  • 2010 Jaguar XJ to debut in July, on sale in September

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Jaguar We're in the South of France getting ready to drive Jaguar's new XFR and XKR sports models, and Mike O'Driscoll, Jaguar's managing director, has just confirmed that to us that the long-awaited Jaguar XJ successor will debut this July, with sales beginning in late summer. Although details about the new XJ are still scarce, expect a thoroughly redesigned exterior that moves away from the current car's evolutionary design (shown above) by taking several cues from the new XF. Similarly, expect an all-new interior that adopts the company's Jaguar Drive transmission (recently ported over to the new XK) and an aluminum architecture that's rumored to keep the curb weight below 4,000 pounds. At launch, look for Jag's all-new naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 to makes its way under the hood, with an XJR model following sometime in 2011 packing the XFR's 510-horsepower supercharged bent-eight. 2010 Jaguar XJ to debut in July,...
  • Buick, Jaguar knock Lexus from top of J.D. Power 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study

Filed under: Car Buying , Buick , Jaguar , Lexus Click above for results of 2009 J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study J.D. Power and Associates has just released its 2009 Vehicle Dependability Study... and it is a bombshell. For the past 14 years, including the most recent 2008 Vehicle Dependability Study , Lexus has sat at the top of the chart. In a significant upset this year, Buick and Jaguar have tied for top ranking (with just 122 problems per 100 vehicles) dropping the premium automaker Lexus (126 PP100) down to third place. The top five are rounded out by Toyota (129 PP100) and Mercury (134 PP100). The Vehicle Dependability Study is designed to accurately measure problems experienced by original owners of three-year-old (2006 model year) vehicles. J.D. Power based this year's results on responses from more than 46,000 original owners of 2006 model-year vehicles. For 2009, the study has also been redesigned to include 202 different problem symptoms across all areas of the vehicle...
  • Rumormill: Jaguar XJ details leak out

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Jaguar One of the chief criticisms leveled at the the Jaguar XJ after the sedan's last redesign was that it looked too much like the XJ of 1968... only without the sleekness. From a technical standpoint, Jaguar had done an admirable job of making the car both roomier and lighter thanks to a new aluminum structure, but the retro style was so similar to the outgoing model that it looked like a brand-new old car. Fast-forward to July 2009, where Jaguar - now owned by India's Tata instead of Ford - will be bringing forth a new full-size sedan. Judging by both spy shots and the rumormill, the current car's retro looks will be dropped and the exterior will takes cues from the XF. The more upright greenhouse of today's XJ will be discarded in favor of a fastback roof-line, and power is expected to come from the new direct-injected 5.0-liter Gen-3 AJ-V8. If reports are correct, the car's aluminum structure will be retained, albeit heavily re-worked...
  • Rumormill: Jaguar XF Estate headed to Frankfurt

Filed under: Concept Cars , Frankfurt Auto Show , Euro , Jaguar , Rumormill The Jaguar XF has gotten off to a strong sales start , and with a tempting new diesel engine option in Europe and a new "R" performance model , the sport sedan is being asked to carry a lot of water for the British brand. And if new rumors prove to be true, the XF will soon be able to tote a lot more of the wet stuff thanks to a new wagon variant. According to Auto Motor und Sport , Jaguar will unveil a thinly-disguised XF Estate concept car at September's Frankfurt Motor Show, with a 2011 production model following about six months later. AMuS also suggests that there will be an XFR estate model to take on BMW's M5 Touring and Audi's RS6, and like its sedan counterpart, it is expected to be V8-powered with some 510 supercharged horsepower. Naturally, more measured V8 and V6 models will also make the scene, along with a pair of V6 diesel models. Other XF variants, including a possible coupe...
  • Land Rover, Jaguar get Chinese order for 13,000 vehicles

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , SUVs , China , Jaguar , Land Rover , Tata China just gave the folks at Tata the best news they've probably had all year: an order for 13,000 Jaguars and Land Rovers. Sources say the breakdown is 10,000 Land Rovers and 3,000 Jaguars to be delivered over the next three years. The value of the deal for Tata: £600 million. That's almost a quarter of the price Tata paid to buy the two brands from Ford last year and represents nearly 20% of JLR's tally of 251,650 global sales in 2008. It hasn't been revealed who all the cars are for, but the sale was concluded with a Chinese trade delegation visiting the UK. It's a little late, but we're sure Tata is wishing everyone a happy Chinese New Year. • New Jaguar XE sportscar to ride on bobbed XK platform?

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Euro , Jaguar , Rumormill Autocar is reporting that the compact Jaguar XE sports car due in about two years time will be based on a shortened version of the XK 's extruded and cast aluminum frame. The dimensions are supposedly going to challenge those of the Mercedes SLK, and that narrower chassis created for the XE could then be lengthened something that would "compete in the compact premium segment." Engines - which would go up front, not in the middle - could include an outsourced and blown four-cylinder, or a V6 developed from Jaguar's new 5.0-liter V8. Lotus is again tipped to be helping Jaguar sort out the car's dynamics, and might even manufacture the car. • 2010 Jaguar XFR undercuts German rivals with $80,000 starting price

Filed under: Car Buying , Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Jaguar Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Jaguar XFR The renaissance of Jaguar really began with the introduction of the XF sedan . It was the first Jaguar model in, well a long time, that deserved serious consideration from luxury sport sedan buyers and the first that could hold its own against rivals from BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Audi. The second salvo came at this year's Detroit Auto Show where Jaguar unveiled the XFR . Powered by a supercharged, direct-inject version of Jaguar's 5.0L V8 that produces 510 horsepower, the XFR was specifically designed to stare down the BMW M5 and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. Jaguar North America has just announced pricing for the 2010 model XF, and the XFR model rings at $80,000 even. That's a few thousand less than both the M5 and E63 AMG, and the XFR produces more power than both. The Audi S6, meanwhile, is less expensive than all three, but also significantly less powerful...
