  • 2010 Toyota Prius revealed more in YouTube video

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Hybrids/Alternative , Green , Videos , Hatchbacks , Toyota Click above to watch video after the jump Toyota's irritatingly slow leak of seemingly insignificant 2010 Prius teasers has shown us such riveting details as the hybrid car's startup screen , power seat switch and some sort of all-knowing seeing-eye camera . A much more interesting set of leaks has also granted us an early but pixelated peek at the car's external shape, along with detail shots like the rear LED tail lamp assembly and a few different looks at the interior. Now, we've discovered a set of YouTube videos that definitely don't seem to have come from Toyota itself. In the videos after the jump we see the new 2010 Prius spinning on a rotating stage, we see buttons on the steering wheel that change the digital readouts on the central dash and we see a brief glimpse of the car's generous storage capacity via its hatchback body style - all of it set to wonderfully numbing...
  • New Nissan Cube teaser vid shows... nothing

Filed under: LA Auto Show , Economy , Videos , Hatchbacks , Nissan Click above to view video after the jump Go figure. Nissan's playing the debut of the revised and now U.S.-bound Cube very, very close to the vest. We say this because there are photos of the new 370Z all over the place -- released by Nissan, no less. The Cube? Not so much. We posted leaked imagery, and were subsequently forced to pull them down, so we know they were accurate. (No worries, scraped copies of that post are all over the web . Click away.) Aside from that, the only other views of the redesigned Cube came courtesy of Tomica's new die-cast . So it was with excitement that we opened this new Cube teaser video released by Nissan (view after the jump ), only to find that it shows absolutely nothing , except possibly the logo for the new Cube's branding. We're waiting like everyone else for the car's debut next week at the LA Auto Show . In the interim, you can pass the time by reading our review...
  • VIDEO: Toyota Yaris flies into the danger zone, drives off aircraft carrier

Filed under: Economy , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Hatchbacks , Toyota Click above to view video after the jump Toyota is hitting the boob tube hard to advertise its sub-compact Yaris, and the Japanese automaker has found its funny bone in these newest spots. The overall theme of the new campaign is that the Yaris is clever enough to do "almost anything" by demonstrating the few things this little three-door can't. One commercial, for instance shows the Yaris being unsuccessfully piloted by a bobsled team. The newest commercial, however, puts the Yaris on the deck of an aircraft carrier where it attempts to take off after getting the OK from flight control. As you might have guessed, the Yaris can't fly, so the Little hatch goes overbooard into the drink. Follow the jump to see a Yaris go swimming with the fishes for yourself. Thanks for the tip, Matt! • VIDEO: It takes two Fiestas to tango

Filed under: Coupes , Economy , Videos , Hatchbacks , Ford Click above to watch video after the jump We're really excited for the new Ford Fiesta to hit U.S. shores, but unfortunately we have almost two more years to wait. Our friends overseas don't have to wait at all, though, so marketing for the attractive sub-compact has already started in the UK. One such publicity stunt involved a pair of three-door Fiestas that tore up the dance floor recently near the Tower of London at the Tango at the Tower event while a 20-piece orchestra jammed the classic tune. That's right - cars doing the tango. Hit the jump to view the well-choreographed video of the two Fiestas going toe to toe in the rain. We're tempted to quip that these Fiestas have better moves than Kim Kardashian, but we have no desire to admit watching Dancing with the Stars . • VIDEO: 2009 Volkswagen GTI VI on the move

Filed under: Videos , Hatchbacks , Volkswagen Click above to watch video after the jump The 2009 Volkwagen Golf GTI has made its official debut today at the 2008 Paris Motor Show today, but it will be a few weeks if not months before anyone, let alone us, gets time behind the wheel to sample this rapid rabbit. Fortunately we've found some video of the new GTI being driven somewhere in the world by people other than us, and it looks like they're having fun doing it. GTI-ophiles will get their choice of three- or five-door models when the car arrives, though both will be powered by the same 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder producing 210 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual or DSG is offered, and new for '09 is an XDS electronic limited-slip differential. Feel free to watch it all in action after the jump , and don't worry, this video has no janky hair-metal soundtrack from the '80s. All you hear is the engine revving and road passing beneath the tires. Gallery...
  • VIDEO: New Citroen C4 actually a dancing robot

