Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , SUVs , China , Jaguar , Land Rover , Tata China just gave the folks at Tata the best news they've probably had all year: an order for 13,000 Jaguars and Land Rovers. Sources say the breakdown is 10,000 Land Rovers and 3,000 Jaguars to be delivered over the next three years. The value of the deal for Tata: £600 million. That's almost a quarter of the price Tata paid to buy the two brands from Ford last year and represents nearly 20% of JLR's tally of 251,650 global sales in 2008. It hasn't been revealed who all the cars are for, but the sale was concluded with a Chinese trade delegation visiting the UK. It's a little late, but we're sure Tata is wishing everyone a happy Chinese New Year. Fly that sucker off Niagara Falls, that's what. Not immediately, of course, there are plenty of details to work out before taking the 167-foot plunge. In the meantime, Shaun Baker will take his kayak and its propulsion system, a compact two-stroke engine and waterjet drive akin to that of a jet ski, and refine both his technique and equipment. Rather than announce what waterfall he might careen from next, Baker is playing his cards close to the vest in an attempt to head off any potential access problems. The world record holder figures he's going to need some kind of aerofoil system to ensure stable flight on the way down from such heights, and landing without crushing his spinal column would be nice, too. Filed under: Spy Photos , SUVs , Land Rover Reports indicate that Land Rover is planning to facelift nearly its entire range later this year, including refreshed versions of the LR3, Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Spy shots of the latter's test mules indicate that the updated luxury off-roaders will be distinguished by modest revisions to the bumpers, grille and headlamps, in addition to refreshed interiors. The juicy news, however, is under the bonnet, where sources suggest the latest Jaguar engines will find their new home. In addition to Jaguar's 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel that is already confirmed to migrate to the Land Rovers, reports now indicate that the XF 's 5.0-liter V8 will feature in the update SUVs, including a torque-tuned take on the supercharged version from the XFR for the most powerful Range Rovers. Considering that the engine propelled the XFR to a top speed of 225 mph at Bonneville , we could be looking at one wickedly fast Range Rover when all is said...

Filed under: SUVs , Etc. , Land Rover Land Rover first clambered onto our shores in March, 1987. It took almost ten-and-a-half years to sell the first 100,000 vehicles in the U.S., but it took only five more to move the next 150,000. And now with an expanded lineup and the Range Rover still stalking the countryside as the king of the luxury SUV pride, Land Rover North America has taken just two-and-a-half years to sell another 100,000 units. When a Range Rover Sport left the lot in Cerritos, California this month, that totaled 500,000 Land Rovers bought and paid for. And so to you Land Rover, on your 60th birthday, a tip of the hat and half a million kudos. Press release after the jump . Filed under: Hirings/Firings/Layoffs , Jaguar , Land Rover , Earnings/Financials , UK Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Jaguar XFR Just days after introducing what are sure to be two of its best cars in over a decade, Jaguar, along with its partner-in-crime Land Rover, has announced that it's trimming some 450 workers from its global ranks. Hardest hit will be management, which will see its membership drop by about 300 employees, with the remaining 150 coming from J-LR's hourly staff. It probably goes without saying why the reductions are necessary, but here it goes anyway... Sales were down in 2008 due to a poor global economy and the general lack of available credit, and 2009 isn't expected to shape up much better. Fewer cars sold means fewer workers are necessary to build them and a smaller pot is available to pay from. J-LR, which is now owned by Tata Motors of India, still has four manufacturing sites in England and is hoping that the government in the...

Filed under: SUVs , I.C.E. , Jaguar , Land Rover When the facelifted Range Rover Sport and Land Rover Discovery 3 (LR3 in the U.S.) take their bows later this year, in addition to the new faces they'll also be showing off new engines. The 2.7-liter TDV6 currently used is good for 190 hp and 324 lb-ft. The new engine will be Jaguar's 3.0-liter twin turbocharged V6 diesel and will come in two flavors: one with 237 hp for the Discovery 3, and one with 272 hp and 420 lb-ft for the Range Rover Sport. Those numbers are down on the figures achieved by the same lump in the Jaguar, at 275 hp and 443 lb-ft, but even the 237 hp variant should give the 190 hp 2.7-liter a proper shellacking. Even though the 2.7-liter, might remain as an option, the same engine swap yielded a 12% increase in gas mileage in the Jaguar. With the 3.0-liter providing more power on less fuel, it makes us think the 2.7-liter will be shown the door either by Land Rover or its customers. [Source: Autocar ] Land Rover...
