Mainstream" category, but would also be right at home on the pages of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords . The car's engine runs on E85 for emissions purposes and has several modifications that Mr. Pelmar designed (mostly electronics, it seems) allowing it to run much more efficiently -- to the tune of 80 miles per gallon -- while producing 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. He admits that he could squeeze more MPGs out if he dialed back the power some, but where's the fun in that? 80 MPG and 400 horses in a Fox body seems like a completely reasonable compromise to us. Oh, and...

Filed under: Etc. , Ford , GM Of all the preposterous ideas floated around this, the new automotive landscape, none seem as ridiculous as Ford and General Motors merging together to create a singular domestic monolith. But according to a BusinessWeek source, the idea was recently floated by execs during a meeting of the General's generals... and then shot down moments later. While we wouldn't describe this as a close call, the fact that it was even mentioned speaks volumes about the dire straits Detroit's Big 3 (or 2.8, if you prefer) are in. Between plummeting sales, increased material costs, high fuel prices and union woes, both automakers are facing seemingly insurmountable challenges. But creating a $350 billion bloated corporate entity with excess production capacity, weak brands and more cannibalizing product overlap than has ever been seen, there's no doubt that it would be suicide for all involved. Not to mention the fact that the amount of resources necessary to...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Ford Mustang spy shots Can you believe we've assembled five galleries so far of 2010 Ford Mustang spy shots? This is our sixth, and the pics contained show the pony car's derriere largely uncovered. Spy photographers caught the convertible with its pants down just long enough to capture an uncluttered view of the Mustang's new taillights. They contain three large vertical rectangular elements separated by two long, thin white elements. Modern Mustang taillights have always incorporated "threes", which harkens back to the original Mustang that first sported three long taillights per side. We also learn from these spy pics that the Mustang 'vert will be dropping its raised spoiler in favor of a decklid spoiler that's more integrated with the rear trunk lid rather than sitting above it. Finally, the large, round rear Mustang badge that's notched on current models...

Filed under: Trucks/Pickups , Ford 2004 SVT Lightning Concept It's been several years since Ford last offered a Lightning version of its F-150 pickup truck but it looks like it will soon strike again. In spite of plummeting sales of big trucks, a high-performance variant of the new 2009 F-150 will launch later this fall, likely at either SEMA or the Los Angeles Auto Show. Ford showed a concept version of an SVT F-150 in 2004 that never made it to production. In March 2007 , SVT's Jamal Hameedi told us that a high-performance truck was under development. While participating in the Ford Racing Invitational media drag racing event this weekend, SVT declined to get any more specific than "a new SVT truck is coming" and "later this fall." When pressed, he did acknowledge that it's based on the big truck platform and that is was unrelated to the so-called Raptor truck. An obvious guess would be an F-150 powered by the GT500 engine. Since the GT500 already uses...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Ford KGP photographers have caught another 2010 Shelby GT500 prototype just days after shooting the first one , but this time the prototype on display gave up much more info to the spy lens. In the gallery of 10 spy shots below, we can see a much clearer view of the next GT500's front fascia, including copious amounts of mesh for the grilles, as well as a pair of inboard, pie-shaped lights mounted on each side of the main grille. KGP spies also noticed that the wheels worn by this prototype sporting five split-spokes are new, and that the rear rubber appeared noticeably wider than the front. This car also sported a roll cage, which doesn't necessarily tell us anything, but the seats are some serious performance thrones from Sparco . Unfortunately, there's no telling from spy shots whether Ford is planning on using these Sparco EVO2 seats on the production model. Click the gallery below to check all the new shots and...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Ford Mustang interior spy shots Hot on the heels of our own reader-submitted spy shots of the 2010 Ford Mustang comes this new batch of images taken by professionals. Here we see for the first time the next Mustang's redesigned interior, and while it doesn't appear that the instrument panel and dash will stray too far from the current car's design, there are many notable differences. First and foremost is the new three-spoke steering wheel with redundant controls for cruise control on the left and multimedia buttons, no doubt designed to help operate Ford's SYNC system, on the right. Spy photographers also noticed that while the gauges look the same as those in the current Mustang, they are now white-faced and the speedometer and tachometer have switched places. We can also make out new rectangular vents sitting atop the center stack, though a familiar round vent remains to the...

Filed under: Economy , Euro , Hatchbacks , Ford , UK The Ford Ka has been a prime example that the Blue Oval can be successful at making little cars, even if they kind of look like basketball shoes . After 12 years of service, it's time to shake things up a bit. The next Ka shares mechanicals with the stylish Fiat 500, and after scoping the first unofficial pics from Auto Express, the Ford will be just as cute as its Italian sibling. Designers did manage to heavily differentiate the Ka from the 500, skipping the rounded lines in favor of edgier lines and details that reinforce Ford of Europe's styling language. Think micro- Fiesta , and you've got the picture. Since it's for European consumption, it'll have no less than three powertrains from the get-go, with a 68 hp 1.2L, a 100 hp 1.4L, and a 1.3L, 50 mpg diesel. Rumor has it that a hotter Ka ST is on its way as well, with 150 hp coming from a turbocharged 1.4L engine. Interior refinement over the outgoing model comes...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Sedans/Saloons , Ford Click above for high-res gallery for redesigned Ford Fusion spy shots We've known for some time that the Ford Fusion was due for a mid-cycle refreshening soon, but new spy shots from KGP Photography reveal that more might be in store for Ford's successful mid-size family sedan. Previous spy shots have shown prototype Fusions wearing impenetrable front bras that completely obscured any design changes, but these new pics reveal what's been hiding underneath. This prototype features the current car's hood and "squircle" headlights, but sports a different grille style and front bumper. The Fusion's trademark three-bar grille looks like it will become more expressive in the next version, with the top bar bowed down slightly in the middle like a smile. We imagine the production version will have all three bars bowed to some degree, giving the Ford sedan a distinctly happy and swooped back face. The front bumper, meanwhile...

Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative , Ford , Police/Emergency Click above for a high-res gallery of the lifeguard Escapes The Los Angeles County Lifeguards (cue the Baywatch theme and visions of Pamela and the shirtless Hoff ) are getting new rides. A fleet of customized 4WD Ford Escape Hybrids is replacing the group's current pickup trucks , and the first ten (of a total 45) have been delivered. Changes made to the Escapes for lifeguard duty include the replacement of the center console with a radio rack and the removal of the 60% side of the 60/40 split rear seat. In its place is a storage unit for emergency equipment. The lifeguards' Escapes are also fitted with heavy-duty rubber mats and are literally topped off with a custom roof rack. All are finished in the signature yellow paint, which is further accented with special graphics and dark wheels. It's a pretty spiffy-looking package overall, and the hybrid part of the equation surely appeals to many in the Golden State. You...
