Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Renault Click above to view the video From our friends at the Axis of Oversteer comes a story of determination, fortitude, and a healthy dose of Darwinian law. With less than a mile left in a stage of the Ralley de Serrians in France, the throttle cable in our hero's Renault finally gives up the ghost. Does he give up? No! Does the team try to push their way to the finish? Hell no! The driver tells his co-pilot to man the wheel while he hops into the engine bay, pulls the hood over himself and then manually controls the throttle cable bracket to a heroic finish. The picture above speaks for itself, but the video after the jump tells the whole tale. Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Subaru Click above to watch Ken Block, master hoon There are a remarkable number of crap car videos floating around the intertubes, so it takes a special breed of driving deity to make something that catches our attention. Card-carrying member of the automotive master race, Ken Block , did just that by setting up an utterly insane Gymkhana course around El Toro and then proceeds to flog the life out of his Crawford-prepped Subaru Impreza STI through countless turns, drifts and 360s to create over four minutes of pure motoring bliss. The video speaks for itself, so hit the jump to check it out. And if you want to get inside the mind of the man, head over to 0-60 to read a brief interview of Block and his madcap run. Filed under: Motorsports , Euro , Videos , Humor Click above to watch the video after the jump Honestly now, who doesn't enjoy a good laugh at the expense of a stereotypical caricature of a Frenchman? We know we do. Especially when peppered with footage of spectacular racing crashes, over which the Parisian telecasters can say little more than "Oolala!", "Incroyable!", "Sacre Bleu!" and such. So sit back, pop open a beer and enjoy the endless humor of French exclamation. [Source: Axis of Oversteer ] Continue reading VIDEO: Oolala! French commentators at a loss for words VIDEO: Oolala! Filed under: Motorsports , Videos Click above to view the video Looks like Fernando Alonso and Robert Kubica didn't get enough head-to-head racing action last week in Japan. The first and second place finishers in Fuji decided to go at it once again when the pair reached this week's F1 stop in Shanghai. Rather than risk their multi-million dollar F1 race cars, and quite possibly their careers, the two opted to hit the local kart track instead. Alonso probably has a weight advantage in this scenario, but that shouldn't take away from his mad driving skillz. Watch the non-English video after the jump to see how it turned out and stick around for the victory lap. You'll get a chance to see the some of the best donuts you'll ever witness. Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Commercial Trucks Click above to view video after the jump For as clean and green and Earth-loving as the Europeans are, they sure do some dirty things... like throw a sooty-exhaust-belching racing semi around hairpin turns with loads of opposite lock - up an impossibly green mountain - just for a hillclimb. But hey, trucks and racing aren't illegal yet, so we say flog 'em while ya got 'em. Check out the video of Markus Boesiger, 2007's Truck Racing Champion, and his dashing diesel after the jump . Filed under: Aftermarket , Motorsports , SEMA , Tuners , Videos , Ford Click above to watch video after the jump Back in the first Ponycar era, a Ford Mustang packed with a Cobra Jet V8 was a mighty drag strip warrior. Better still was the Super Cobra Jet, augmenting the CJ's enhanced breathing with a stouter lower end. Either way, a 428-powered Mustang would tear off elapsed times in the high 13s - still fast today. Since the current Mustang is a headlong dive into nostalgia, it stands to reason that Ford's working up a new Cobra Jet and eyeing drag racing domination yet again. We have no details other than a video after the jump that shows an obviously tweaked Mustang making a quarter mile run at Milan Dragway in Michigan, but the actual car will be coming to SEMA very soon, so Ford Racing is likely making sure that nothing blows up once the package is offered for sale. We've sent in our resume for the job of drag-race test driver; shoot, you don't even have to steer!...

Filed under: Motorsports , Videos Click above image to watch the video This weekend Singapore will host Formula 1's first night race, and SPEED TV has created a computerized lap of the course narrated by Mark Webber taking you through the 24 corners. Perhaps the best part of this brand new track in a brand new host country at a brand new time of day night is the knowledge that there are three spots for overtaking, which hopefully means this will be more than just a two-hour parade lap. If nothing else, McLaren might be packing a surprise. Follow the jump to check out the video. Thanks for the tip, Andy! Filed under: Motorsports , Euro , Marketing/Advertising , Videos Click the image above to view the video We know that McLaren has a sense of humor, we simply never know when it's going to reveal itself. Happily for us, the team has decided it's time to laugh again. The Singapore Grand Prix, on September 28, is the first Formula 1 race at night, and team CEO Martin Whitmarsh gives us a little insight into McLaren's preparations. This is the kind of silly season that makes sense. Follow the jump for the video. Thanks for the tip, Peter! Filed under: Motorsports , Euro , Videos , Porsche Click above to watch video after the jump Remember those pseudo-scientific experiments you did as a child after school or on summer break? Well of course you didn't do them...you were a good kid. But there was always some mischievous child in the neighborhood who would. Well those kids have grown up. (Technically, anyway.) And now they race in the Porsche Supercup series, where they wonder what would happen if you put a couple dozen race-tuned, rear-engined 911s on a rain-soaked grand prix track and told their drivers that there's a prize waiting for them at the finish line. Follow the jump to see what happened. [Source: Axis of Oversteer ] Continue reading Rain + Porsches - Traction = Entertainment Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Supercars , UK Steve Sutcliffe was wrapping up Autoca r's annual 0-100-0 test when a well spoken Japanese gentleman wandered over and started checking out the cars. Now what would you do if you had a car park full of supercars, a private track rented for the day and a Formula 1 driver hove in to view? Give him the keys then grab a video camera? Evidently Steve thinks the same way. Rather than let Taku embarrass Steve's 0-100-0 times "because he's small and lighter" (yes Steve, we're sure that's the only reason he'd be quicker...) Autocar let him off the leash on the full track. Click through to see what Taku, who drives a classic Mini Cooper in the UK and a Honda Beat when in Japan, got up to in his first few minutes in a real supercar -- and why he got red flagged all too early. Taku, who lost his F1 drive when Super Aguri folded earlier this year, has an official test with Scuderia Toro Rosso on September 18th. On the...

Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Dodge Pro motor sports may draw immense crowds, but on the boob tube, the football is king. That could be the reason Team Mopar and BFGoodrich utilized the pigskin in its latest TV ad showcasing controlled drifting. Hit the jump to see Samuel Hubinette pilot the Mopar drift Charger to and through a tee'd-up football as the rear quarter panel plays placekicker. Though not as cool as the commercial that shows Hubinette sliding the Charger through an aircraft hanger , it's definitely worth a look. Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Subaru Click above to view video after the jump It's no secret that running a motorsports team is a lot of work, but probably most of us don't know how much time and effort it really takes. Just building the race cars can take hundreds of man hours, as evidenced by this stop-motion video created by the U.S. Subaru rally team. Starting with a stock 2008 WRX STI, the team strips the car down to its frame by removing the engine, drivetrain, interior and even the windshield. The complete transformation takes an amazing 800 hours of labor. Knowing that makes us cringe even more when we see one roll end over end . Follow the jump to watch the video. Filed under: Motorsports , Videos , Dodge Click above to witness Hubinette's drifting skills We know Sam Hubinette has incredible drifting skills. The Crazy Swede is a two-time champion in Formula Drift and makes a living doing stunt driving, but that still doesn't mean we would put our life in his hands. Streetfire.net's Creative Director Alexis Godschalk, however, seems to have more of either faith or bravery than we do. While filming a video intro StreetFire, Hubinette sends his Viper hurtling towards Godschalk and doesn't even flinch. Follow the jump to watch the video and see just how close Hubinette gets.
