Filed under: Coupes , Marketing/Advertising , Hyundai 2010 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - Click above for high-res gallery This Wednesday, March 25, Hyundai will be allowing fans of the new Genesis Coupe a rare opportunity to participate in the press introduction of the new car. When new models come to market, automakers typically invite the media to some location where they get to listen a presentation on the technical details and marketing plans before going out for a first drive. The information shared during these events eventually gets passed on to you, the readers. Hyundai is holding its Genesis Coupe first drive this week, but the pre-drive presentation will be streamed live over the interwebs. Those of you looking for insights on the Genny coupe can head over to http://genesispresspass.com/live/ on March 25, 2009 at 11am EDT. You can even submit your questions now to the Hyundai executives via a form on the site and they may be answered live during the Q&A part of the event. Those...

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Hyundai As much as we're impressed by the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and its big, optional V6 engine, it's the little 2.0-liter turbocharged four banger that we're most excited about. The idea of a (relatively) lightweight and inexpensive rear-wheel drive coupe with a six-speed manual transmission is enough to make us weak in the knees, and the fact that it comes in a nice looking wrapper is an added bonus. Inside Line managed to score an early example from Hyundai equipped just the way we like it, and their testers have kindly strapped it on the dyno. Fortunately, the results don't disappoint, with the force-fed motor putting out 197 horsepower at the rear wheel and a peak of 227 lb-ft of torque at just 2500 rpm. Those figures compare very favorably with Hyundai's factory ratings of 210 ponies and 223 lb-ft, meaning that this little Korean's power is probably underrated by a fair margin. Looking at the graphs , it's also clear that...

Filed under: Hyundai , Earnings/Financials Hyundai's Assurance program , launched by the automaker in early January to give wary customers peace of mind if they lose their jobs during the first year of Hyundai ownership, appears to be working. According to the Korean automaker, the program is attracting shoppers. "We think it's responsible for a 10 to 15 percent incremental increase in interest," said John Krafcik, acting CEO of Hyundai Motor America. January sales numbers seem to support the automaker's claim. While nearly every other car manufacturer reported double-digit sales declines last month, Hyundai sales were up 14.3% compared to the same period last year. Krafcik credits the sales increase to the publicity surrounding the Genesis sedan being named the North American Car of the Year , and its unique Assurance program. Only two customers have returned cars under the program, and the automaker is committed to run it until the end of 2009... plenty of time to...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Hyundai , Canada Another trophy has been thrown at the Hyundai Genesis by the Automobile Journalists' Association of Canada: 2009 Canadian Car of the Year. To get to the top spot, the Genesis beat an odd assortment of cars , including the Audi A4 and TTS, the Lexus IS F , Mazda6 , and Mercedes CL550 and SL63 AMG . Among the other vehicles joining the Genesis on the podium: the Ford Flex took the Canadian Utility Vehicle of the Year, and the Honda Fit snagged Best New Design. Kudos, Hyundai. Again... Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Sedans/Saloons , Trucks/Pickups , Ford , Hyundai Like an automotive continuation of the BCS bowls, winners were crowned for the 16th North American Car of the Year and North American Truck of the Year awards at the Detroit Auto Show this morning. Voted on by 50 automotive journalists in various media from the U.S. and Canada (where's Mexico?), winners took home a bit of brand polish and a big lump of crystal. The award selects "the most outstanding vehicles of the year based on factors that include innovation, design, safety, handling, driver satisfaction and value for the dollar." For a shot at the title, eligible vehicles must be "all-new" or "substantially changed" from the previous model. Taking the monogrammed plaque in the car category was the Hyundai Genesis , beating back two other finalists, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI and the Ford Flex. It's the first time a diesel has been a finalist, and it was only beat by...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Hyundai Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis sedan Hyundai made it clear from the onset that the new Genesis sedan would upset the balance in the luxury world, particularly at the expense of Lexus. Consumer Reports' latest round of testing proves that Hyundai has succeeded in dethroning Toyota's luxury arm as the latest credible entry into the "Upscale Sedan" arena. Just as Lexus was once the upstart that ruffled feathers, it's Hyundai's turn, and they are making the most of the opportunity with a win against all comers from the likes of Acura, Lincoln, Saab and Lexus, which had previously held the top overall spot with its ES350 sedan. Despite the Genesis' win in direct testing, Consumer Reports doesn't have enough data to rate the sedan as "Recommended." The same goes for the ES350, which means that the Acura TL is the only competitor in the segment that officially gets CR 's nod. Regardless...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Hyundai , Rendered Speculation Click the rendering for high-res images This is the sketch that follows an earlier rendering of the third generation Hyundai Equus, due in 2010. As far as sedans are concerned, it looks like Hyundai is moving toward the Aston Martin school of design -- make something everyone loves, and then make it a little different and give it another name. The coming Kia luxury sedan started it, and beneath the cartoonish anger of this Equus sketch there's a Genesis on a bad batch of nandrolone. Underneath and inside, the car won't be lacking in either power or pleasures. Pushed by the rear wheels this time, an Equus first, initially it will be offered with the Genesis' 4.6-liter V8 and Hyundai's in-house eight-speed automatic transmission. Later, a 5.0-liter V8 will get up to 420 hp, and some speculation hints that the lump will be direct injection and cylinder deactivation. Other chatter suggests that engine will be joined...
