Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Coupes , Dodge click above for 89 high-res pics of the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 Just over two years after debuting as a concept at the 2006 Detroit Auto Show, the Dodge Challenger is now ready to hit the streets for real. The Challenger is reviving a name last used in the late '70s and early '80s on a compact, four-cylinder Mitsubishi-built coupe. This time, though, Chrysler is going back to the roots of the brand with a big muscular rear-wheel-drive coupe, initially available exclusively with a 6.1L HEMI V8 that will power the new Challenger 60 mph in the low 5-second range, according to a very conservative Chrysler. It shares the automaker's LX platform with the Charger and Chrysler 300, and in final form, the car has changed remarkably little from the concept. The most noticeable differences are up front and include the loss of the cross-hair grille and a slim black air dam at the bottom of the bumper. Other changes are pretty subtle, such...

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Chevrolet click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Chevy Traverse Let's cut right to the chase. Everything about the 2009 Chevy Traverse that will be unveiled later today in Chicago is stuff we pretty much already know. As the fourth Lambda-platform crossover from General Motors, the basics have been introduced already in the GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook and Buick Enclave. The Traverse is a roomy seven (or eight)-passenger crossover with a well-organized cockpit, whose details differ only slightly from its platform sibs. That's been GM's M.O. thus far, so why should the Traverse be any different? Power, like the other Lambdas, comes from the 3.6L V6, which makes 281 or 286 horsepower in the Bowtie version depending on whether the vehicle is equipped with a single or dual exhaust. GM promises "best in class" fuel economy (final numbers are still TBD), but our experience with the other Lambdas has been that they average...

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Minivans/MPVs , Volkswagen Click above for high-res gallery of the Volkswagen Routan. var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Volkswagen_unveils_new_minivan_Snoozing_ensues'; Well, thanks to the German pub Autobild you can now see the collaborative efforts of Chrysler and Volkswagen in the form of the VW Routan. Unfortunately, the V-Dub van hardly harkens back to the time of the mini-bus, as everything between the A- and D-pillar is a dead ringer for the Chrysler/Dodge on which it's built. The new front fascia is attractive enough, with swooping headlamps, well-proportioned air dams and a chrome grille fitted with the VW logo, while the rear benefits from a similar tail lamp design as seen on the Touareg and Golf. Power comes courtesy of a 3.6-liter V6, with 197 hp and 230 lb.-ft. of torque routed through a six-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can upgrade what's under the hood with a 4.0-liter V6 producing 251 hp and 259 lb.-ft. of torque...

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Concept Cars , Trucks/Pickups Click on the Denali XT for a high-res gallery Another embargo bites the dust, but at least it made it this far. Read on for all the details on the GMC Denali XT Concept. Ever since it became know that the GM would be bringing the Pontiac G8 to the US market from Australia, fans of the old El Camino have been salivating for them to bring over the Holden "Ute" as well. For the uninitiated, the Australians use the term "Ute" to describe utility vehicles which are car based pickup trucks. Both Holden and Ford offer Utes based on their rear-wheel-drive passenger car platforms. Camino fans can now relax because the first US iteration is arriving in Chicago this week and it's got some interesting twists. The GMC Denali XT concept is based on the Holden Crewman which is a four door variant of the Commodore with a pickup truck bed on the back. While this layout is nothing new to our friends Down Under, what is...

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Trucks/Pickups , Suzuki click above image to enlarge After this rendering of the Suzuki Equator pickup was published a bit early in the March/April issue of Truck Trend magazine and then scanned and published all over the internet, Suzuki decided it might as well let the public have a good luck at the truck instead of staring at a crappy scan. Thus, it has released the official rendering of the Equator we showed you yesterday. Based on the Frontier and to be built at the same factor, the Equator will likely cost a little less that its sibling from Nissan when it goes on sale in the U.S. We'll have to wait until next week when we're reporting from the 2008 Chicago Auto Show to bring you more details. But for now, click the pic above to enlarge. [Source: Pickuptruck.com] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
