Filed under: Motorsports , Sports/GTs , Euro , Audi Click above for a hi-res gallery of the Audi R8 GT3 car The courtship between Audi and GT3-class racing teams has officially begun with the automaker's announcement that it has developed a GT3 version of the R8 sports car dubbed "R16" internally by its project overlords at Audi Sport . The rear-drive racer (GT3 regulations prohibit AWD) features a six-speed sequential gearbox, mostly production-spec suspension components, plus an updated front end and a large rear wing designed to keep it planted to the tarmac. No additional tech specs have been revealed at this time. Factory driver Frank Biela was at the wheel for the prototype's roll-out, and customer deliveries are expected to take place next fall. Look for the car to see wheel-to-wheel action against the likes of the Aston Martin DBRS9 and Jaguar XKR GT3 during the 2009 European racing season. We patiently await its inclusion in a future Gran Turismo update so that...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Wagons/Estates , Euro , Paris Motor Show , Audi Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2009 Audi RS6 sedan. It looks like we won't have to wait for the Paris Motor Show to get our first glimpse of the 2009 Audi RS6 sedan and it's lesser A6 siblings. Audi has released all the details on its new four-door M5-eater, packing a direct-injected, twin-turbo'd V10 putting out 580 hp and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. The same mill that powers the Avant version allows the sedan to sprint to 60 in 4.5-seconds on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph. The duo of turbos huffs 1.6 bars of boost into the dry sump-equipped 5.0-liter V10, with peak torque arriving at 1,500 RPM and maximum horsepower available at 6,250 RPM. A six-speed tiptronic transmission allows drivers to choose between automatic or manual mode, reducing shift times by one-tenth of second, and sending power to Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Dynamic Ride Control reduces...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Convertibles , Sports/GTs , Euro , Audi , Misc. Auto Shows Click above for a high-res gallery of the TT clubsport quattro Last year at the Wörthersee tour, VW and Audi threw red meat to the fans in the form of the Audi TT Clubsport quattro concept and the VW Golf GTI W12 650 . Each was awesome in its own way, and now VW/Audi has set a precedent. For the Wörthersee 2008, Audi had already announced it would be bringing the A3 TDI clubsport quattro concept . Today, it drops shoe No. 2 by revealing a much more production-oriented version of the TT clubsport quattro. This is the same car that was spied out in the open last week. Officially, it's still a concept. Realistically, you know this thing's going into limited production. The '08 edition of the TT clubsport follows in the '07 show car's footprints. Like its forebear, it packs 300 horsepower underhood (presumably from a TFSI four). That juice is directed to all four wheels via quattro...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hatchbacks , Audi Click above for a high-res gallery of the Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro. Audi has released the first official images of its newest concept before the wraps are taken off at the Lake Wörther Tour in Austria later this month. Think of the Audi A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro concept as a smaller, racier, more attainable version of the Audi R8 V12 TDI concept shown in Detroit , with power provided by the highest specific output diesel in the world. Look past the DTM-inspired bodywork and you'll get an aluminum-enhanced glimpse of the oilburning jewel that lies beneath. The 1,968cc turbodiesel produces 221 hp and 332 lb.-ft. of torque available at an oh-so-low 1,750 rpm. Power is sent through a six-speed manual transmission before it reaches the ground through Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system. Audi claims that the A3 TDI Clubsport Quattro can reach 62 mph in 6.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 149 mph. We believe it. While the body work...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Convertibles , Audi Click above for high-res gallery of TT Clubsport Quattro spy shots When Audi debuted the TT Clubsport Quattro Concept at the Wörthersee 2007 enthusiast meet last May, it was officially a design study. Apparently some folks at Audi determined that the concept was worth studying further, as spy photographers have captured what appears to be a production version based on the current TT. While most of the styling cues have been toned down to fit the current-gen TT, the speedster treatment remains the same with a short, pillarless, wrap-around windshield, high roll bars behind the seats and serious fender flares at all four corners. Other changes include larger side mirrors, an additional brake light out back and the use of actual door handles where the concept only showed bare sheetmetal. That concept was powered by a 300-horsepower TFSI four-cylinder, though we don't know what powerplant resides under this TT's hood. Judging by the...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Supercars , Audi Click above for a gallery of the V10 Audi R8. We've been following the developments surrounding the V10-powered R8 for what seems like eons. But today, we received the most definitive proof yet; engine-bay shots and a video of a white prototype shot in Florida. According to members of AudiWorld, a few V10 mules have been handed out to current, and supposedly trustworthy, R8 owners for evaluation, sporting oval exhaust pipes and a revised fascia. While that's a rather unconventional move on Audi's part, it's proof that the automaker is getting ready to launch the new RS8 (or R10) in the near future. Hit the jump to hear the V10-powered R8 stretching its legs. Filed under: SUVs , Crossovers/CUVs , Audi , Misc. Auto Shows Click above for a high-res gallery of the Audi Q5 For months now we've seen spy photos and heard speculation about Audi's new Q5 CUV. Now, we finally have the official news on the latest entry from Ingolstadt. Unlike its big brother the Q7, the Q5 doesn't share an architecture with a VW model. The Q5 utilizes the same underpinnings as the A5 coupe and A4 sedan/wagon. That means the Q5 has a longitudinally mounted engine rather than the transverse powerplant found in the smaller VW Tiguan. While we were in Germany to drive the new A4, Audi invited us into their design center in Ingolstadt to check out their new virtual reality design system and have a look at the Q5 in the metal, prior to its official coming out party in Beijing. Compared to the Q7, the Q5 looks substantially more compact than its hefty sibling and is much tidier design overall, keeping with Audi's current pretensions of being a premium sporting...