Filed under: Concept Cars , Sedans/Saloons , Auction Action , Bentley , Special/Limited Editions Click above for gallery of the 1983 Mentley Insanne Turbo Andy Saunders has been responsible for some off-the-wall creations - like the Aurora , the chopped-down Fiat lowrider and the Hyundai ice cream van - but this one makes us wonder if he didn't take the car's title to heart. Called the Mentley Insanne, the custom rod is based on a 1983 Bentley Mulsanne, a fairly staid but powerful limousine with a 6.75-liter turbo V8 that Saunders evidently felt could use some extra flash. So he chopped the roof, tacked on some Range Rover parts (notice the headlights and side gills), the panoramic glass roof from an old Mercedes SL, dropped the suspension on some 20-inch dubs and crafted some custom aero bits. The one-off creation was recently sold at the RM Automobiles of London auction for £18,700, several grand under estimates and undoubtedly less than it cost Saunders to make the thing...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Supercars , Bentley , Bugatti , Rumormill The whisperers have it that Bugatti may be borrowing from Bentley for a new sedan. What they can't seem to pinpoint is exactly what kind of sharing the two marques will be doing, and whether or not the resulting super Bug will be a supremely high-powered four-door to compete with the Rolls-Royce Phantom. If the two brands do indeed share something, like the next Arnage's platform , for instance, that might make sense. But just a few months ago, Bugatti said that its next product would be even more expensive than the Veyron , and lead man Josef Paefgen has also said that there will be no inexpensive Bugatti. A $400,000 sedan wouldn't be inexpensive, true, but compared to $1.6 million for a Veyron, it's a flat-out bargain. Besides, the $242,000 Arnage T, after all the bespoke options, would come perilously close to a $400K Bugatti in price, and the next Bentley Arnage is growing in order to fight the Phantom...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Auction Action , Bentley , Lincoln Click above for gallery of the Lincoln Town Car(nage) When is a 1996 Lincoln Town Car with 114,000 miles on the clock worth $15,098? The correct answer should be never . In this case, however, the answer is when someone supposedly drops $45,000 worth of work into one to make a fake Bentley Arnage. The result is what you see above; add a couple of fender-mounted chandeliers and it could score a role as The Duke's car in Escape From New York . That giant C-pillar is more Rolls than Bentley and those chrome dubs are more bad than good. The biggest disaster comes into view when you open the door and look inside. That interior reportedly cost $10,000. You'd think that amount would buy more than quilted leather, a passel of winged-B emblems that aren't fooling anybody, and that stock instrument panel, but apparently... no. Anyway, somebody liked it enough to buy it, so what do we know. We're sure it'll look great...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Paris Motor Show , Bentley Click above to view high-res gallery of the Bentley Arnage Final Series Speaking as someone who has driven more than his fair share of Bentleys , I can say that although the brand's Continental series is the way of the future, the more expensive and stately Arnage is still a benchmark to be respected. Bentley has announced that it will debut the Arnage Final Series at next month's Paris Motor Show , thereby confirming for the first time that the current model's ten-year run is about to end. Only 150 of these special Arnage models will be built, and all are powered by Bentley's legendary twin-turbo 6.75-liter V8 producing 500 bhp and 738 lb-ft of torque, which also happens to be celebrating its 50-year anniversary in 2008. Bentley says the Final Series combines the performance of the Arnage T with the refinement of the R, and a few odd features are thrown in like a rear cocktail cabinet with a Final Series stainless...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Sedans/Saloons , Bentley The latest Bentley Arnage is doing the rounds in Spain, but it isn't the sedan's appearance that's news, it's how it might be powered. As far as cosmetic bodywork, the changes appear minimal, including new fog light placement, rear apron and exhaust exit. A little more substantially, the car is widened at the B-pillar, which should finally give back bench passengers the kind of room that befits a Bentley sedan. Exterior and interior tweaks aside, what's under the hood is where things are supposedly cracking. Rumors that we can only guess are highly speculative suggest that the coming Arnage will get a diesel engine. We're not sure if those rumor-mongers got the memo a month ago in which Bentley CEO Josef Paefgen stated there will be no diesel Bentleys . But supposing one of Rudolph's children was dropped in that massive engine bay, suspects are Audi's V12 TDI for the standard model, and the Veyron's W16...

