It's raw and brutal, and it takes a certain type of person to appreciate the its outlandish personality. Regardless of whether you like or dislike Dodge's flagship supercar, it's hard to argue against its capabilities. The Viper ACR is unmatched around the Nurburgring , besting the Corvette ZR1 and much more expensive supercars like the Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and Ferrari Enzo. Apparently, it's quite a drag racer too, according to one owner who took out his brand new, bone stock Viper SRT10 Convertible with just 100 miles on the odometer and ripped off a 10.92-second quarter mile. Most media outlets have tested the Viper's 1/4 mile time in the 11.6- to 11.9-second range, so with the right conditions and a perfect launch, we can see how the run was possible. In this situation, it seems the owner managed to get those...

Filed under: Supercars , Dodge Dodge Viper ACR - Click above for high-res gallery The battle between America's preeminent supercars continues as Inside Line has taken a stock Dodge Viper ACR to the Bonneville Salt Flats to see what it can do. We'd say it did rather well. On the final run of the day, Dodge's ultimate Viper slithered its way to 173 miles per hour on the 10-mile long strip of salt. There's a great story about what it took to reach that terminal velocity, click here to read it. By way of comparison - and because we know you're all wondering - Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson was able to wring a stock Corvette ZR1's neck to about 176 miles per hour at Bonneville in an episode that aired late last year. Different days with different weather conditions to be sure, but it's always fun to stir the pot, right? It's not just in straight-line acceleration where the two American heavyweights duke it out , with the Viper ACR recording a blistering lap of...

Filed under: Time Warp , Sports/GTs , Etc. , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , Rendered Speculation Click above for a high-resolution gallery of Rafael Reston's 1967 Viper It's always a fun exercise to think about what might have been. Who doesn't daydream about how your favorite brand may have looked if only for one simple change. Designer Rafael Reston has turned his imagination toward Chrysler of the 1960s, pondering what a Viper may have looked like in 1967. Far be it from us to criticize the effort, but we're hard pressed to see Chrysler cues in the handsome renderings. Reston did take pains to research the vehicles and construction methods of the day, and he did do renderings of a stripped down framework of the vehicle, which shows a preponderance of Corvette influence. The chassis also looks like it would have been prohibitively expensive to produce, and let's not talk about the S-curves coming off the exhaust manifolds, which are chrome -- none of which would see the...

Filed under: Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , Saleen Click above for high-res gallery of the Dodge Viper ACR Saleen's future has been in upheaval the last few years. First, company founder Steve Saleen left, then the company's assets were sold off to private investors . Its new owners plan to continue making superchargers and bolt-on parts, but Saleen's turnkey Racecraft and S lines could face the axe, while the company's former keepers retain ownership of its supercar manufacturing business while they figure out what they can do with it. Meanwhile, Chrysler has been looking to sell of its Viper operation , but while Saleen could have been a contender in years past, in its current condition few expect it to make such a large acquisition. That may be a false assumption, however, as silence is speaking louder than words. Understandably, Chrysler's management is not disclosing the identities of the three potential buyers with which it is discussing the future of the Viper enterprise...

Filed under: Supercars , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , Earnings/Financials Click above for high-res gallery of the Dodge Viper ACR Chrysler has been out shopping its Viper line since August of last year, and reports now indicate that there are at least three interested parties that have made offers for America's other sports car. So far, there's no word on who those suitors may be, but past rumors had indicated that both Saleen ( not likely ) and Roush were interested. When the announcement was initially made that the automaker was considering offloading Viper as a brand. The prevailing thought was that the move could save the car from extinction; now, the tables have turned and it's generally acknowledged that Viper's sale may actually help save its struggling parent company. The income from selling the sportscar unit could help bolster the report due to Congress by the end of March regarding Chrysler's long-term viability, but the automaker doesn't expect to have anything...

Filed under: Supercars , Dodge Click above for a gallery of the Dodge Viper ACR There's really only one way to get an accurate measure of a car's horsepower, and that's by strapping it on a proper dyno. Even then, not all dyno's produce the same results, but in our numbers-driven society, we'll take what we can get. Two of the fiercest 'Ring competitors are the new Corvette ZR1 and the Dodge Viper ACR , which currently holds the unofficial fastest lap record with a blistering time of 7:22.1 . Wondering how they stack up power-wise? According to reports on DragTimes , the duo are pretty darn close with the naturally-aspirated Dodge posting an impressive 546 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque compared to the supercharged ZR1's 549.9 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. Considering that both vehicles use a six-speed stick and power the rear wheels, drivetrain losses should be similar, so these figures are relatively comparable and they prove once again that the horsepower...
