Filed under: Recalls/TSBs , Safety , Buick , Chevrolet , GMC , Pontiac , Saturn Citing a defect that can cause a parked vehicle to roll away, General Motors is recalling 277,000 cars and trucks. The models involved, all built for the 2009 model year, may have a loose clip on their transmission shift cable. The failure of the clip to be locked into place may prevent the transmission from moving into Park - even if the driver moves the shift lever into the proper position. GM has told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that dealers will inspect the transmission shift cable and replace broken units. Affected models include the Buick Enclave , Chevrolet Cobalt , Chevrolet HHR , Chevrolet Malibu , Chevrolet Traverse , GMC Acadia, Pontiac G5, Pontiac G6 , Saturn Aura and Saturn Outlook. Filed under: Car Buying , Sedans/Saloons , Dodge , Pontiac Click above for a high-res gallery of the Pontiac G8 GXP (without the star bursts) The automotive industry may be in a pickle right now, but the current recession has made for an incredible buyer's market, particularly for anyone who wants a bargain on a performance car. We've seen some pretty amazing deals, like $18,995 for a brand new Mustang GT , and now both General Motors and Chrysler are offering enticing incentives for the Pontiac G8 GXP and Dodge Charger SRT8, respectively. The G8 GXP, already a steal at $37,610, is available with $3,000 cash back in some areas. With a $1,700 gas guzzler tax, the total comes to just $36,310. The Charger SRT8 is an even better deal with its $41,120 MSRP (including gas guzzler tax and destination) dropped all the way to $34,516 after Employee Pricing and $3,000 in cash-back bonuses. Of course, many of the cash-back deals are regional and some are only for brand loyalists or require...

Filed under: Time Warp , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Etc. , Videos , Pontiac , Celebrities , Special/Limited Editions Click above to see the trailer for Smokey and the Bandit 4 No, this isn't real. That said, there are some snippets in here that appear to have had some kind of budget when they were shot. We can't place where all these clips were sourced from, but YouTuber Ryanassert did a good job of stringing them all together into something cohesive. Then there's that cover of Jerry Reed's "Eastbound and Down." You'll either love it or hate its neo-punk-pop styling, but who cares when you're looking at clips of Year One's modern Bandits spliced with the finest seasonings of Buford T. Justice's nuggets of wisdom. If this video doesn't inspire you to spend the next three hours on YouTube searching out Bandit clips, there's something wrong with you. When you're done with the Bandit trailer, there's other fanboi fantasies for Knight Rider...

Filed under: Pontiac , Holden , Australia Police agencies across the United States are chock full of Crown Victoria cruisers. In all, there are over 80,000 Crown Vics on patrol, but the generations-old cruiser is finally getting consigned to history within the next year. That leaves a huge opening to any company that has a suitable replacement, and an Australian company thinks it has what it takes. Melbourne's National Safety Agency is working on newer, safer and more efficient technology for large markets like the US, UK and Canada, and they have a very solid partner in Holden. Holden builds both the Commodore and the Pontiac G8, giving the NSA both left and right hand drive RWD vehicles with powerful engine options. The very capable GM models also adhere to safety and emissions standards in several high volume markets. The NSA has built a Pontiac G8 police cruiser prototype for an upcoming meeting with the LAPD and the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials, with several...

Filed under: Tuners , Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Pontiac , Special/Limited Editions It seems that no amount of controversy will prevent SLP ( Street Legal Performance ) from launching its latest Firehawk , this time based on the Pontiac G8 GT . Prior to this model, all previous Firehawk packages were fitted to the Firebird, a fact that has a number of SLP purists rather upset. Before we get to the specifications, perhaps we should remind Firebird fans that it could be worse: At least they didn't choose to revive the Firehawk name on a version of the new Camaro, right? As for the car, it sounds like a pretty nice package. To the stock V8 engine, SLP adds a supercharger that's similar to the one featured on the jaw-dropping Corvette ZR1, a stainless exhaust system and a cold air induction system. All that's good for an impressive 500 horsepower. Other mods include new 19-inch alloys painted up in gun metal gray and a sport suspension package. The car's most striking design...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Pontiac Click above for high-res image gallery of the Pontiac G8 GT The Pontiac G8 has received mainly positive reviews since it first hit roads here in the U.S. last year. Unfortunately, what it hasn't gotten a lot of is actual sales. The usual combination of high gas prices in the first half of 2008 and the financial crisis in the second half has hit the G8 particularly hard. It looks like Pontiac will give the G8 almost the same treatment as it gave the Saturn Astra . While Saturn chose to skip the entire 2009 model year because of the high number of left-over '08 Astras they still had on hand, the 2009 G8 is at least being built, but barely. According to an insider at the GM Source, it now appears that Feb-June 2009 production volumes of the G8 are being cut from a planned 10,000 units to under 1,000. That's a 97% reduction versus projection, and July-October volumes are evidently also being cut by 79% from earlier production schedules. As much...

Filed under: SUVs , Crossovers/CUVs , GMC , Pontiac Anyone that's ever driven a Ford Crown Victoria in four inches of snow will tell you that the generations-old police interceptor doesn't exactly grip when sitting atop the white stuff. That can leave police just as stranded as the motorists they're out to need help. Coast Pontiac GMC in Portsmouth, New Hampshire provides the solution to the local fuzz's problem by loaning out SUVs during big storms. The generous dealer has been providing this public service for over 18 years, and we're not talking used junkers with 4WD. Everything from an AWD Buick Enclave to a Cadillac Escalade have been loaned during snow storms. The officer driving the loaded 'Sclade reportedly didn't want to give the plush ride back. We get that feeling all the time. What does Coast Pontiac GMC get for its generosity? A public relations victory for sure, but every storm also works as a rolling advertisement for Coast Pontiac GMC's SUVs...

Filed under: Government/Legal , GM , HUMMER , Saab , Saturn , Earnings/Financials Let's go ahead and get it out there: General Motors doesn't have a plan for Saab, Saturn, or HUMMER - it has a bunch of hopes, ideas and proposals. The best that GM can do with Saab is try to extricate the brand from its entangled web, which might make it more attractive to a buyer. That includes moving 9-3 and 9-5 production to Sweden and being "engaged with the Swedish government" on a plan for Saab's future. But GM has admitted that "Saab is not a U.S. strategy," and the code behind that statement is probably, "We get rid of or kill it." GM's focus is on Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick and GMC, and Pontiac "will shrink substantially." The other brands appear to be waiting out their death row sentences on appeal. Saturn, like Saab, is so entrenched in GM that an outside buyer is a remarkably dim prospect. Saturn production is funded until 2012 (for now)...