Filed under: Coupes , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Hatchbacks , Citroen Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2010 New Look Citroen C4 and robot We often wonder why French wine, fashion and architecture make total sense to us, yet French commercials often make us go "Um, ok, all right...." Citroen's C4 dancing robot first appeared back in 2004 -- well before Optimus Prime and crew teamed up with film director Michael Bay -- and since then he's done four more commercials to showcase the car that is "alive with technology." With this latest clip, make that "staying alive with technology." Roaming the streets of New York, he's kitted out in chrome teeth and a glitter beret, jiving out to the Bee Gees while he performs style checks in any mirrored surface and poses for pictures. We have to admit his dance moves are hot, but Ironhide would probably shoot him if given the chance. As for his alter ego, the New Look Citroen C4, it gets a grille...
  • VIDEO: This is not how cars are built - Fiesta Love Factory

Filed under: Euro , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Hatchbacks , Ford If Willy Wonka made cars, this is what it would look like. The cold, hard reality is that automobiles are ground out like sausages in huge factories that ingest raw materials at one end and spit out shiny metal boxes filled with ticky-tacky at the other end. Marketing's a funny thing, though; building an emotional connection to your product can often lead to sales gold, so Ford's slathering its Fiesta marketing effort in pheromones to make it irresistible to buyers. It's all very trippy and fun, full of primary colors and smiling faces, but the thing is, we already love the Fiesta. They could put Orson Welles out there at his most cantankerous, and that'd be fine. We do dig the creativity, and since it's an entry level car, maybe the target market will be entirely comfortable with the campaign, having just recently graduated from Sesame Street, anyway. • VIDEO: Sylvester Stallone shilling for VW in Brazil

Filed under: Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Hatchbacks , Volkswagen Many actors loan out their famous faces to make some extra coin in foreign markets without over saturating their image here in the States. Big screen tough guy Sylvester Stallone is no different, and since he hasn't had a good financially successful picture since Demolition Man, he was probably pretty excited when Volkswagen of Brazil came calling. Following the jump are two VW commercials for the VW Gol hatchback. The first one is a minute and a half long, and features a Rambo-style helicopter vs. sub-Polo Gol battle royale. And the second one involves a group of curious onlookers honing in on the Gol as it sits parked on the side of the road. Both ads feature a rough-looking Stallone showing up at the end, and even though he only utters a few words, a Portuguese-speaking dub is needed. Hillarious, and kind of sad at the same time. Thanks for the tip, Carlos! [Source: Argentina Autoblog ] Continue reading VIDEO:...
  • VIDEO: Alfa Romeo Mi.To on the move

Filed under: Videos , Hatchbacks , Alfa Romeo Click above to video after the jump That's right, more Alfa Romeo Mi.To media. Hot on the heels of the large batch of high-res pics we got yesterday comes this video of the Mi.To in motion. We see the car both being flogged on a track and driven leisurely around what we presume to be is Italy. What's most impressive is how flat the Mi.To corners through the slalom. The small three-door hatchback appears able to maintain composure with sharp inputs to the steering wheel despite its super short wheelbase. We also get a tour of the Mi.To's interior that looks to be made of high-quality materials and features some interesting design details. Bonus points for whoever can figure out what that chromed lever on the dash does. Check out the video after the jump . • VIDEO: smart fortwo crash test leaks out of IIHS

Filed under: Economy , Safety , Videos , Hatchbacks , SMART The IIHS has put the 2008 smart fortwo through its frontal offset crash test, and the video is on YouTube even though the IIHS hasn't released its results yet. For everyone who points out the benefits of the smart's miniscule size, there are a number of others who say they wouldn't want to go up against a normal American car in a smart. Even the NHTSA had some concerns when it tested the fortwo's crashworthiness . Based on the video after the jump, however, it looks like the smart acquits itself quite well with no deformation of the A-pillar and not even a crack in the windshield. We'll have to wait for the IIHS to give its final, official word, however. Sure, we wouldn't want to be driving a smart fortwo in an accident... but that's only because we don't want to be in an accident. Follow the jump to watch the video for yourself. • VIDEO: Subaru ad reminds us why the STI rocks