Filed under: Time Warp , Sedans/Saloons , Marketing/Advertising , Bentley , Special/Limited Editions Click for hi-res gallery of the Veuve Clicquot edition Bentley S3 In case the Grey Goose edition Rolls-Royce Phantom wasn't your poison, champagne label Veuve Clicquot , the same French vineyard that teamed up with Porsche Design for that unique refrigerator , has crafted this one-of-a-kind 1966 Bentley S3. The S3 model was produced between 1962 and 1965, and was differentiated from the S2 largely by its distinct four-headlamp nose. The Veuve Clicquot edition, meanwhile, has a distinctive yellow and black paintjob and remains largely stock and true to the original... save for the addition of a satellite navigation system. The car belongs to Edouard de Nazelle, a descendant of one of the vineyard's founders, and apart from serving as an elegant transport for its noble owner, it doubles as a promotional tool for the company's carbonated elixir. Therefore, it might make some sense for the German-owned British luxury marque to consider one of the VW Group's big, powerful turbodiesels for one of its upcoming models. Not so fast, says Bentley. It has specifically polled its customer base -- made up mostly of Americans and Asians -- to determine if there's any interest in an oil-burning Bentley. Apparently, there isn't. Instead, the luxo-barge company will focus on biofuels in an effort to lower the fuel consumption and emissions of a numbers of its models. As a matter of fact, the first flex-fuel engine from the Flying B is expected to debut in 2009 and Franz-Josef Paefgen, Bentley's Chief Executive, says that all of its models will be capable of running on biofuels by 2012 as part of its plan to go British Racing green. Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Bentley , Rendered Speculation The next Bentley Arnage is due in 2010, and thank heavens it won't be a biggie-sized clone of the Continental Flying Spur. That means we don't expect it to look so much like the rendering above, which is 75-percent Flying Spur with a GT tail. A bit long-in-the-tooth by modern replacement standards, the Arnage still sells about 600 - 800 units per year, which is not far behind the much newer Rolls-Royce Phantom. The next Arnage will take advantage of Audi's spaceframe technology, which will ultimately be utilized by every car in the range. With a 150-kg-plus drop in the car's weight, your gas mileage should improve to a number you still won't care about if you can afford a Bentley. Engine choices will remain in the all-gasoline family. Bentley says that there simply isn't demand for a diesel in one of its cars, and it's not going to put one out there to try and stimulate it. It might --...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Sedans/Saloons , Bentley click above for high-res gallery of LWB Bentley Arnage spy shots While Bentley continues to achieve sales success with its Continental line of cars that includes the GT, Flying Spur, GTC and new GT Speed, the upper-level Arnage line has been left to get by on its old world charm and bespoke everything hand-built construction. We showed you some spy shots of the next-gen Arnage back in April that suggests Bentley may position the next-gen Arnage as a direct competitor to the Rolls-Royce Phantom, and whether that's the case or not, the next Arnage will most certainly continue catering to the wealthiest 1% of the world. A super extra long version of the Arnage was recently spotted by KGP photographers with an extra 18 inches of wheelbase, and while Bentley already offers the LWB Arnage RL model, this particular car eclipses that and then some to firmly land in limousine territory. In other words, it's not a car drive, it's a car...

