  • UK site offering two Dodge Avengers for price of one

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , UK The Dodge Avenger wasn't exactly selling like hotcakes here in the US, even before the auto market took a nosedive. We can't imagine the Avenger ever sold well overseas as an export to the UK, and the under-developed Dodge's newest incentive supports our assertion. Car-buyers in the Kingdom can pick up a nicely equipped Avenger SXT 2.4 saloon at the MSRP of £18,255. As a reward for taking the Avenger off the dealer's hands, they'll get a second Avenger free of charge. Broadspeed.com is offering the buy one, get one sale with the aim of easing the massive amounts of stock dealers are carrying right now. The problem isn't exclusive to the Avenger, though, as many dealers are sitting on six month inventories due to slow sales on the island. Given the massive problems selling cars in the UK, the deals on the Avenger still stand out as incredible. Maybe Dodge dealers here in the US...
  • VIDEO: Transporter 3 trailer #2 shows more Audi A8 co-star

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Audi , Celebrities Lionsgate has released the second trailer showcasing that buff delivery guy with the English accent, and if you thought Transporter 2 was an all-out sprint on the ludicrous side, wait until you get a load of the stunts in Transporter 3 . It not only shows off more of Statham's body and his 1-liner prowess, it also shows off more bad dialogue, more absurd stunts, and more reasons why it's Crank but with a bracelet and an Audi. It will clearly be a movie where you put your brain down in the seat next to you and then load up on greasy popcorn and root beer with wide-eyed glee. But that doesn't mean we won't see it. Check out the trailer after the jump, and mark your calendars for November 26. • The Bubbly: Veuve Clicquot edition Bentley S3

Filed under: Time Warp , Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Bentley , Special/Limited Editions Click for hi-res gallery of the Veuve Clicquot edition Bentley S3 In case the Grey Goose edition Rolls-Royce Phantom wasn't your poison, champagne label Veuve Clicquot , the same French vineyard that teamed up with Porsche Design for that unique refrigerator , has crafted this one-of-a-kind 1966 Bentley S3. The S3 model was produced between 1962 and 1965, and was differentiated from the S2 largely by its distinct four-headlamp nose. The Veuve Clicquot edition, meanwhile, has a distinctive yellow and black paintjob and remains largely stock and true to the original... save for the addition of a satellite navigation system. The car belongs to Edouard de Nazelle, a descendant of one of the vineyard's founders, and apart from serving as an elegant transport for its noble owner, it doubles as a promotional tool for the company's carbonated elixir. • Ford Fusion Raptors Edition gets benched

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Ford , Special/Limited Editions Click the image for a hi-res gallery of the Ford Fusion Raptors Edition Ford sponsored the Toronto Raptors back in 2006, and one of the promotional ties in the deal was a special Ford Fusion Raptors Edition ( here is the promo video). The car is replete with a magical selection of colors and images on the outside, and basketball-themed colors and textures inside. Check out that b-ball steering wheel, and those seats, and the TV in the trunk that would allow you to both ruin your eyes and watch games at a truly awful angle. If nothing else, we're impressed that it took two and a half years to show up on the used car sales floor. Less surprising is the fact that it's only done 5,900 kilometers in that time. It can be all yours for $25,000 Canadian... or you can just check out the high res pictures below. Thanks for the tip, Lance! Gallery: 2006 Ford Fusion Raptors Edition [Source: Autotrader Canada...
  • VW and its dealers butting heads over Jetta TDI?

Filed under: Car Buying , Hybrids/Alternative , Sedans/Saloons , Wagons/Estates , Green , Marketing/Advertising , Volkswagen We recently received a note from an anonymous source indicating that there's a mildly strained relationship between VW and some of its dealers. The source of the consternation seems to be the highly anticipated Jetta TDI , which was just recently released in the U.S. market. Apparently, Volkswagen of America has gotten complaints that some dealers are adding a significant markup on the new and desirable model -- a big problem for many automakers when a new model makes its initial introduction. The dealers are eager to make some money on the new cars while VW is concerned that customers may just look elsewhere because they feel they're being treated unfairly. What's more, some VW dealers may not be all that excited by the new model as there aren't that many available quite yet. This is a situation that's frustrating for the dealers, VW and, most...
  • Lincoln books 8,600 preorders for MKS