Filed under: Videos , Hatchbacks , Subaru The Subaru WRX STI has the speed and agility to be a track star, but on dirt, few machines on earth can keep up with the sprightly little screamer. The impressive little Scooby can scoot just like the last-gen model, but now it does it with a refinement the old model lacked. For fans and foes of the AWD pocket rocket, team Subie made a one-minute video tribute to the coolness that is STI. Hit the jump to view some seriously amazing jumps, flips, spin-outs, crashes, and power slides featuring the old car that concludes with the '08 ride tearing up the tarmac. If you don't want to go drive an STI after watching this clip, you may be dead. • Pics Aplenty +VIDEO: 2008 SEAT Ibiza unveiling

Filed under: Euro , Videos , Hatchbacks , SEAT Click above to view more of the SEAT Ibiza unveiling in hi-res Just yesterday we brought you news of the new SEAT Ibiza . Previewed by the black-mouthed Bocanegtra concept unveiled in Geneva, the new Ibiza itself previews the subtle change in direction to SEAT's design language, incorporating sharp intersecting lines with a more crowd-pleasing grille. European customers, however, will have to wait a little longer to see the 3-door versions, as well as for the high-performance Cupra model. In the meantime, the Spanish Volkswagen subsidiary has now unleashed a whole corral of images of the new five-door hatch, plus a video of the car from every angle. Unveiling at the SEAT facility on the outskirts of Barcelona, the new Ibiza will have its motor show debut in Madrid late next month and will hit European markets shortly thereafter. • Greek booty strikes again in Chevy Matiz commercial (NSFW)

Filed under: Euro , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Hatchbacks , Chevrolet Oh dear. It seems the marketing team for Chevrolet in Greece has just one thing on its collective mind, and suffice it to say, it's not the Matiz. Granted, the girls in these ads we've been seeing on the 'net lately are infinitely more enticing than the budget hatchback, but still... enough is enough. That won't keep us from watching the commercial, though, or from minding that we can't understand what's being said. Hey, it's all Greek to us, and it's all good. Check out the video after the jump , and the one that came before it , which we think better bridges the language gap. • Noodle vs. Strudel: WebRidesTV pits MS3 against R32

Filed under: Videos , Hatchbacks , Mazda , Volkswagen Everyone loves a good shootout and it's even better when the two vehicles duking it out are actually attainable. Enter the WebRidesTV crew who setup shop at our new favorite road course, the Horse Thief Mile at Willow Springs , to run the Mazdaspeed3 and Volkswagen R32 through their paces to see which vehicle provides the best bang for the buck in the hotter-than-hot hatch segment. While the performance and price discrepancy is rather high - the R32 is packing fewer ponies but comes in with a higher sticker - the reviewer is keen to point out that both models have their high and low points. The MS3 may put down better lap times, but the R32 might have it beat on interior accoutrements and a more Grand Touring demeanor -- as with any review, it comes down to what you value more. You can view this newest review from WebRidesTV after the jump and check out their last shootout between the Roush and Saleen from last month. Gallery: In...
  • VIDEO: Polish dual-steering fun in a Fiat 126p

Filed under: Economy , Etc. , Videos , Hatchbacks , FIAT Sometimes, when guys get bored, they get inventive. When they get inventive, hilarity often ensues, such as when they add dual steering to a Fiat 126p , reverse the bodywork, and then head out to play in traffic. You know what? Cars that can drive "backwards" and on an angle like defective shopping carts are cool . Extra laughs arrive at around the midway point, when a buddy joins the driver to physically man the second steering wheel, the sight of which is ridiculous. For the most part, however, the yellow-shirted driver is soloing with one hand on each wheel. It is as insane as it is hilarious. We have a feeling this might be the answer to that new Renault Twingo that set the J-turn world record . See the wackiness for yourselves after the jump.
