Filed under: Trends , Euro , Supercars , Earnings/Financials , Celebrities , Special/Limited Editions The Top Gear we know and love includes hordes of outlandishly expensive exotic and luxury cars that we could never afford. Lamborghini and Ferrari will still be represented for Series 13, but if rumors are true, the BBC boys are going to dedicate more air time to the everyday cars that the rest of us drive, and less time with costly stunts like the one seen above. Executive Producer Andy Wilman is shooting for fuel efficient, affordable transportation in light of the global recession. Series 13 was originally planning for a road trip including a Lambo and a Porsche, but instead the excursion will include more sedate transportation like the Toyota iQ. That doesn't sound very exciting, but we have faith in Top Gear to make their episodes equally entertaining... after all, we've seen what they can do with a Chevrolet Lacetti. Top Gear should grip on recessionary economics because even...

Filed under: Videos Click above to watch episodes of Top Gear Russia The Russians have succeeded where the Americans have failed: they got a local version of Top Gear on the air. It's got all the familiar elements: fast cars, oddball challenges, timed laps, beautiful shots, beautiful women, explosions, mayhem, and it's even got The Stig, who drives in Russian. Some suggest the versions without subtitles could be better than the versions with, if you aren't attuned to Russian humor. Check out the unsubtitled shows after the jump; if you don't speak Russian and you really have to know what's up, look here . Filed under: Etc. , Euro , Earnings/Financials , Lifestyle Will Pierce has gotten it backwards. The goal is to get paid for watching Top Gear ; instead, Pierce earned himself a hefty bill for catching up on the Best. Car. Show. Ever. Pierce and his son were on a ski trip in France, where there happens to be a paucity of English-language television. To stave off the boredom, out came the laptop and its Vodafone data card. Vacation saved by internet downloads of Clarkson and friends, father and son returned home to a £21,716 ($30,334.40) internet service bill. Needless to say, the humongous charge was something of a surprise. Thankfully, Vodafone kindly waived Pierce's fees with an admonition to check his plan and whether it covers massive data downloads while in other countries. So, the next time you find yourself in foreign lands with time to burn and a hankering for some quality Stigtime, well... consider yourselves warned. Filed under: Celebrities If life without new episodes of Top Gear is too depressing to bear, you only have a few months to wait for Series 13. Clarkson, Hammond, May and the Stig will be back for more automotive mayhem in June. The terrific trio will undoubtedly have a whole new arsenal of automotive hi-jinx waiting for us in the new series, but those stunts will have to come cheaper than in previous series. To keep the show in the black during tough times, Top Gear took a substantial budget hit. On the Top Gear blog, Executive Producer Andy Wilman noted that the show was already running on a drum-tight budget, and that 2009 cuts will be evident in the final product. We hope not, but we're sure that the guys at Top Gear will air nothing short of an innovative and entertaining Series 13. Filed under: Supercars , Ferrari , Lifestyle , Celebrities Apparently, word got around to Ferrari that Top Gear Live was not using real Prancing Horses for its stunt driving routine in Australia a few weeks back, and it sounds like the Italian automaker is none too happy about it. A spokesperson for Ferrari said, "We asked them to change it... for the Hong Kong [Top Gear Live] show (the last stop on the world tour). We said please use real Ferraris." The Ferrari spokesperson also said that Top Gear Live had admitted to using replica Ferraris. BBC's head of communications, Philip Fleming, says that he's been in contact with Ferrari but stops short of admitting that the show's supposedly Italian machinery was fake. Whatever the case, the Top Gear Live show in Hong Kong didn't use Ferraris at all, real or fake. Instead, the sequence was changed to incorporate unspecified drift cars that TG believes are more in keeping with the the interests of the local audience....

Filed under: Green , Hatchbacks , Volkswagen Click above for high-res gallery of TopGear.com America's Project Sipster TopGear.com America is its own beast, separate and distinct from what Jezza, Hampster and Captain Slow are doing across the pond and within the pages of Top Gear magazine. Having the greatest role models in the world for inspiration, the editors of the site have embarked on their first project car that should make the mother ship very proud. The parameters for this project are simple: 70 mpg, 0-60 in under 7 seconds and less than $7,000. There might be a number of ways to satisfy those restrictive requirements with things like batteries, hydrogen and nuclear fission, but TG America has settled on a solution we can get behind: Take a 1981 Volkswagen Rabbit Diesel and swap out its 28-year-old engine for a modern piece of turbocharged VW TDI tech. The engine swap along won't get the job done, so the team will drive its Frankenügen from the build site in Saskatchewan...

Filed under: Auction Action , Etc. , Euro , Marketing/Advertising , UK We still don't know who the White Stig is , and he could be replaced by the Black Stig , the Purple Stig, or the Rainbow Stig pretty soon. But before he goes, you can win a ride with him around the Top Gear test track. Red Nose Day is a fundraising event put on by the British charity Comic Relief , and it's practically a holiday in UK. One of the items being auctioned for this year's drive is a lap with the Stig, to take place some time on a Wednesday this Summer. If you win, you'll need to make your own way to Surrey, where the Top Gear track is. There is no word on the car you'll be riding in, and since Top Gear filming is a little loosey-goosey, things might get postponed. But still, as of writing the bidding is only up to £3,600.00 (about $5,100 USD), which is a paltry sum for the chance to ride with the automotive equivalent of The Shadow . Bring a red nose...
