Filed under: LA Auto Show , Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford Click above for high-res gallery of the 2010 Ford Mustang When the 2005 Ford Mustang debuted, it thoroughly reinvigorated the pony car segment that it created four decades earlier. After 25 years of being assembled on the archaic rear-wheel-drive Fox platform, the Mustang finally had an all-new platform and styling that hearkened back to the late 1960s. Known as the S197, this Mustang appeared at a time when it was in fact the only surviving member of the muscle car class. The Camaro and Firebird had been cancelled two years earlier and Chrysler had been out of the rear-wheel-drive sport coupe market since the 1970s. The Mustang's enormous success inspired Chevrolet and Dodge to create their own retro-styled muscle cars in the form of the new Camaro and Challenger. Fortunately for Mustang fans, Ford has not been sitting idle, and even while it was creating all those special edition Mustangs over the past few years...

Yesterday, it was Tomica's 2010 Nissan Cube on eBay. Today we get the new 2010 Ford Mustang GT in the form of a Hot Wheels prototype, again on eBay. Filed under: LA Auto Show , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford Click above for gallery of 2010 Ford Mustang teaser photos We now have just four weeks until the 2010 Ford Mustang is completely unveiled at the LA Auto Show , and to make everyone that much more impatient, Ford has continued its agonizing tease with this newest photo that shows a portion of the hood. The image confirms the cowl design shown by the spied 2010 Mustang hood we reported on earlier in the year. There's still no official word on whether the new hood design is functional or just for looks, but we did notice that Ford tagged the image file as "powerdome". Perhaps just a name, but we're hoping it's a sign that Ford has given its pony car a boost in power that won't leave Mustang owners too jealous of the Camaro's 400 horsepower. Filed under: Spy Photos , Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford Click either image for high-res spy shots of the 2010 Ford Mustang If you frequent every car blog on a daily basis, then you've probably seen these latest spy shots of the 2010 Ford Mustang in base V6 and GT500 trim, as well as completely uncovered views of the interior. We're acutely aware, however, that some of you rely solely on Autoblog for your daily fix. Therefore, we're bringing you these three sets of spy shots now, despite the fact they've been on the web for a week. We apologize for the delay, but some back-of-the-house complications kept us from publishing them sooner. Regardless, it's totally apparent that Ford wants everyone to see these spy shots considering how naked these prototypes are. The batch of shots showing a blue, base V6 model gives the best view of the Mustang's redesigned front end, including the newly shaped grille, new headlights, hood and lower bumper. The two new interior...

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Green , Ford Doug Pelmar's 1987 Ford Mustang LX Coupe might have just become our favorite X-Prize competitor. How come? Well, first off, LX Coupes are awesome to begin with, but Mr. Pelmar's is even more special. Rather than neuter his 'Stang in the name of high efficiency, he's gone and created something that should contend in the X-Prize's "Mainstream" category, but would also be right at home on the pages of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords . The car's engine runs on E85 for emissions purposes and has several modifications that Mr. Pelmar designed (mostly electronics, it seems) allowing it to run much more efficiently -- to the tune of 80 miles per gallon -- while producing 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque. He admits that he could squeeze more MPGs out if he dialed back the power some, but where's the fun in that? 80 MPG and 400 horses in a Fox body seems like a completely reasonable compromise to us. Oh, and...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Ford Mustang spy shots Can you believe we've assembled five galleries so far of 2010 Ford Mustang spy shots? This is our sixth, and the pics contained show the pony car's derriere largely uncovered. Spy photographers caught the convertible with its pants down just long enough to capture an uncluttered view of the Mustang's new taillights. They contain three large vertical rectangular elements separated by two long, thin white elements. Modern Mustang taillights have always incorporated "threes", which harkens back to the original Mustang that first sported three long taillights per side. We also learn from these spy pics that the Mustang 'vert will be dropping its raised spoiler in favor of a decklid spoiler that's more integrated with the rear trunk lid rather than sitting above it. Finally, the large, round rear Mustang badge that's notched on current models...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Ford KGP photographers have caught another 2010 Shelby GT500 prototype just days after shooting the first one , but this time the prototype on display gave up much more info to the spy lens. In the gallery of 10 spy shots below, we can see a much clearer view of the next GT500's front fascia, including copious amounts of mesh for the grilles, as well as a pair of inboard, pie-shaped lights mounted on each side of the main grille. KGP spies also noticed that the wheels worn by this prototype sporting five split-spokes are new, and that the rear rubber appeared noticeably wider than the front. This car also sported a roll cage, which doesn't necessarily tell us anything, but the seats are some serious performance thrones from Sparco . Unfortunately, there's no telling from spy shots whether Ford is planning on using these Sparco EVO2 seats on the production model. Click the gallery below to check all the new shots and...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Ford Mustang interior spy shots Hot on the heels of our own reader-submitted spy shots of the 2010 Ford Mustang comes this new batch of images taken by professionals. Here we see for the first time the next Mustang's redesigned interior, and while it doesn't appear that the instrument panel and dash will stray too far from the current car's design, there are many notable differences. First and foremost is the new three-spoke steering wheel with redundant controls for cruise control on the left and multimedia buttons, no doubt designed to help operate Ford's SYNC system, on the right. Spy photographers also noticed that while the gauges look the same as those in the current Mustang, they are now white-faced and the speedometer and tachometer have switched places. We can also make out new rectangular vents sitting atop the center stack, though a familiar round vent remains to the...

