  • 2010 Nissan GT-R priced... it's more, but you get more

Filed under: Car Buying , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Nissan 2010 Nissan GT-R - Click above to enlarge Supercars have always existed to keep our passion for automobiles on constant boil, and supercars that don't crest the six-figure mark are the best kind. They're almost attainable. The Nissan GT-R remains that way for 2010 with a price bump to help pay for a few upgrades from the factory. The base model will begin at $80,790 and the Premium model at $83,040. According to Edmunds.com, the new MSRPs are both $3,950 more than what you would pay for a 2009 model. What does an extra four grand get you? A lot actually, not the least of which is a 5-horsepower bump for the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6, which nets a new grand total of 485 hp. Other additions include a retuned suspension with redesigned Bilstein shocks, an upgraded braking system with more rigid brake lines, standard front seat- and roof-mounted side curtain airbags for the base GT-R model, standard wheels for the GT-R with a darker...
  • VIDEO: Fast and Furious footage not yet seen

Filed under: Videos , Celebrities Click above to watch video after the jump The Fast and Furious franchise started off with a monumental bang, but quickly became a bit of a drag. OK, the original Fast and Furious was pretty darn good, but the other two actually removed brain cells from all who watched them. Did the script go bad, or was it just a lack of Shaq Vin Diesel? Universal Studios is hoping for the latter, as Mr. Clean is back for the fourth installment of the tuner car series. We've shown you a couple trailers so far, and after the jump are a few teaser minutes of the film that haven't been seen yet. Brian O'Connor's GT-R is fast and Dom Toretto's Chevelle SS is furious enough to magically flip some dude's ride over a bridge. We're pretty sure we won't be quoting Vin and Paul lines from Furious 4 after we see the movie, but some pretty sweet rides and the return of the Diesel should be enough to get us back into the theater. • Nissan GT-R Wagon spotted in Nagoya?!

Filed under: Tuners , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Wagons/Estates , Japan , Nissan , Misc. Auto Shows Click above for a gallery of the Nissan GT-R "wagon" Let's get this over with right now: This isn't really a Nissan GT-R wagon. That said, it is a decidedly artful conversion of the Japanese automaker's M35 series Stagea wagon, a JDM load-lugger it produced from 2001 to 2007. Available in both rear- and all-wheel drive with a variety of V6 powerplants, the now-dead Stagea has been called the "GT-R Wagon" by many enthusiasts. Spotted at Nagoya Auto Trend this weekend, this particular Stagea looks to be a super-clean conversion, with a well-integrated R35 GT-R front-end that's been carried through along the bodysides, with factory-like rocker panel indents and modestly rear quarter panels to keep the theme. While we don't have information about what lurks underneath, the folks at GTRBlog speculate that the wagon could have something interesting like a stroked...
  • Nissan confirms GT-R headed for FIA GT racing in 2009, 2010

Filed under: Motorsports , Sports/GTs , Japan , Supercars , Nissan Click above for a high-res gallery of the FIA-GT1-spec Nissan GT-R Nissan has announced its Global Motorsports Activities for 2009 and it looks like we'll be seeing the GT-R campaign in the FIA-GT1 category earlier than expected. Initial reports claimed that Nissan would begin offering LeMans-spec racers to privateer teams for the 2010 FIA-GT1 season, but in an effort to test the performance and competitiveness of the platform, a NISMO-developed GT-R will run as a non-championship entry in four races in 2009. Nissan is partnering with Gigawave MotorSport on the GT-R entry and has tapped GT500 racer Michael Krumm from NISMO and Darren Turner from Gigawave to pilot the GT-R during the season. Nissan hasn't announced exactly what events the NISMO GT-R will participate in, but there's a good chance that we'll be seeing Godzilla running at LeMans. The specs on race-ready GT-R haven't been officially revealed...
  • Nissan GT-R still quick with updated launch control

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Supercars , Nissan The internet has been abuzz with chatter ever since it was revealed that Nissan had updated the software that governs the GT-R's launch control and was instructing all of its dealers to reprogram every vehicle in dealer inventory that had yet to be sold with the new software in a bid to keep additional transmissions from grenading . The changes limit the maximum RPM that the car will sustain with the VDC switched off to around 3,500, a big reduction from the 4,500 limit of the old programming. Additionally, the software update adds a new, safer form of launch control that allows takeoffs at 3,000 RPM while the VDC remains active. Inquiring minds want to know: Would those alterations still allow the GT-R to hook up hard enough to reverse the earth's rotation at the drags? We have some good news to share with Godzilla owners that are contemplating whether or not to have their cars updated with the new software. A bone-stock GT-R with the...

  • Sorry, No Nissan GT-R engine for your 510

Filed under: Aftermarket , Maintenance , Sports/GTs , Tech , Supercars , Nissan Even though its MSRP is well shy of $100,000, the GT-R is still Nissan's most special model, and as such, it carries an air of exclusivity. Because of what the car is, and what it can do, Nissan has been exceptionally iron-fisted on some issues, and now the grip is tightening further. Citing the fact that the GT-R uses bits and pieces that are "highly engineered, using technologies unique to Nissan," it is now impossible to order, say, a GT-R engine unless you're a dealer doing work on an actual GT-R. All of your dreams crate motor swaps? Gone. And it's not just engines - the transmission, electrical system, fuel system, and chassis parts are also restricted to a GT-R -specific ordering process that reads like a ransom demand. It's not such a big deal for most owners, we'd guess, as they're going to to back for dealer service anyway. Tinkerers and tuners are the ones that will...
