Filed under: Motorsports , Supercars , Dodge 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 - Click above for high-res image gallery The Dodge Viper isn't for everyone. It's raw and brutal, and it takes a certain type of person to appreciate the its outlandish personality. Regardless of whether you like or dislike Dodge's flagship supercar, it's hard to argue against its capabilities. The Viper ACR is unmatched around the Nurburgring , besting the Corvette ZR1 and much more expensive supercars like the Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and Ferrari Enzo. Apparently, it's quite a drag racer too, according to one owner who took out his brand new, bone stock Viper SRT10 Convertible with just 100 miles on the odometer and ripped off a 10.92-second quarter mile. Most media outlets have tested the Viper's 1/4 mile time in the 11.6- to 11.9-second range, so with the right conditions and a perfect launch, we can see how the run was possible. In this situation, it seems the owner managed to get those...

Filed under: Motorsports , Tech The heavily modified S2000 car that will form the base package for some of the cars in the 2010 World Rally Championship will be stripped of at least one major modification the following year. According to Autosport , the World Motorsports Council has agreed to a new regulation that turbochargers would not be allowed on the 2011 cars, leaving aero mods as the only alterations left to be made to the basic car. In 2011 and 2012, when S2000 cars take over from the current WRC runners as the template, the cars will be naturally aspirated. Then, from 2013, in a decision proposed by the World Rallies Commission of the FIA and also ratified by the WSMC, the cars will run "cost-effective" 1.6-liter turbocharged engines. While the regulations have driven industry stalwart Subaru out of the WRC, they could open the door to other manufacturers such as Peugeot, Skoda, Abarth, and Proton who already run S2000 cars in the WRC-rival Intercontinental Rally Challenge...

Filed under: Motorsports , Etc. 24 Hours of LeMons - Click above for high-res image gallery of past events The 24 Hours of LeMons phenomenon has grown from a couple events per year to more than ten, with the junker endurance events popping up anywhere there's a track that allows dozens of $500 cars their last hurrah on the way to the scrap heap. Though endurance racing has always been the underlying, and ironic, premise of the 24 Hours of LeMons, the upcoming Laissez Les Crapheaps Roulez New Orleans event in June will add an interesting twist. The site of the event, No Problem Raceway, also hosts a drag strip, which means Saturday night will see contestants staging at a Christmas tree and dropping transmissions like its hot. For some extra fun, the LeMons crowd will be pitting their $500 pieces-o-crap against equally craptastic cars from the BABE Rally , a cross-country rally from New York City to New Orleans that also requires its entrants drive machinery valued at no more than $500...

He was likely one of the few whose attention wasn't solely fixed on the top tier Le Mans P1 class in which the new Audi R15 did battle with Peugeot and Acura. Keith was there for the Corvettes, and this particular race was significant for Corvette Racing. Later this season, Corvette will switch from the GT1 to GT2 class, so this was the final chance for the C6.R to open up a can at Sebring, and open a can it did . The Competition Sport is a new model offered by Chevy that celebrates the Corvette's success in racing, and it's more than just a pretty package. Keith got to sample what the Competition Sport has to offer while riding shotgun during a hot lap session at Sebring the day before the big race...