Filed under: Car Buying , Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Ford , Lincoln Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Lincoln MKS The first 2009 Lincoln MKS is still a couple months away from arriving at your local Lincoln dealer, but Ford has announced that 8,600 customers have already signed up for the all-new sedan. The MKS has garnered this hefty dose of interest no doubt due to Lincoln's new design language, its well-crafted interior and large number of high-tech gizmos, but Ford's marketing team deserves some credit, too. They began their work announcing the sedan's starting price of $37,895 way back in November during the L.A. Auto Show , then followed up by giving would-be customers early access to a build and price tool on the Lincoln website. The marketing team is also reportedly training dealerships to be knowledgeable about the MKS months ahead of the usual timetable, which has helped salesmen secure preorders for the vehicle sight-unseen. Preorders traditionally...
  • Honda building up to big sequel for famous "Cog" commercial

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Wagons/Estates , Euro , Marketing/Advertising , Honda Click above to view teaser videos after the jump Honda's famous "Cog" commercial proved that the process of making something cool is often more interesting than the cool thing itself. The Japanese automaker is going to try and wow our socks off again with a new commercial coming in June for the launch of the redesigned European Honda Accord (the same vehicle launched in the original "Cog" commercial), and in advance of its debut will be airing four short teaser ads. The teaser ads will document the process of Honda's endeavor, called "Difficult is Worth Doing" (it has its own blog ), and chronicle five days of shooting at The Perris Skydive Centre in California. That's right, we know the final commercial will involve 45 of the world's best sky divers doing some of the most complicated aerial formations ever attempted, but that's about it. The teaser ads are...
  • Hyundai to spend $80m on Genesis sedan launch, pre-sales top 700 so far

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Hyundai Hyundai has big plans for its luxury Genesis sedan , and the Korean automaker is willing to pony up $80m to get the word out. Rich appointments, rear-wheel-drive, a choice of powerful engines, and a starting price of $30k is a good story to sell customers on, and the Genesis sedan is being looked at as the halo car in Hyundai's lineup. That helps justify spending the most launch money on any Hyundai ever, even though only 30,000 Genesis sedans are scheduled to be sold per year. Genesis marketing begins with a 15-city tour involving about 100 sedans, and will include television ads plus the Internet and plenty of viral events. We're very anxious to see if Hyundai can deliver a legitimate Lexus GS competitor for over $10,000 less, and if the Genesis is as good as advertised, the $80m will be money well spent. Hit the jump to see the Hyundai Genesis sedan Super Bowl commercials. [Source: Auto News (subs req'd)] Continue...
  • VIDEO: Cirque du Soleil commercial interrupted by Audi RS6

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Audi From the some-automakers-have-more-money-than-sense department comes a new commercial for the Audi RS6 . The minute-long teaser spot features some kind of synchronized gymnastics routine that we guess is supposed to signify a bunch of people working together like a finely tuned machine. We think there are some gymnasts imitating the pistons in the blisteringly fast RS6 V10, and there was a human crankshaft and some headlights too, but it's hard to tell with it being people in tights and all. The last three seconds is the first indication that this is a car commercial, as the front end of the sledge hammer RS6 is finally shown. We know it's a teaser ad, but next time we'd like to see a little more sheet metal and a lot less flesh. Besides, didn't Ford just do the people as cars thing a couple months ago? Hit the jump to view the minute-long commercial, then let us know what you think in the comments. [Source...
  • Charge! GM gives update on Volt development, describes interior

Filed under: Garage , Hybrids/Alternative , Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Tech , Chevrolet If the Chevy Volt were a 150 mpg dairy cow, the General's marketing department would have a hand on every utter. The Volt is still more than two years from production, and the series hybrid is all over the Internet, TV, and magazines. When a vehicle promises as much as the Volt does, though, any update is big news. This time, engineers have come up with a computer algorithm to accelerate battery durability testing. The test increases battery testing from ten years to two by duplicating real-life vehicle speed and cargo-carrying conditions in a controlled environment while constantly recharging the batteries. The next step for the Volt is test mules that can put GM's e-Flex system through more unpredictable conditions like snow storms and Michigan potholes. Since the Volt's 375-pound battery pack resides down the center of the car and beneath its rear seats, GM had some unique...
  • VIDEO: Pontiac G8 embarrasses BMW 5-Series in internet ad

