Well, if new rumors are true, Nissan may have just the car for you - a softer-sprung, lux'd-up GT-R dubbed "Spec-M." According to the folks at Pistonheads, Nissan is preparing this new model featuring a recalibrated suspension setup for greater compliance, including what it calls "ripple control shock absorbers." On the inside, more upscale trimmings are also expected, with new seat color choices, as well as optional aluminum and woodgrain(!) finishes available. No drivetrain or exterior modifications are mooted, and if that's the case, we'd expect very similar performance figures. No word yet on what markets the rumored...

Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative , Green , Nissan Out in San Diego today, the Renault-Nissan Alliance officially brought its electric vehicle world domination plan project to California. Renault-Nissan will work with local utility company San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) in a partnership "to advance zero-emission mobility by promoting the development of an electric vehicle (EV) charging network." Nissan will bring the electric cars to the U.S. next year and SDG&E will help build up the charging infrastructure. The partners will also work with local groups to get the network up and running, maintain it, and teach people how to use it. As we mentioned earlier today, the word on the street is that Nissan is " not going to be charging a premium for this car, batteries included ," for when the EV goes on sale in the U.S. in 2010. Renault-Nissan is also moving forward with EV plans in Zürich , London , and is working with Better Place in various locations...

Filed under: Hybrids/Alternative , Sedans/Saloons , Green , Infiniti , Nissan Nissan and Infiniti have been lagging when it comes to bringing gas-electric models to market, with the exception of the Altima Hybrid which relies on a system borrowed from Toyota. According to a report by the Nikkei business daily in Japan, that's set to change when Infiniti begins offering a hybrid version of the M sedan in 2010. As previewed in August , the system differs from "conventional" hybrids on the market by using advanced lithium-ion batteries that boast more power and quicker recharge times. Additionally, the parallel hybrid system is equipped with one electric motor and two clutches to allow the gas engine and electric motor to drive the rear wheels simultaneously. Acceleration and response is expected to be more performance oriented - previewed in the Essence concept at the Geneva Motor Show - while a trio of driving modes will allow the M to run on electric power at low speeds, a...

Filed under: Car Buying , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Nissan 2010 Nissan GT-R - Click above to enlarge Supercars have always existed to keep our passion for automobiles on constant boil, and supercars that don't crest the six-figure mark are the best kind. They're almost attainable. The Nissan GT-R remains that way for 2010 with a price bump to help pay for a few upgrades from the factory. The base model will begin at $80,790 and the Premium model at $83,040. According to Edmunds.com, the new MSRPs are both $3,950 more than what you would pay for a 2009 model. What does an extra four grand get you? A lot actually, not the least of which is a 5-horsepower bump for the twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6, which nets a new grand total of 485 hp. Other additions include a retuned suspension with redesigned Bilstein shocks, an upgraded braking system with more rigid brake lines, standard front seat- and roof-mounted side curtain airbags for the base GT-R model, standard wheels for the GT-R with a darker...

Filed under: Time Warp , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Etc. , Japan , Videos , Nissan , Police/Emergency Unfortunately, I don't speak Japanese, because then I might have enjoyed the old detective drama Seibu Keisatsu even more than I did watching the video above and the two subsequent parts embedded after the jump. The crew at Japanese Nostalgic Car posted these last week, explaining that this particular episode was the first appearance of the "Super Machine-X" (names don't get much better than that) Skyline 2000GT Turbo. The black hero car (the first in a string of Nissans to be featured on the show) was outfitted with a metric ton of yestertech radio, camera, and computer equipment, all of which are used to track down the episode's villians. Those guys drive a '70 Cougar, inexplicably equipped with an imitation Screaming Chicken on the hood (seriously), setting up a Detroit vs. Japan showdown straight out of the Bizarro world. It's completely entertaining, even with...

Filed under: Tuners , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Wagons/Estates , Japan , Nissan , Misc. Auto Shows Click above for a gallery of the Nissan GT-R "wagon" Let's get this over with right now: This isn't really a Nissan GT-R wagon. That said, it is a decidedly artful conversion of the Japanese automaker's M35 series Stagea wagon, a JDM load-lugger it produced from 2001 to 2007. Available in both rear- and all-wheel drive with a variety of V6 powerplants, the now-dead Stagea has been called the "GT-R Wagon" by many enthusiasts. Spotted at Nagoya Auto Trend this weekend, this particular Stagea looks to be a super-clean conversion, with a well-integrated R35 GT-R front-end that's been carried through along the bodysides, with factory-like rocker panel indents and modestly rear quarter panels to keep the theme. While we don't have information about what lurks underneath, the folks at GTRBlog speculate that the wagon could have something interesting like a stroked...

Filed under: Government/Legal , Honda , Mazda , Nissan , Toyota , Earnings/Financials Toyota has already stepped up and asked the Japanese government for a $2 billion loan to shore up its U.S. lending arm, Toyota Motor Credit Corp. We've also heard that Honda may do the same . Add Nissan and Mazda to the list now. The four biggest Japanese automakers will now all likely ask for government loans to help ensure that sufficient credit is available for U.S. customers to purchase their cars and trucks. While all four have seen sales fall less sharply than General Motors, Ford and Chrysler, each is still experiencing historically low sales in their biggest market: the U.S. Fortunately, the Japanese government has a lot of cash lying around, around $1 trillion in a foreign currency stockpile. About $5 billion has been earmarked and can be funneled through the nation's state-backed bank, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Only Toyota has officially requested loans, but Nissan...
