Filed under: Car Buying , Economy , Euro , Hatchbacks , Renault , UK If Britain follows Germany's lead and adopts a scrap-your-old-car incentive, it looks like the first company to pounce will could be Romania's Dacia. Renault, which owns Dacia, had planned to launch its brand in the U.K. last summer, but then backtracked. Thankfully, the bargain brand's fortunes improved when Germany's car scrapping incentive took effect yielding an industry-wide 21 percent jump in February sales. But Dacia didn't just manage to achieve that increase, their sales mushroomed by something like 900 percent, going from less than 100 Logans per week to more than 1000. According to Autocar , the company thinks it may be able to realize similar results if Britain, making outsized returns on its plucky, cheap-as-chips Sandero - but only if Britain's politicians green-light the initiative. Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative , Green , Nissan Out in San Diego today, the Renault-Nissan Alliance officially brought its electric vehicle world domination plan project to California. Renault-Nissan will work with local utility company San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) in a partnership "to advance zero-emission mobility by promoting the development of an electric vehicle (EV) charging network." Nissan will bring the electric cars to the U.S. next year and SDG&E will help build up the charging infrastructure. The partners will also work with local groups to get the network up and running, maintain it, and teach people how to use it. As we mentioned earlier today, the word on the street is that Nissan is " not going to be charging a premium for this car, batteries included ," for when the EV goes on sale in the U.S. in 2010. Renault-Nissan is also moving forward with EV plans in Zürich , London , and is working with Better Place in various locations...

What doesn't usually come to mind is the very first concept car from the Romanian low-cost transportation experts at Dacia. Initially shown at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month , word from Autocar now suggests that a production version of the showcar is on the way. According to the UK publication, the Duster will hit the ground running at next year's Geneva show, and it will launch with a choice of four-cylinder gas and diesel engines, as well as available all-wheel drive. Interestingly, Autocar suggests that the production crossover will likely retain the concept's trick reconfigurable seats, including a passenger seat...

Filed under: Time Warp , Sports/GTs , Euro , Hatchbacks , Renault , Special/Limited Editions While it may seem like an inopportune time to exhume a performance marque, that's just what Renault is up to, says Car . According to the U.K. glossy, Renault will relaunch the Gordini brand in Europe next year with a new Twingo variant. You may recall that it was recently revealed that the French automaker's plans to bring back its storied Alpine product line has been axed , but the decades-dormant Gordini is apparently a different matter altogether. The new lineup of hot hatches will slot in above current Renaultsport offerings, with the aforementioned Twingo reportedly being followed by Clio and Megane Coupe models. Like the Gordini-tuned cars of yore, the new models are tipped to wear blue paint and white stripes along with various performance upgrades that will make them a likely foil to Fiat's reborn Abarth lineup.
