Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Aston Martin Aston Martin has stepped in to clarify recent rumors of its Lagonda revival. We know that a Lagonda concept is due to be shown at next year's Geneva Motor Show, and of late it was speculated to be something SUV-ish . An Aston spokesperson has laid out the plan, and this time neglected to mention the acronym "SUV" at all. Two upcoming Lagondas will probably be sedans and use Aston's VH platform, tending to the luxury side of sporting while Aston solidifies its grip on the sporting side of luxury. An upscale and up-priced version of the Rapide will come in 2011, followed by a $100,000-or-so S-Class challenger in 2012. Now that we've got the SUV thing out of the way, let's hope Aston stays on the right course and creates cars that don't look anything like more DB9 clones. Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , SUVs , Wagons/Estates , Geneva Motor Show , Aston Martin , Rendered Speculation When we recently posted on Aston Martin dragging Lagonda out of its crypt, one of the assertions was that "they've reportedly ruled out the possibility of a sport-ute." That might have been nothing more than a semantic turn, as Car & Driver is reporting that the first Lagonda will be "something SUV-ish." Aston Martin CEO Ulrich Bez said the new car will have historical influences at the same time as it is "future-orientated," but the giveaway for C&D seems to be in his line that it will be "truly versatile" and "suitable for both existing and emerging markets." We can't tell if anyone actually came out and told the mag that the car would be an SUV, but an Aston source is quoted as saying it "wouldn't be an SUV in the same way as BMW X5." So back to the semantics of no "sport-ute"...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Maserati Click above to view high-res gallery of the IED Maserati Chicane concept Geneva has been good to Maserati. Last year the company unveiled the GranTurismo to thunderous applause, and followed up this year with the more powerful GranTurismo S . Meanwhile, the students of the Instituto Europeo di Design unveiled their Maserati Chicane concept , which won out over rival designs to win sponsorship and a spot under the bright lights of the Geneva Motor Show to show their talent to the world. We caught up with the IED graduate design students and found our cameras snapping away at the striking concept. Although certain details aren't likely to find their way onto a production Trident, with the design chiefs from Maserati and Fiat AG on the selecting jury, we wouldn't be all that surprised to see some similarities when Maserati eventually unleashes its anticipated new sportscar. Check out the video in our previous...

Filed under: Convertibles , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show Click above for a high-res gallery of the production KTM X-Bow. A year ago, we had our first formal introduction to the KTM X-Bow concept. After a scant 12 months, the famed motorcycle manufacturer has officially unveiled the production version of the X-Bow, and over 2,000 people have lined up to get their hands on one of the most driver-focused vehicles to be released since the introduction of the Ariel Atom. Not much has changed from the original concept. The same Audi-sourced, 220 hp TFSI four-cylinder engine is mounted out back and with only 1,500 pounds holding the carbon fiber track tool back, the sprint to 60 comes up in 3.9 seconds. KTM has smoothed out some of the rough edges, including the exhaust/intake systems, added a fully adjustable suspension and tweaked the bodywork and cockpit, but it's still minimalist motoring at its finest. Back in 2007 we called it better than the best rollercoaster around , and one year...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupes , Hybrids/Alternative , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show Click the image above for a hi-res gallery of the Morgan LifeCar For a company that still makes cars out of wood, Morgan knows not only how to hang in there, but to come up with some really neat stuff. The LifeCar divides a line that reaches well into the past and well into the future. Its lines are retro modern -- or is that modern retro? -- with all the traditional early-20th-century coupe cues done in aluminum. The hydrogen powerplant is theoretically good for a 200-mile range and "sporting" British performance. Check out the press release for the full details, and be sure to look at the gallery of hi-res images below. Filed under: Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Lotus Click above for a gallery of the Lotus Europa SE. As we reported earlier, Lotus has a new range of Europas for 2008 , at least in their eponymous market. Still not coming to the States as far as we've heard, but with the "Eagle" already soaring, we think we can wait. Not that the Europa is a bad car, but the new model should be even better. Until the Eagle lands, however, the European market still has the perfectly adequate Europa and a new Europa SE. The Europa SE is here in Geneva and it has some spiffy new wheels, 17-inch in front, 18-inch out back. It's painted in a sort of monochrome fashion that makes us think of the '80s for some reason too. There's also a real (for Lotus at least) interior that is swathed in leather. The idea was to make it a bit more comfortable for the few people who are thinking of purchasing one. The car's 2.0L turbo four remains basically the same, but here it's tuned to 225...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Green , Lotus Click above for a high-res gallery of the Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel We posted about this latest Exige a couple of days ago and just saw it in Geneva. Not a lot different on the outside really besides the paint scheme that helps us remember that this is in fact a Tri-Fuel capable Exige 270E . Even the inside has the green and yellow stripe motif slathered liberally throughout the cockpit. The base Exige was already a great example of how a high performance car could still be environmentally friendly by keeping it light and fun. Now Lotus is showing off their ability to take that concept and turn it up to eleven. Or 270, rather. This Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel concept pumps out 270 hp on methanol, and can also run on gasoline or ethanol. So not only is it the most powerful Exige ever sold by Lotus, but it's also the most ambi-fuelish too. Anyway, look at the pics and remember that it's fast and fun and feel-good all in one...

