Filed under: Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Hatchbacks , Volkswagen Click above for more high-res shots of the 2009 VW Scirocco var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/2009_Volkswagen_Scirocco_arrives_ahead_of_Geneva_Motor_Show'; We can't follow where this particular embargo break began, but a pair of official embargoed images of the production 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco scheduled to be unveiled next week at the Geneva Motor Show has hit the interweb. As you can see, the Scirocco's design has changed dramatically from its days on the auto show circuit as the IROC Concept . Gone is the face only a Pokemon master could love, replaced with something more appropriate for public consumption. In fact, the Scirocco will be the first VW we've seen in a while without the double-decker grille treatment. Instead, a slim grille connects its headlamps that are set atop a wide swath of body colored molding before we get to the large lower air intake that also houses turn signals and...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Hatchbacks , Mitsubishi Click image for a gallery of the Prototype S German pub Autobild has spilled the beans on the Geneva-bound Mitsubishi Prototype S. The "S" is for Sportback, and this show car forecasts a future production vehicle that will probably carry that moniker. The Sportback is crucial for the European market, where hatches account for the majority of car sales. Up front, you essentially have the Lancer Ralliart's nose, which is dressed up with more ornate, concept-style headlamps and foglights. Head around to the car's rump, and you can almost see Mitsu's people drawing a line in the sand, daring the 5-door WRX to come over and "play." The sloping rear hatch is topped by a large, body-colored roof spoiler, and restyled rear lighting wraps from the lid onto the quarter panels. Dual exhaust tips poke through a diffuser insert on the rear bumper, and stylish split-spoke wheels...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Hatchbacks , Renault click either image for high-res gallery of the Renault Laguna GT At the 2008 Geneva Motor Show in less than two weeks, Renault will unveil the Laguna GT Hatch and Sport Tourer to eagerly awaiting Europeans. Both models can be had with one of two new engines making their world debut: a new 2.0 dCi diesel producing 180 hp and 295 pound feet of torque and a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder running on good old gasoline while offering 205 hp and 221 pound feet of torque. In addition to the new motors, the Laguna GT also comes standard with what Renault calls its Active Drive chassis, which is basically a four-wheel steering system. Renault claims all sorts of performance and safety benefits for the Active Drive chassis, though we imagine it will be most appreciated while while trying to parallel park your long Laguna GT between a smart car and somebody's Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Of course, anything charged...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Hatchbacks , FIAT Click image for photo gallery This morning, we brought you a Fiat-provided doodle showing a super-deformed 500 Abarth meant to give us a gist of what to expect when the Italian automaker pulls the cover off the Scorpion-emblazoned performance variant. What we didn't expect was that we'd be seeing official images on the same day we posted the sketch. Thanks to Carscoop (and one of its generous readers), we've got exactly that. The first four (of many, we're sure) official images show the Nuova 500 dressed in the equivalent of a tracksuit and running shoes, with a full bodykit consisting of a new front spoiler, side skirts, and rear bumper with a nifty-looking diffuser insert through which a pair of rolled exhaust tips peek. Black, Scorpion-emblazoned 5-spoke wheels with silver and red accents sit inside the hot hatch's flared fenders, while the endlessly-cool Abarth shield adorns the nose, rear quarters...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Hatchbacks , Mitsubishi click above for more high-res images of the Mitsubishi Prototype-S Mitsubishi has given up the goods on what last week we referred to as the Lancer Sportback , but will go by the name of Prototype-S when it debuts this March at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. The car itself is basically a production version of the Concept-Sportback that debuted at the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, and Mitsubishi hints in its press release that the 5-door hatchback Lancer is destined for the European market. Some details revealed that we didn't know last week include that the Prototype-S is powered by the same 2.0L turbo four-cylinder MIVEC engine that debuted earlier this month in the Lancer Ralliart . It produces 235 horsepower and 253 ft-lbs. of torque, which is routed through Mitsubishi's Twin Clutch SST transmission and sent to all four wheels via a full-time 4WD system using the automaker's Active Center Differential...
