• VIDEO: Sega's classic OutRun returning on XBox Live

Filed under: Videos , Ferrari , Toys Sega's OutRun Online Arcade - Click above to watch video after the jump With many worried that government regulations will soon strangle the concept of having fun in an actual car, it's convenient that game makers are developing more ways to have fun with virtual cars. SEGA is updating that old arcade classic OutRun with the latest in automaker metal, and the new game will arrive as OutRun Online Arcade on XBox Live Arcade and the Euro-version PlayStation Network. Up to six players can play three different modes on 15 U.S. tracks while driving any of ten Ferraris, which is a much better selection than the original's only option: a Ferrari Testarossa convertible. Imagine Formula D in a Dino or Enzo and you're pretty close. But even Formula D doesn't offer you this: "If you impress your girlfriend enough in Heart Attack Mode, you will receive special requests." Okay... For U.S. customers, the game will be out June 30th on...
• VIDEO: OverPowered PowerWheels + Winter = Big Fun

Filed under: Etc. , Videos , Toys , Humor Click above to watch videos after the jump Truth be told, we've always thought PowerWheels were underpowered, too. We just never thought of custom building them with a 110cc gas engine from a pit bike, four-speed manual transmission and electric start. Some other guys did, and watching their results in action will seriously mess with your childhood memories. Their stable of monsters are a Greatest Hits of the PowerWheels garage including the Ford F-150, Barbie Corvette, Barbie Jeep (with wheelie bar), Hummer H2 and Mustang Convertible. Each one looks like an "After" picture of Barry Bonds - a little bigger than you remember and way more powerful. These grown men sit more atop their custom cars than in them, and to say their creations are less safe than a Chinese-built Smart clone would be an understatement. And yet, riding them looks more than enough fun to outweigh the risk of your head becoming a roll bar. The first video after the...
• Premature Transformation? Transformers 3 opening July 1, 2011

Filed under: Etc. , Marketing/Advertising , Toys We're chomping at the bit in anticipation of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen , which debuts nation-wide on June 24. We likely haven't even seen all the theatrical trailers, yet Paramount and Dreamworks have already declared July 1, 2011 the opening day for the third installment of the Transformers franchise . Some film franchises these days shoot movies back to back to cut down on production costs and keep momentum, but that isn't the case with T3. In fact, the third Transformers flick hasn't even been written yet, nor has a writer been hired. It seems that competition for the best summer release dates is fierce, which forces studios to plan far into the future - before a project is even off the ground. We can't even think that far ahead yet, so we're just going to keep our focus on T2, hoping it doesn't let us down. If it flops, we may not even have a Transformers 3 to worry about. Thanks for the tip, Leigh...
• This One's For the Kids: Automoblox holding snapshot contest

Filed under: Gadgets , Etc. , Toys Automoblox are some of our favorite playthings, and our kids like them, too. When a little cherub wraps baby-fat fingers around the C9 perched on the edge of the desk, rather than grit our teeth, we just wait to see what kind of assemblage will emerge. That free play time can now be worth cash money if you manage to capture a photo that wins one of the categories in the Automoblox Photo Contest . Three categories will be considered; coolest car, best play action, and most artistic photograph. Winners will receive a $200 gift certificate, good at the Automoblox Store . Entries are being accepted until March 31, 2009, and winners will be announced on April 3rd. Get out there and get shooting! • VIDEO: 3Z Scale Bulldog R/C Rider world's first rideable R/C car

Filed under: Videos , Toys , Humor Click above to watch video after the jump We're big fans of R/C cars here at Autoblog, but we obviously love actually driving vehicles, as well. 3Z Scale has what might be the marriage of our two passions with its Bulldog R/C Rider. The Bulldog is a 1/3 scale remote control vehicle that sports a stadium truck body, 1100cc 4-stroke engine, disc brakes, automatic transmission, independent suspension and aluminum wheels. You can pilot the big R/C all day long behind a 2.4 GHz radio transmitter, but when that gets old, the Bulldog converts into a rideable ATV of sorts. Unfortunately, as the video after the jump demonstrates, controlling the vehicle by remote is not possible when there's a rider on the back of the Bulldog. In that mode, the rider controls the vehicles with handlebars. Nevertheless, imagining the fun we could have with an R/C car that's 4' 2" long and weighs nearly 200 lbs. makes the mind reel. And when we're done we...
• Next GRiD? Joystiq gets hands-on with Need for Speed SHIFT

Filed under: Toys Need for Speed SHIFT - Click above for image gallery Any day of the week between 10 PM and 12 AM EST, you can probably find me on Xbox Live playing GRiD (FYI... my gamer tag is simply Autoblog), and Autoblog Executive Editor Chris Paukert often jumps in for the fun as well. We love this driving game from Codemasters for its balance of accuracy and arcade-style fun. GRiD , however, may have some new competition from a franchise we thought, based on its recent spate of titles, was on its way out. As we reported last month, the Need for Speed franchise is being split into a trio of games : one for the consoles called Need for Speed SHIFT , a free one for PCs called Need for Speed World Online and a Wii-exclusive version called Need for Speed: Nitro . Joystiq recently had time to play an early version of Need for Speed SHIFT and came away mighty impressed. "The game is 95% pure racing simulation, with a bit of arcade feel thrown in," is how they described it. What...
• Here's Mud In Your Eye: Ford Raptor gets new microsite

Filed under: Gadgets , Trucks/Pickups , Marketing/Advertising , Ford , Toys Click above for a high-res gallery of the F-150 Raptor driving simulator Ford is looking to drum up some extra interest in its F-150 SVT Raptor off-road specialist ahead of its actual on-sale date (which is still only listed as "coming soon") with the introduction of a new dedicated microsite that you can check out here . Features on the new web destination include a place to learn what makes the Raptor different from the rest of the F-150 lineup, along with videos, a gallery and an online tool to build your own. Still not enough to whet your appetite? According to Brian Bell, Ford's F-150 consumer marketing manager, "We want people to understand the unique capability of this truck, that it can do things that other trucks just can't." To that end, Ford has been bringing an off-road driving simulator to the assorted U.S. auto shows that we've been following over the last few months...
• New SuperCar Challenge for PS3 under development

Filed under: Gadgets , Videos , Toys Click above for high-res gallery of SuperCar Challenge screen caps System 3 has a follow-up title to last year's Ferrari Challenge: SuperCar Challenge . The new game will offer 40 cars to choose from, not all of which are Ferraris this team. The roster will include such cars as the Aston Martin DBR9, Lamborghini Murcielago RGT, McLaren F1, Maserati MC12 and, of course, a supercar or two from Maranello like the Ferrari FXX. You'll be able to race them on 20 real and fictitious tracks and the graphics of each car have been improved with better polygon counts, texture details and buffing. Multiplayer capability can link 16 drivers at once, sim players will get good handling and tuning options, and there'll be an arcade mode for folks who just want to tear up the pavement. The AI has also been redesigned to be more consistent, and there's a "Legendary" AI setting meant to challenge the best drivers. It will be available exclusively...