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Geneva Motor Show , Supercars , Audi Click image above for high-res shots of the R8 V12 TDI Le Mans We just got our first glimpse of the newest AudiR8 concept and we are breathless. Most of that is due to digging ourselves out of the scrum that resulted when the press conference concluded and we found ourselves in a crush of humanity that made us momentarily consider knocking down a few pushy folks around us. Gladly, the thought passed quickly and so did the crowd. What we have for you now is a cluster of pics of this tasty turbodiesel treat. When we told you about this car yesterday, we expected it to be much like the silvery version we saw in Detroit. That was mostly true. This version, finished in Brilliant Red is called the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans to play on Audi's participation in dominance of that legendary endurance race in recent years. It features the same 6.0L V12 pumping out 500 horsepower and prodigious torque, enough in fact (737 lb-ft) to be among...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Supercars , Audi Click image for a hi-res gallery of the Audi R8 TDI Le Mans The Audi R8 V12 TDI concept that made such a splash in Detroit has a fraternal twin, and it's headed to Geneva. Finished in Brilliant Red paint and dubbed the R8 TDI Le Mans -- the association with the fabled endurance race carries a lot more weight on the Continent -- the car arrives in Geneva with the same impressive spec sheet as its silver counterpart. A 6.0L V12 TDI is crammed in the space behind the R8's passenger compartment. It packs a bit of a punch, too -- 500 horsepower and enough torque (737 lb-ft) to alter the earth's rotation allow for a 0-62 mph time of just 4.2 seconds and a 186 mph top end. That's Euro 6-compliant power, too. Clean and mean -- emphasis on the mean. We'll have live shots of it for you tomorrow. Filed under: Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Green , Audi click the TT diesel for a high res gallery After Audi unveiled the almighty R8 V12 TDI at the Detroit Auto Show, I asked the obvious question and they made it clear that they had no plans to build a production version. Now that the disappointment has subsided somewhat, Audi is offering up a consolation prize, although it's not known yet if the US market will get a crack at it. For the first time since the original TT debuted ten years ago, Audi will be offering a version with a diesel engine. A 170 hp, 258 lb-ft 2.0L TDI will be available in both the TT Coupe and Roadster. Putting the torque down through all four wheels by way of a six-speed manual gearbox, the coupe will run 0-62 mph in 7.5 sec, with the ragtop accomplishing the feat in 7.7sec. While by no means blistering speeds, the nature of diesel engine torque will mean that the TTs will feel quick everywhere. The real upside to all of this is the fuel economy of this...

Fans of The Godfather will love it, and anyone even remotely aware of The Godfather 's memorable scenes will get it. Whether it helps persuade luxury car buyers that the interlocking rings constitute an offer they can't refuse will be determined on future sales charts. If nothing else, however, we know that Audi certainly brought its "A" game to Super Bowl Sunday...and that Johnny Fontane will get that movie. Watch the preview here . Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Supercars , Audi click above for more gorgeous high-res shots of the Audi R8 V12 TDI Today Audi brought some more of its Le Mans-conquering technology to the street in the form of the new R8 V-12 TDI. The R8 V12 TDI is a concept that melds the 6.0L V-12 diesel from last years Q7 concept with the award winning R8 sports car. The concept engine shares a cylinder count with the race-winning R10, but it's actually a completely new engine with a 60-degree bank angle instead of the 90 degrees used on the race engine. While the 500 hp is only par for the course in its class, the 738 lb-ft of torque is enough to shred all four tires with ease. While the R8 V12 TDI storms to 62mph in 4.2 seconds and maxes out at 186mph, it also manages to get 23 MPG. The combination of a 29,000-psi direct-inject fuel injection system, particulate filters and urea injection allows this beast to pass 2014 EuroVI emissions standards, too. They say it will be sporting a 272-hp version of Audi's 2.0 TFSI engine and be available as both a coupe and convertible. Other features include LED daytime running lights and brushed nickel sideview mirrors like on other S models (the S5, S6, S8, etc.), quad exhaust tips and special TT-S badging. In these pictures (sorry about the obnoxious watermarks) we can clearly make out a revised front fascia with larger air inlets, a sharp chin spoiler and more polished accents on the vertical elements of the grille. The wheels, which must be at least 18-inches in diameter...

Filed under: Convertibles , Euro , Audi , Misc. Auto Shows click above image for high-res gallery of the Audi A3 Cabriolet The Bologna Motor Show kicks off today, and Audi has unveiled the A3 Cabriolet for all to see. Based on what we can glean from the released info, the A3 Cabriolet is a Euro-only machine. As such, there are two TDI powerplants available at launch -- a 105-hp 1.9L and a 140-hp 2.0L. Both offer combined-cycle fuel economy better than 44 mpg. There are also a pair of gasoline engines on offer. The 1.8 TFSI makes 160 hp while the 2.0TFSI we're all familiar with produces another 40 on top of that. The 2.0 TDI and both TFSI engines can be had with optional S Tronic dual-clutch gearboxes instead of their standard manual units. All A3 Cabriolets are front-wheel-drive. Appearance-wise, it looks pretty much how you'd expect an Audi to look. The shield grille dominates the front end and makes it instantly recognizable. The compact four-seater has a typically well-executed...
