  • FIA-GT1 Nissan GT-R spied, LeMans specs rumored

Filed under: Motorsports , Sports/GTs , Japan , Supercars , Nissan Click above for a high-res gallery of the Nissan GT-R FIA-GT1 Japan's Auto Sport magazine has procured a handful of shots and some preliminary specs on the FIA-GT1-ready Nissan GT-R , and judging by the modifications and performance stats, Nissan is planning an all-out assault on the series and a possible campaign at LeMans. In order to get the GT-R up to snuff, NISMO has fitted the super coupe with a full body kit, GT-style wing, plexiglass windows, upgraded brakes, wheels and ducting, along with a hood reminiscent of the unit fitted on the SuperGT GT500 class GT-R. Informed speculation says that Nissan has ditched the twin-turbo'd 3.8-liter V6 in favor of a V8, possibly the 4.5-liter VK45DE used on the SuperGT racer. The Nissan GT-R LM is rumored to be putting out 542 hp and 448 lb-ft of torque with a curb weight of 3,417 pounds and a price tag somewhere in the ballpark of 18,000,000 yen, or just under $200k US...
  • Nissan introducing new owners to their GT-Rs at the Nurburgring

Filed under: Motorsports , Sports/GTs , Euro , Supercars , Nissan Click above to view hi-res gallery of the Nissan GT-R Academy With a 7:29 lap time, Nissan contends its GT-R is the King of the 'Ring. What better place, then, to introduce the new supercar to its European owners than the track infamously known as the Green Hell? In conjunction with the Silverstone International racing school, Nissan is taking some 1,300 European GT-R customers to the Nurburgring over the course of 19 days to take ownership of their vehicles with some performance driving tutelage. The program at the 'Ring follows a similar one held for 500 British customers at Silverstone, the former host of the British Grand Prix. According to Nissan and Silverstone International, about half of the participants had taken some sort of advanced driving course before, but the overwhelming majority of them said the GT-R Academy was the best they'd experienced. We're still waiting for Nissan NA to offer something...
  • Stock Nissan GT-R fares well in One Lap

Filed under: Motorsports , Sports/GTs , Nissan Photo by Mary Seelhorst Slightly over shadowed by all the drama surrounding the Vanishing Point Dodge Challenger , Car and Driver competed in the 2008 One Lap of America event behind the wheel of a stock Nissan GT-R. Typically a magazine editor going for an extended joy ride in a pre-production sports car isn't expected to severely push the vehicle's limits, which is why Tony Swan cruised to a decent 11th place overall finish in the event. Not a bad placement, but also apparently not good enough for some, as interested internet anti-fanboys have taken the opportunity to criticize the car based on its performance in the vent. However, the negative commentators neglected to take into account the seriousness of the top vehicles and their veteran drivers. After spending one-on-one quality time with the GT-R, Mr. Swan also sings a slightly different song than some. He agrees that it is blistering quick, but maybe not as easy to drive as...
  • SuperGT: Nissan GT-R takes First and Second in Round 1 at Suzuka

Filed under: Motorsports , Sports/GTs , Japan , Nissan Click above for a high-res gallery from the SuperGT season opener. Nissan GT-Rs first hit the track in 1969, and won their inauguaral race. 23 years later the R32 GT-R race car won its first Japanese GT Championship race at the first attempt, and yesterday at Suzuka, the Xanavi NISMO R35 driven by Benoit Trulyer and Satoshi Motoyama continued the tradition by taking round one of the 2008 Super GT Championship. Trulyer, who was also one of the drivers who took the R34 GT-R to victory in its last appearence in Japanese GT in 2003, reckoned that his new car is more stable than its predessor, the Super GT Z, and thus much easier to drive on the limit, but has lost a little in terms of top speed, which may hurt the GT-R's chances when it visits the world's longest straight at Fuji Speedway in May and November. Unless the GT association take exception to the GT-R's dominance this race and impose extraordinary penalties on the...
  • Gozilla goes on a diet: VIDEO of GT-R race car mule, V-Spec details surface

Filed under: Aftermarket , Motorsports , Tuners , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Nissan We've reported previously on both a club racer and a V-Spec version of the Nissan GT-R, and it's now apparent that they are both very different beasts. The V-Spec variant will be in the same mold as the previous versions offered, with Japan's Best Car citing a 220-pound diet, 30 more horsepower with upgraded binders and suspension components. The racing version, previously shown in spy shots , is equipped with a full roll cage, a significantly revised suspension and a nice set of Volk TE37s that are also featured in last week's Best Car article. When we'll be seeing either version is an open question, but we've got video of the production-based racer making the rounds and Best Car's spec scan after the jump .
