  • Fiat prices 500 convertible for UK

Filed under: Car Buying , Convertibles , Euro , FIAT , UK Fiat 500 C - Click above for high-res gallery The hotly anticipated Fiat 500 C , which was officially unveiled earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show , has just gotten a price in the U.K. ahead...
  • Speculating on what products are likely to result from a Chrysler-Fiat partnership

Filed under: Chrysler, LLC. , FIAT , Rumormill According to the tea-leaf readers over at Automotive News , the alliance between Fiat and Chrysler is expected to yield at lease six new models for the Pentastar in the next few years - if everything works out. Since Chrysler doesn't really have any truly viable products in the smaller car segments, that will likely be the main focus as the companies work toward meeting at least the 35 mpg CAFE standard, and very possibly an even higher 40+ mpg requirement if CO2 emissions limits come into force. If the project moves ahead, AN believes that North American Chrysler factories may end up building a number number of Fiat and Alfa Romeo vehicles for sale in Chrysler showrooms with their original Italian names including the 500, MiTo and Milano. The Chrysler brands would also get several new products based on Italian platforms, including a sub-Patriot sized Jeep based on the Fiat Panda Cross (pictured above) and a C-segment car based on the Grande...
  • Chery and Fiat put alliance talks on hold

Filed under: Chery , FIAT The global economic recession has officially slowed Fiat's Big Love -style partnerships, as the Italian automaker's deal with Chery to produce models for the Chinese market has been put on hold. In August 2007, the two companies agreed on a 50/50 joint venture to produce 175,000 vehicles per year beginning in 2009. Chery spokesman Jin Yibo said that vehicle production "won't happen this year" and no date has been given for Fiat and Chery to begin building vehicles for China. While global auto sales have taken a huge hit, the Chinese market has proven more resilient. The land of the Great Wall actually sold more cars and trucks in January and February than the United States. Given the upbeat car market in China, delaying the joint venture may sound a little strange. Fiat could be delaying the partnership to concentrate on its potential partnership with Chrysler, which would bring the Italian Automaker back into the (usually) lucrative US market...
  • REPORT: UAW backs Chrysler-Fiat partnership

Filed under: Government/Legal , Chrysler, LLC. , FIAT , UAW/Unions According to The Detroit News , the United Auto Workers is giving its blessings to a potential Chrysler-Fiat tie-up. Chrysler honcho Bob Nardelli earlier pegged the possible union as a $10 billion bonanza for Chrysler, since the Pentastar would save money on developing a range of platforms, engines, and cars. The UAW's interest is, of course, the job savings: the partnership has been said to be worth 5,000 jobs that might otherwise be lost. But with current timelines, the question is where Chrysler and the UAW will be by the time such a partnership gets to the next stage. Fiat expects to complete its due diligence of Chrysler by the end of this month. But by that time, Chrysler will need to have secured concessions from the UAW and bondholders in order to get additional money from the U.S. government. Whether it will get the concessions from both parties - and what the government will do when it comes time to write a...
  • VIDEO: Chrysler's Nardelli makes case for "Why Fiat Works"

Filed under: Government/Legal , Videos , Chrysler, LLC. , Earnings/Financials , FIAT Click above to view the video after the jump To go along with the email that was sent to Chrysler employees , CEO Bob Nardelli is now starring in his very own video where he continues to extol the virtues of a partnership with Fiat . After stating that Chrysler is clearly a viable company on a standalone basis, Nardelli goes on to say that the Detroit-based automaker's future would be "significantly enhanced" with a Fiat alliance. How so? First, Chrysler stands to gain plenty of impressive technology, including Fiat's new Multiair engine technology . Furthermore, new vehicle platforms could be introduced to the United States market - including the diminutive Fiat 500 - in segments that Chrysler currently fares poorly. According to Nardelli, all of these developments would save Chrysler plenty of money and would allow the American automaker to repay its federal loans in a more timely fashion...
  • Chrysler values Fiat partnership at $10 billion

Filed under: Government/Legal , Chrysler, LLC. , Earnings/Financials , FIAT In an email to employees, Chrysler Corp. CEO Bob Nardelli has valued his company's potential partnership with Fiat at around $10 billion. That number is comprised of things like the cost of developing new vehicles that Chrysler would incur on its own, but should pocket in a tie-up with Fiat, which would provide the Auburn Hills-based automaker with ready made small cars to sell. Selling Chrysler-badged Fiats in the U.S. would not only save Chrysler money, it would also save years of development time and countless sales lost from not having a suitable small car to sell. Fiat would also likely utilize a portion of Chrysler's production capacity in North America to build its own cars for sale here, which would save a number of Pentastar employees' jobs and maybe even create some more. Nardelli told his employees that the value of partnering with Fiat is greater than the total amount of money that Chrysler...
  • BMW and Fiat working on new small car platform, concept headed to Frankfurt?

Filed under: Frankfurt Auto Show , Economy , Hybrids/Alternative , Green , Hatchbacks , BMW , FIAT We've been hearing rumblings that BMW and Fiat were working together on the development of future small vehicle platforms for a while now. With the German automaker working on an Isetta revival and the Italian firm moving forward with a new Topolino , it makes some sense that the two companies would join forces on a single platform sharedbetween the two small retromobiles. According to Auto Express in the U.K., work is far enough along that we could see both new city cars by 2011. If current rumors are accurate, the cars will feature a rear-mounted engine and four seats, putting the machines on par with the new Toyota iQ and upcoming Up! from Volkswagen . AE says that light weight would be ensured through the use of aluminum and carbon fiber for the chassis and possibly even plastic bodywork, and if that's the case, we can't see these being anything less than premium-priced. An...
  • REPORT: Renault to relaunch Gordini performance brand in 2010

Filed under: Time Warp , Sports/GTs , Euro , Hatchbacks , Renault , Special/Limited Editions While it may seem like an inopportune time to exhume a performance marque, that's just what Renault is up to, says Car . According to the U.K. glossy, Renault will relaunch the Gordini brand in Europe next year with a new Twingo variant. You may recall that it was recently revealed that the French automaker's plans to bring back its storied Alpine product line has been axed , but the decades-dormant Gordini is apparently a different matter altogether. The new lineup of hot hatches will slot in above current Renaultsport offerings, with the aforementioned Twingo reportedly being followed by Clio and Megane Coupe models. Like the Gordini-tuned cars of yore, the new models are tipped to wear blue paint and white stripes along with various performance upgrades that will make them a likely foil to Fiat's reborn Abarth lineup.