Filed under: Tuners , Sedans/Saloons , Bentley Click above for high-res gallery of RENNTECH's handiwork You may remember my little hissy fit last week over RENNTECH using our photos of a Bentley Continental Flying Spur taken when the Flying B was in the Autoblog Garage two years ago. We and the graphic designer over at RENNTECH have since patched things up, aided in no small part by his flattery of my photos and me being a sucker for compliments. Taking our advice, the RENNTECH folk quit shopping in the Google Images section of the store, parked a tastefully tuned Flying Spur next to their building and proceeded to shoot away, the results of which ain't too shabby. Their Bentley is lowered with a dark window tint and some deep dish rims as opposed to the stock one we photographed, and theirs is no doubt sporting the tuner's new ECU module for Bentley automobiles that boosts the twin-turbo W12 to 625 horsepower. You can check out RENNTECH's new pics in the gallery below,...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Sedans/Saloons , Bentley Having launched the Continental GT in 2003, the four-door Continental Flying Spur in 2005, the Azure in 2006, the Continental GT Convertible in 2006 and the Brooklands earlier this year, Bentley is now turning its attention to its flagship sedan: the Arnage. Although the vehicle has been on the road since 1998, that's still nothing compared to its predecessor, which was introduced in 1980 before being replaced by the Arnage. No matter which way you cut it, though, the Arnage has just turned ten years old, and that's a long product cycle. Reports and spy shots suggest, however, that a new version is expected for 2010. There's no telling to what degree the new Arnage will be a completely new model, however sources suggest that, thanks in part to a lengthened wheelbase, Bentley will target the Rolls-Royce Phantom with its new limousine. However, previous reports have discounted the possibility of a diesel engine or Bugatti's...

Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative , Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Green , Bentley Click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 Bentley Brooklands British racing green could take on a whole new meaning if Bentley is able to achieve its goal of reducing CO 2 emissions by two-thirds to just 120 grams per kilometer by 2012. Currently, all of its vehicles emit more than 400 g/km, no doubt including the 2009 Bentley Brooklands we drove last week, so the company from Crewe has a long way to go. While we'd expect to see some sort of diesel offering, Bentley remains mum on any real details regarding its future powerplants. We do know, however, that the British manufacturer of ridiculously luxurious transportation is holding out hope for biofuels, which post high well-to-wheel CO 2 measurements. When just the tailpipe emissions are taken into consideration, biofuels offer just a little benefit as compared to dino-juice, but when the entire carbon footprint of the fuel is considered, biofuels like...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Bentley Click above to view in high resolution Bentley engines are some of the biggest, most powerful old-school units on the market, and that's not about to change. This, despite earlier reports that Crewe was considering utilizing diesel engines or even the powerplant from the Bugatti Veyron , which now appear off the table... in the short run at least. Although Bugatti and Bentley are now united under common leadership, Bugatti is rumored to be working on its own luxury limousine, so shoehorning its engine into the production Arnage could cut down its legs prematurely. As for the diesel, Bentley's position remains that customers aren't ready for oil-burning Bentleys at this point. In the short term, then, Bentley customers will just have to make do with 6.75-liter V8s and 6-liter W12s. Dang. [Source: Autoweek.nl ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Etc. , Euro , Bentley Click image for a high-res gallery There's badass, there's relentlessly badass, and then there's this. This is what happens when you dream up an idea that combines a vintage Bentley S3's coachwork and chassis with a 300-horsepower BMW 4.4L V8, a ZF 5-speed auto, a custom dual exhaust, and a deluxe interior with all the modern amenities. Tweak the look to give it the feel of a late-model Bentley, add 20-inch forged wheels, slam it to the ground and you have Arturo Alonso's Bentley S3 E design concept. Word is, Alonso and his team at Bentley Boys USA will build three of the cars over 8-month intervals to sell at $150K a pop. We want one. If it really does come to pass, this could wind up being as cool as John Fluevog's Flueguar Gallery: Bentley S3 E Design Concept [Source: World Car Fans ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Euro , Bentley , Bugatti We're all about synergies between sister companies when the result could be a Bentley Arnage powered by the Bugatti Veyron's 1,000+ horsepower quad-turbo W16 engine. That's the rumor coming out of Crewe, and we couldn't be happier to hear it. AutoCar is reporting that Bentley head honcho Franz-Josef Paefgen wants the Arnage to outgun the less expensive Continental Flying Spur again. The larger and older car is currently powered by a 6.75L V8 producing 500 HP. The Flying Spur, meanwhile, gets 552 HP from its twin-turbo W12. In order for the Arnage to trump the Flying Spur, a new engine is needed. Enter the Veyron from fellow VW/Audi Group member Bugatti. While the Veyron fits its engine like a tailored suit around a WWE Wrestler, the same powerplant in the Arnage would likely be significantly detuned. The Veyron has the benefit of all four wheels to help it hook up while the Arnage uses just its rears, so power would have to come down...
