Filed under: Motorsports , Supercars , Dodge 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 - Click above for high-res image gallery The Dodge Viper isn't for everyone. It's raw and brutal, and it takes a certain type of person to appreciate the its outlandish personality. Regardless of whether you like or dislike Dodge's flagship supercar, it's hard to argue against its capabilities. The Viper ACR is unmatched around the Nurburgring , besting the Corvette ZR1 and much more expensive supercars like the Maserati MC12, Pagani Zonda F and Ferrari Enzo. Apparently, it's quite a drag racer too, according to one owner who took out his brand new, bone stock Viper SRT10 Convertible with just 100 miles on the odometer and ripped off a 10.92-second quarter mile. Most media outlets have tested the Viper's 1/4 mile time in the 11.6- to 11.9-second range, so with the right conditions and a perfect launch, we can see how the run was possible. In this situation, it seems the owner managed to get those...

Filed under: Trucks/Pickups , Recalls/TSBs , Safety , Crossovers/CUVs , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge The 2008 and 2009 Dodge Ram and 2009 Dodge Journey are being recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, each for a different reason. The Ram's windshield wiper motor isn't adequately protected from water, so it could fail completely due to water intrusion. Initial numbers suggest 72,138 Rams are affected. The fix is a stop at the dealership to have some vented wiper motor housings installed. Some 16,852 Dodge Journeys that do not have the optional 115-volt auxiliary power outlet are also being recalled. The unused electrical connector for that optional component could potentially cause a fire. It's the second fire-related recall for the Journey, and akin to the unused connector issue that affected the Town & Country and Grand Caravan. Dealers will remove the fuse and reroute the wiring. Full info on both recalls is available after the jump. Gallery: In the...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Time Warp , Trucks/Pickups , Dodge , Special/Limited Editions Dodge's original Li'l Red Express trucks are now in their early 30s, and even building a clone will be an exercise in rust mitigation and parts scavenging. By the time you're done, you'll have spent enough to buy a brand new Ram. Mopar high-performance icon Mr. Norm's is doing what Chrysler can't currently manage, reviving the spirit of the original with a fully modern Red XPress Truck, using the excellent new Ram as a basis. The name has been tweaked and there's no fat-fendered bed, but the general idea is the same. Chrysler's 5.7-liter Hemi is the standard fitment, and with 380 horsepower and 403 pound-feet of torque, it makes a good argument. Alternatively, 6.1 liters of SRT crate Hemi will give you about 450 hp, and then there's the 426 cubic inch version of the SRT engine, which Mr. Norm's modified with forged internals and more stroke. Thus tweaked, the...

Filed under: Plants/Manufacturing , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , Earnings/Financials , UAW/Unions , Rumormill According to The Canadian Press , Chrysler may elect to pull all manufacturing operations out of Canada if it cannot come to an agreement with the Canadian Auto Workers by month's end. The embattled automaker is looking negotiating with the CAW in part to reduce wages from an average of $76 to $57, and as part of a contingency plan/ bargaining chip, it is reportedly architecting a wholesale pullout from America's northern neighbors. The pullout would jeopardize some 10,000 jobs at the company's two plants in Ontario and another facility in Toronto. It would also mean that production would have to shift (or end) for a number of key Chrysler products, including the company's minivans (and Volkswagen's Routan), as well as the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger. The likely alternatives, say analysts, would be to push minivan production back to the St....

Filed under: Spy Photos , Convertibles , Sports/GTs , Etc. , Dodge Scrap Heap-bound Dodge Challenger Convertible - Click above for image gallery Dodge long ago confirmed that a convertible version of the Challenger was not going to happen , blaming the extreme degree to which the chassis would need stiffening if the roof were removed. Then what did members of the Michigan F-Body Association forum spot riding on a trailer around Auburn Hills, MI, home of Chrysler's headquarters? The pics don't lie, and they're telling us that Dodge did produce at least one Challenger Convertible in Lime Green that never saw the light of day. Numerous tuners have created convertible versions of the Challenger already, many of which debuted at last year's SEMA Show in Las Vegas, but an official version was never shown by Dodge. This one, which appears to be a concept rather than a preproduction vehicle, has been defaced with the word "SCRAP" spray-painted on its bumper and fenders...

Filed under: Coupes , Chevrolet , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge , Ford , GM The Ford Mustang has been a dominant force in the sales department well before the last generation Chevy Camaro rode off into the sunset. That changed last month. Ford's iconic pony car has been outsold by the Dodge Challenger by 293 units in February, as the Dodge coupe racked up 3,283 sales during a very challenging month. The Challenger's February victory could be a sign of things to come for the Mustang, as the Blue Oval's most recognizable vehicle is set to get bombarded with more competition coming from the 2010 Camaro. The Camaro, which goes into regular production on March 16, already has over 10,000 pre-orders on the books. The Mustang won't be left for dead, though, as the pony car is getting a major makeover this spring. In fact, one reason the Challenger defeated the Mustang in February could be the fact that some are waiting for the 2010 model. Automakers also slow production before retooling...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge 2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8 - Click above for high-res gallery After learning that General Motors would be disbanding its High Performance Vehicle Operations team to focus on less performance-oriented projects, our thoughts naturally turned towards Ford's SVT and Chrysler's SRT groups. Would Detroit's other automakers follow GM's lead and kill off their fellow speed divisions? Apparently not. Ford has gone on record stating that the SVT program will continue on in its current capacity and now Chrysler has announced that it will continue to develop SRT versions of its volume sellers. In a posting on Chrysler's Red Letter Dodge blog, Steve Bartoli, Chrysler's vice president for global product planning, had a few choice comments regarding the future of the Pentastar's SRT models, saying, "We are working on a sedan as we speak. We will look at many styling options." Admittedly, that's short on detail,...