Filed under: Coupes , Ford Click above for high-res gallery of 2009 Ford Focus Coupe We do not consider ourselves experts on the buying habits of small car shoppers anymore, not after watching the redesigned 2008 Ford Focus streak to extremely strong sales despite sporting what we considered to be deal breaker bad looks. You can credit the car's success to good marketing, exclusive availability of SYNC, a big car ride with small car fuel economy, whatever... regardless, the Focus is selling better than it has since the car first debuted in 2000. Ford has heard all the criticism thrown at the 2008 Focus for its electric shaver looks, and in a very unusual move has solicited feedback from Focus fans and tweaked only the Coupe for 2009 and not the Sedan. The newish 2009 Focus Coupe features a front end with a larger lower air intake that's supposedly inspired by the new Fiesta, and those garish faux fender vents are now completely gone (hopefully the sedan gets stripped of these, too...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Coupes , Economy , Hybrids/Alternative , Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Trucks/Pickups , Dodge , Ford , Mitsubishi Click image for a look at the other model debuts by the NYT The Old Grey Lady has officially kicked off the Detroit Auto Show 24 hours early, and they brought some party favors for all their readers to boot. The New York Times' Automobiles section has a Detroit preview article (dated 1/13, incidentally) in its feature spot. No longer under wraps are the 2009 Dodge Ram, 2009 Ford F-150 Platinum, Mitsubishi Concept-RA, Ford Verve sedan concept, and the Fisker plug-in luxo-hybrid, as all are featured prominently in the piece's accompanying new vehicle gallery. The biggest fish in the tank are the two full-size trucks. While Chrysler inadvertently gave us a sneak preview of the Ram last month, Ford has kept the new F-150 well under wraps until now. The model pictured is the tip-top-of-the line F-150 Platinum, in case you were wondering. As...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Ford click above for more spy shots of the 2010 Ford Mustang GT Spy photographers may have lost a money-maker when Bob Lutz decreed that all Camaro prototypes must be stripped of their camouflage , but don't worry about these optical argonauts just yet because Ford is still trying to keep a lid on its refreshed 2010 Ford Mustang. Apparently, however, the automaker isn't doing that well a job, as Brenda Priddy & Co. has snapped new shots of a heavily camouflaged blue Mustang GT prototype on city streets. As we reported earlier, the 2010 Mustang GT will get front and rear fascias to help it compete with the upcoming Camaro and Dodge Challenger. We have a close up of the Mustang's new nose now in which the new headlights and some of the grille and lower air intakes are visible. Despite Ford's best attempt to keep the new Mustang a secret, we have little doubt that spy photographers will catch it sans camo sometime soon. [Photos...

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Etc. , Supercars , Ford The rumor that K.I.T.T. will be played by a Mustang in the upcoming Knight Rider TV series appears to be true. That is, assuming someone with a lot of time on his hands didn't mock up a Hoff-ified Mustang just for the hell of it. That's extremely doubtful, as the car you see above is actually wearing the body kit of a Shelby GT500KR , which isn't easy to come by for weekend projects. Nope, if we take the pic at face value, then the only conclusion possible is that K.I.T.T. will be played by a 550-horsepower Shelby GT500KR in black with silver racing stripes. K.I.T.T.'s trademark running red light bar has been relocated up and into two nostrils that sit atop the GT500KR's hood. It's a natural fit, though we have to question the silver stripes that, while a trademark of the GT500KR, are totally harshing on K.I.T.T.'s blacked-out super stealth persona. General Motors is probably a bit bummed that one of...

Filed under: LA Auto Show , Coupes , Ford click above image for high-res gallery of the 2008 Mustang Bullitt var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/motorsport/Ford_officially_unveils_2008_Bullitt_Mustang_pics'; The latest edition of everyone's favorite green Mustang is back and this one won't be featured on AutoblogGreen. Just in time for the 40th anniversary of one of the quintessential cinematic car chases, the 2008 Mustang Bullitt is coming to a Ford showroom near you. As expected, the new Bullitt is available in the Highland Green of Steve McQueen's original, but it can also be had in black. The goal according to Mustang design chief Doug Gaffka was to provide a more restrained alternative to some of the more flamboyant 'Stangs while providing great overall performance. On the outside, the Bullitt is the first of the current generation of S197 Mustangs to be devoid of a pony badge anywhere on the car. The plain black grille is encircled by a simple chrome trim ring. The 18" Bullitt wheels...
