Filed under: Tuners , Sedans/Saloons , Opel , Vauxhall , UK , Special/Limited Editions Vauxhall Statesman - Click above for image gallery Wilcox Limousine in England distributes the Vauxhall Statesman in both six-door, three-row limousine and hearse configurations. The company has already begun eying the new Insignia for dignitary and funeral duty, and the result is rendered above. It's not all that bad for a limo conversion, but we had no idea that so many people were requesting to be chauffeured to the airport and The Great Beyond in stretched Vauxhalls. On the plus side, you'll find leather trim, walnut door cappings and a full divider on the inside. "Unbeatable prices" can't hurt, either. Check out the next Statesman limo and hearse in the gallery below. Filed under: Plants/Manufacturing , Crossovers/CUVs , Chevrolet , GM , Opel Chevrolet Orlando concept - Click above for high-res image gallery General Motors is in survival mode right now; cutting staff, closing plants, and reworking contracts. The last thing the General likely wants to cut back on is product, but even new vehicles aren't immune to the chopping block. Automotive News is reporting that GM has postponed production of the Chevrolet Orlando at its Detroit Hamtramck facility. Local United Auto Workers chief George McGregor informed AN that plant management informed him that the Orlando and a planned Opel variant will not be built at the facility later in the year. GM has neither declined or confirmed the Orlando's postponement (it could simply be built elsewhere), but North American President Troy Clarke mentioned at the Detroit Auto Show in January that the seven seat MPV would be headed for production in 2011. McGregor did say that plans were full speed ahead for the...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Minivans/MPVs , Euro , Crossovers/CUVs , Opel The Opel Meriva concept shown at last year's Geneva Motor Show had a nifty set of rear doors that employ that less-than-nifty epithet: suicide doors. According to all the spy shots that have surfaced, the production model won't exchange the concept's novelty for more sedate, rear-hinged doors at the rear. The latest prototype caught out has a fake set of door handles at the back of the rear door. However, there are shots of the sheetmetal from the inside , and you can plainly see the recessed hinge mounting areas at the rear of the panels. General Motors calls the arrangement FlexDoors, and evidently unlike other such setups, the rear doors will be able to open independently of one another (most such setups require that the front door be opened first). GM says the design will make the new Meriva safer and more convenient. Gallery: Opel Meriva Concept [Source: Carscoop ] Spy Shots: Opel Meriva mule caught...

Filed under: Euro , Government/Legal , Ford , GM , Earnings/Financials , Opel , Vauxhall Despite the fact that Ford has yet to request any special funding from either the federal governments in the United States or abroad, the automaker has repeatedly said that it supports its competitors as they seek financial aid. According to Ford of Europe CEO John Fleming, "We have no objections to competitors asking governments for support in these very difficult times." While some might think that Ford would stand to benefit if its largest competitor went the way of the Dodo, in reality, it's much more complicated than that. Says Fleming, "I would rather take sales from competitors by having better products rather than them going out of business." Plus, there's the sticky supplier situation - the loss of an automaker or two could have a drastic impact on the already weak auto supplier industry. In lieu of propping up individual automakers on a country-by-country basis...

Filed under: Euro , GM , Opel , Vauxhall Toward the end of last summer, before GM went from "Everybody calm down..." to "Everybody calm down... but we could use some help over here...", GM launched a U.S. Facts and Fiction site to counter some of the nefarious scuttlebutt doing the rounds. With GM Europe now in the same straits, a European version of the truth-telling portal has been created to provide the real lowdown on Opel and Vauxhall. In GM's words, it will counter "rumor, speculation and urban myths [that] circulate at this time," and "support informed discussion and fact-based reporting." Filed under: Euro , Government/Legal , GM , Earnings/Financials , Opel With the German government taking a very cautious approach towards extending a helping hand to GM's Opel division (Vauxhall in the U.K.), a large group of the brand's dealerships have hatched a scheme that could see them take a minority stake in the company. Under the proposal, participating dealers would put 150 euros from each Opel or Vauxhall vehicle sold into an account for the next three years. The total investment would equal 400 million euros, which would only buy a minority stake in the automaker and is far short of the 3.3 billion euros ($4.15 billion) that General Motors says Opel needs to survive in its present state. Still, the dealers believe it would be a solid way to show their support for the brand and enough to show how serious they are about preserving the automaker and their investment in the company.
