Filed under: Motorsports , Supercars , Dodge 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 - Click above for high-res image gallery The Dodge Viper isn't for everyone. It's raw and brutal, and it takes a certain type of person to appreciate the its outlandish personality. Regardless of whether you like or dislike Dodge's flagship supercar, it's hard to argue against its capabilities. The Viper ACR is unmatched around the Nurburgring , besting the Corvette ZR1 and much more expensive supercars like the Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and Ferrari Enzo. Apparently, it's quite a drag racer too, according to one owner who took out his brand new, bone stock Viper SRT10 Convertible with just 100 miles on the odometer and ripped off a 10.92-second quarter mile. Most media outlets have tested the Viper's 1/4 mile time in the 11.6- to 11.9-second range, so with the right conditions and a perfect launch, we can see how the run was possible. In this situation, it seems the owner managed to get those...

Filed under: Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , Saleen Click above for high-res gallery of the Dodge Viper ACR Saleen's future has been in upheaval the last few years. First, company founder Steve Saleen left, then the company's assets were sold off to private investors . Its new owners plan to continue making superchargers and bolt-on parts, but Saleen's turnkey Racecraft and S lines could face the axe, while the company's former keepers retain ownership of its supercar manufacturing business while they figure out what they can do with it. Meanwhile, Chrysler has been looking to sell of its Viper operation , but while Saleen could have been a contender in years past, in its current condition few expect it to make such a large acquisition. That may be a false assumption, however, as silence is speaking louder than words. Understandably, Chrysler's management is not disclosing the identities of the three potential buyers with which it is discussing the future of the Viper enterprise...

Filed under: Supercars , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , Earnings/Financials Click above for high-res gallery of the Dodge Viper ACR Chrysler has been out shopping its Viper line since August of last year, and reports now indicate that there are at least three interested parties that have made offers for America's other sports car. So far, there's no word on who those suitors may be, but past rumors had indicated that both Saleen ( not likely ) and Roush were interested. When the announcement was initially made that the automaker was considering offloading Viper as a brand. The prevailing thought was that the move could save the car from extinction; now, the tables have turned and it's generally acknowledged that Viper's sale may actually help save its struggling parent company. The income from selling the sportscar unit could help bolster the report due to Congress by the end of March regarding Chrysler's long-term viability, but the automaker doesn't expect to have anything...

Filed under: Auction Action , Dodge Click above for a high-res gallery of the Hurst Viper at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction Autoblog was the first media outlet that was granted access to the matte gold-colored Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper. Unfortunately, our pockets aren't nearly deep enough to actually purchase one for ourselves. We did, however, manage to witness the sale of the very first model down the assembly line to one very lucky bidder here in Scottsdale, AZ, at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Classic Car Auction. Included in the deal were an adjustable Motion Sport Suspension with Eibach springs, a custom Corsa exhaust system and a fresh set of Hurst black chrome wheels sized 19-inches up front and 20-inches in the rear. Oh, and a custom dash-mounted plaque with the buyer's name engraved on it for all to see. How cool is that? Wondering what sum of money it took to secure rights to the first Hurst Anniversary Viper of 50? Exactly $275,000 after auction fees...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Auction Action , Supercars , First Drive , Special/Limited Editions Click above for high-res image gallery of the Hurst 50th Anniversary Hurst Viper Ron Flint, president of Hurst Performance , is quick to let you know that founder George Hurst's original intent was to make hot rods for gentlemen. It is ironic, then, that for the revived company's 50th anniversary, it has thrown its energies into a car that isn't a hot rod, and certainly isn't for gentlemen: a Dodge Viper. Leaving the heart of the beast well enough alone, Hurst merely tinkered with some oily bits, stuffed the thing with leather, and then slathered it in a hue something like a monochrome sunset. Autoblog was invited to be the first to drive the Hurst 50th Anniversary Dodge Viper , and you know what we discovered? There's (matte) gold in them thar hills. Follow the jump for the story and video of our drive, and be sure to check out the gallery of gorgeous...