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Marketing/Advertising , BMW , Pontiac Click above to view video This is the part where we say, "Oh, snap!" An interesting internet video hosted on the PontiacIsCAR YouTube channel , which makes it at least semi-official, pits the Pontiac G8 GT against the BMW 550i in a 1-minute, 21-second-long homage to the quick cut. Seriously, we've seen MTV promos that keep an image onscreen longer than this video. Obviously, the G8 GT is made to look good in this epileptic seizure-inducing vid, coming in at half the price than the BMW, but being faster, more powerful and offering more interior space. It's a clever vid, though not as good as the Pontiac G8 Spy Hunter commercial , which is awesome on an epic scale. Rather, this little ad goes after the Bavarian brand with a blatant disregard for the premium image that BMW has earned over the years by actually building the Ultimate Driving Machine in every segment that it competes. Sure, BMWs...
  • Toyota's racing investments finally paying off?

Filed under: Motorsports , Sedans/Saloons , Trucks/Pickups , Marketing/Advertising , Toyota Click above for high-res gallery from Kobalt Tools 500 Toyota is hoping that there is some life left in the old adage, "Win on Sunday, sell on Monday." While we can't imagine many NASCAR fans driving off the showroom floor in a brand new Camry because of Toyota's 1-2 finish at the Kobalt Tools 500, they do have a few full-size Tundra pickups that could use some help rolling out of dealer's lots. Toyota realizes this, and Les Unger, national motorsports manager of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., notes that there are upcoming NASCAR races in pickup-rich areas like the Midwest, Southeast and Southwest, and Toyota also competes in the Craftsman Truck Series. We can expect to see plenty of NASCAR-specific marketing coming out of Toyota in the near future to promote its historic win, and with industry-giant Joe Gibbs behind Toyota's future NASCAR success, expect to see more of the...
  • VIDEO: Pontiac G8 invades Spy Hunter, circa 1983

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Pontiac Click above to view commercial after jump Before all you East Coasters go to lunch, we had to show you what in our estimation is the BEST car commercial of the year so far. Pontiac knows its demographic well when it combines our lust for classic video games with our deep desire for cheap horsepower and rear-wheel-drive sport sedans. For a guy in his late twenties (like myself), hearing the intro from Baltic Midway's Spy Hunter triggers a pavlovian response that's too great to resist. Keep watching as the 2-D sprites you remember from the Reagan era tilt into the glorious third dimension, and instead of the G-6155 Interceptor you're expecting, out of the semi tractor trailer backs a Pontiac G8 . To our addled minds warped by video games for over two decades now, the commercial proves emphatically that the G8 can outclass fictitious bad guy cars. Score one for Pontiac, consider us engaged. • Interest in Chevy Malibu sets record for domestic mid-sizer

Filed under: Car Buying , Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Chevrolet , Honda The 2008 Chevy Malibu has already taken home some prestigious hardware in the form of the 2008 North American Car of the Year award, and now it seems to be winning over midsize car buyers in an important metric. The Malibu has attracted so many vehicle prospects that, according to compete.com , it has been the most shopped midsize vehicle in the U.S. three months in a row. The Bu's accomplishment is the first time a domestic automaker has ever lead this metric in the hotly contested midsize segment, dusting domestic competition like the Ford Fusion by a 5 to 1 ratio. Over 236,000 shopped the Malibu in December alone, which is a 247% increase over October, and more than twice the shopping rate than the all new 2008 Honda Accord . The Accord is still winning the actual sales battle at dealerships, and the data shows that nearly 80% of Malibu shoppers are just browsers, as opposed to just over 50% for...
  • VIDEO: Cadillac CTS-V promo film

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Cadillac , GM , Driving Click above to view video The 2009 Cadillac CTS-V appears to have the power and performance to take on the best that Germany has to offer, and GM's marketing team is just itching for the chance to brag about it. Following the jump is a two minute long tribute to the most powerful production Cadillac ever built. If we're not mistaken, this is the same video that was shown right before the car was driven onstage at the Detroit Auto Show last month. Built on a bass-heavy sound track, the CTS-V intro video is a series of close-ups followed by power slides and quick track cuts, with graphic after graphic boasting about the many virtues of Caddy's 550-hp sedan. Considering the total package, we'd brag too. Thanks for the tip, Zeyad!