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Supercars , Bugatti Click above for hi-res gallery of the Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermes The press release says "This car's greatest strength is its ability to make you feel like a child again (a somewhat boisterous child, admittedly)." We can't agree enough. Who among us doesn't have childhood tales of doing 200-plus in our €1.55 million toys? This blogger used to do it all the time -- no, really, all the time, 'cause I was really boisterous -- and I am sure I'm not alone. Hyperbole aside, it's a Bugatti, and that makes it exquisite. And frankly, even if you aren't a fan of Hermes, they do amazing work, which, incredibly, makes the Bug even more exquisite. The "H"-logoed wheels and the fitted bag are spot on. The Hermes engraved fuel filler door could be over the top, but one loses any sense of O.T.T. after flying by the $2 million mark. But hey, if we're all feeling like kids...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Maserati Click above image for a high-res gallery of the Maserati Gran Turismo S. As we reported it would be last week, the Maserati Gran Turismo S was on it's way to Geneva and we've finally had some time to caress it with our lens. Featuring the same 4.7-liter 440HP V8 engine developed for the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione, this updated Maser won't take a backseat to its pricier and swoopier cousin any more. Okay, maybe it will considering it actually HAS a backseat. The upgraded engine is mated to an electro-actuated MC-Shift gearbox mounted on the rear transaxle for optimized weight distribution and faster shifting times. Maserati even put a demo version on display with the car so we could see the improvements firsthand. Going is one thing, stopping another. To that end, Brembo has supplied an upsized brake package, the same one in fact, that is seen on the Quattroporte Sport GT S. It features those trick front brakes that are dual...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , BMW Click the image above for more hi-res shots of the carbon-heavy BMW 1-Series performance parts P. T. Barnum already answered how many people you could fit in an itty bitty car. BMW is now trying to figure out how much carbon you can fit into the same. The BMW 1-Series performance parts will keep carbon weavers in business for some time (we figure they'll be quite popular). The only sizable component not made out of carbon was the silencer, and no one will see that after it's installed. If nothing else, it could be the best and most agreeable way to raise your carbon footprint. It's a shame about that hood, though... Check out the gallery of hi-res photos below. Filed under: Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Mercedes Benz Click the image above for more hi-res shots of the SL63 Two doors, no top, red leather interior, ceramic brakes, and 538 horses is a combination you once expected to be named for an Italian city or racing personage. No more. And while the alpha-numeric SL63 might not be all that Germanic in itself, it gets no more Teutonic than the hyphenated moniker "Mercedes-Benz" that precedes it. Now that Merc is making cars as fast as those of its Latin neighbor, perhaps the SL63 -- being a tad more comfortable -- is the car you drive to go check on the progress of your bespoke Italian supercar. Filed under: Convertibles , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , BMW Click the above photo for more shots of the M3 Convertible BMW was highlighting its green credentials today, so it gave no more than a mention to the M3 Cabriolet -- but that doesn't mean the M3 went unloved. The impossibly blue convertible sat just around the corner from the Vision Hybrid in the spotlight, brooding, but with plenty of press-type friends taking pictures and asking questions. Have a look at the live shots in the gallery below to see why. Gallery: Geneva 2008: BMW M3 Cabriolet Gallery: 2009 BMW M3 Convertible Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Volkswagen Click image above for live shots of the production Scirocco Walking around the Geneva Motor Show this morning, we spotted the production 2009 Volkswagen Scirocco . Actually there were three of them: A white one and two red examples. Although not as outrageous as the IROC Concept, it's still a wild looking ride. The Pokemon snout is gone, and surprisingly, so is the double-decker grille. What is left is a hot little coupe that basically looks like an Audi A3 three-door with styling more reminiscent of something from Alfa Romeo. A squashed R32 is another way of thinking of it, but in a tasteful way. The new coupe will be in European showrooms by late summer starting at 21,750 euros in the home market. Full press release after the jump, but enough chit-chat, check out the pics. Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrids/Alternative , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Euro , Green , Lotus Click above for a high-res gallery of the Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel While assorted activists, politicians and random individuals carry on about the spectres of global warming, imported oil, CO 2 emissions and other issues that combine to create timetable-free doomsday scenarios, there are people working on potential solutions that do not involve us driving around four-wheeled Segway scooters. That's right: the "dreaded" internal combustion engine might yet provide the answer -- or at least an answer. And because Lotus is the entity searching for the answer in this particular case, the end result might not only be green -- it looks ridiculously fun, too. The car you see here is the Geneva-bound Lotus Exige 270E Tri-Fuel concept, the successor to 2006's Exige 265E , which made 265 horses running on E85. The 270E goes a step further. Not only can it run on gasoline or ethanol...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Geneva Motor Show , Supercars , Alfa Romeo The saga of whether Bertone will or will not be at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show to debut its Alfa Romeo B.A.T. 11 concept is over. Automotive News Europe is reporting that the Italign design house will display the vehicle you see above in Geneva, just not at the Palexpo where the auto show is taking place. Bertone's Vice Chairperson Marie-Jeanne Bertone told AN that her mother Lilli, who is also Bertone's Chairperson, had cancelled the company's booth at the Geneva show. Unfortunately, it's not yet known where within the city limits of Geneva the car will debut. We assume it will be a shady part of town and a password might be required to get in. Despite the highly unorthodox unveiling, the B.A.T. 11 looks every bit as dynamic as the original B.A.T. concepts from which it takes inspiration. Being that it's based on the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione platform, it probably goes like...
