Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , China , Volkswagen , Misc. Auto Shows Click above for a gallery of the Chinese market VW Lingyu China's already got Volkswagen's Passat in R36 guise , as well as a locally-made, Passat-derived model called the Magotan . Now it's going to have another car based on the Passat called the Lingyu. Built on a revised, long-wheelbase version of the 4-year-old PQ46 platform and using the previous-generation Passat body style, the Lingyu is shaping up to be the longest Passat sedan variant available in China. Three engines have been mentioned, along with a 15% increase in fuel efficiency: the 1.8T, 2.0 FSI, and 2.4 V6. The changes are being made by VW's Chinese partner Shanghai VW, with the aim of increasing interior space and comfort. The car should be available in Q2 of this year, and might make an appearance at next month's Shanghai Auto Show . Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , SUVs , China , Jaguar , Land Rover , Tata China just gave the folks at Tata the best news they've probably had all year: an order for 13,000 Jaguars and Land Rovers. Sources say the breakdown is 10,000 Land Rovers and 3,000 Jaguars to be delivered over the next three years. The value of the deal for Tata: £600 million. That's almost a quarter of the price Tata paid to buy the two brands from Ford last year and represents nearly 20% of JLR's tally of 251,650 global sales in 2008. It hasn't been revealed who all the cars are for, but the sale was concluded with a Chinese trade delegation visiting the UK. It's a little late, but we're sure Tata is wishing everyone a happy Chinese New Year. Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Euro , Government/Legal , Audi , Police/Emergency Switzerland, the same country whimsical enough to bring us yodeling and cuckoo clocks, takes a decidedly draconian approach when it comes to speeding. Speeding that would get you a stern talking to and a big ticket in the U.S. will get you three days in jail , a 1,000 Swiss franc fine (about $850 USD), and a fine of 20% to 35% of your net monthly salary. To watch over the potentially speeding populace, the Swiss police have added a raft of Audi S4s with laser radar to their arsenals. The black Audis with the tinted windows can detect your speed while they are driving behind you, in the opposing direction, or parked by the side of the road. If you're going to take a spin in the canton, save your wild abandon for the chocolate, restrain yourselves on the roads. Hat tip to Jerome! Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Hyundai , Canada Another trophy has been thrown at the Hyundai Genesis by the Automobile Journalists' Association of Canada: 2009 Canadian Car of the Year. To get to the top spot, the Genesis beat an odd assortment of cars , including the Audi A4 and TTS, the Lexus IS F , Mazda6 , and Mercedes CL550 and SL63 AMG . Among the other vehicles joining the Genesis on the podium: the Ford Flex took the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, and the Honda Fit snagged Best New Design. Kudos, Hyundai. Again... Filed under: Car Buying , Sedans/Saloons , Toyota Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2010 Toyota Camry Toyota has just announced prices for its facelifted-for-2010 Camry , and the best-selling sedan will range from $19,345 for a six-speed manual, four-cylinder model ($21,115 including destination charges) to $29,045 for the high-content V6 XLE automatic ($29,765 w/dest.). Hybrid buyers can expect to pay $26,150 ($26,870) before hitting the options list. Those prices represent an increase of 1.2 percent ($281), which strikes us as reasonable in light of the updated interior, exterior, and content including standard stability control. 2010 Camry units begin hitting dealers next month. Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Rolls-Royce , Rumormill Click above for a high-res gallery of RR4 spy shots Auto Telegraaf reports a tidbit on the coming Rolls-Royce 4 that would make the car something special indeed: it claims the car will cost €380,000. If true, that would make it the second priciest car in the Rolls-Royce line-up, with only the Phantom LWB a scant €20,000 ahead of it. Rolls-Royce CEO Tom Purves did say that the newest model would be " more expensive than any Bentley ," but we don't think he meant that expensive. The actual price will probably be around half of that, €190,000 in Europe, $250,000 or so in the U.S. In addition to coupe and convertible variants to follow its introduction, the car is slated to fit a wide range of powerplants for a Roller: BMW's V12 and turbocharged V8 are in the picture, and diesel and hybrid lumps are on the table. And soon we won't need to call it by its codename any more; the car is rumored to wear the...
