Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Coupes , Crossovers/CUVs , Kia Click above for a high-res gallery of the Kia Soulster Our initial guess that Kia would bring a Soul coupe to next week's Detroit Auto Show seems to be holding up with the release of a new teaser bearing the name "Soulster." Naturally, the two-door Soul will keep its boxy profile, with a redesigned hatch that incorporates blacked-out pillars into the tinted windows of the greenhouse. Unfortunately, that means that a Soulamino is out, but we see how well that worked for GM . Detroit Preview: Kia Soulster originally appeared on Autoblog on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 13:33:00 EST. Filed under: Videos , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Cadillac SRX The current Cadillac SRX is a competent vehicle, although it hasn't come close to selling as many units as the Lexus RX350, let alone the Acura MDX. GM is looking to change that with the thoroughly revised 2010 Cadillac SRX . Gone are the station wagon looks and rear wheel drive, and in its place is a new front drive platform and sheetmetal that looks the part of a true crossover contender. General Motors has ditched its larger powertrains for an efficient 3.0L, direct injected V6 and a 300 horsepower, 2.8L turbocharged unit that have the potential to quell fears that the new 2010 model will be lacking in the performance department. We had the chance to speak with Cadillac Marketing Director Steve Shannon to get an in-depth tour of the new SRX, and you can get the inside story in the video after the jump . Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Cadillac SRX Almost exactly a year after revealing the Provoq Concept , Cadillac is debuting the redesigned 2010 SRX wearing essentially the same suit of clothes. At that time, the Provoq was thought to be a preview of a new smaller crossover called the BRX, but Cadillac informed us last summer that the "BRX" was actually the all-new SRX. We'll be seeing the new SRX in production form at the Detroit Auto Show , and while automakers often throw the term "all-new" around, in this case it really seems to apply. There is almost nothing carried over to this version of the SRX compared to the old one, although many of the greasy bits are shared with other GM vehicles. The biggest difference going from the Provoq concept to the production SRX is the powertrain. The Provoq used a Volt based E-Flex powertrain with a fuel cell range extender. The SRX is a far more...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Sedans/Saloons , Crossovers/CUVs , Volvo Click above for a hi-res gallery of the Volvo S60 Concept It may not be the same as attending the event in-person, but a live, interactive webcast of Volvo's press conference at the Detroit Auto Show , where the S60 concept and production XC60 for North America will be shown, could be the next best thing. The broadcast is intended for media types and members of the press, but the fact that it's being aired on DirecTV (channel 101, January 11 at 5:30 - 6:30 PM ET) means that anybody with a television and the satellite service can watch it live. Alternatively, users can register for a password to the online site, the location of which is not yet determined. The coolest bit of tech that's making an appearance for this event is the capability to send questions to a live host who will then relay selected inquiries to key Volvo executives. These days, the global economic downturn is affecting...

It is March, though, that will bring year's first real bounty. At Geneva, BMW will be showing off a concept version of the Passive Activity Vehicle (half 5 Series, half X6), the Concept eDrive (an electric 1 Series or 3 Series), a Z4 Individual , and the Rolls-Royce 102EX (otherwise known as the RR4 ). Then in April, BMW's taking the show to Shanghai with the 760Li. Post-Shanghai, you'll get a few months to digest. Then at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, BMW is expected to have the production-ready Passive Activity Vehicle on display and the MINI Crossover . It is there, perhaps, that they'll also trot...

Set to replace the current SRX that didn't sell well despite being a perfectly competent machine, the new SRX will debut next month at the Detroit Auto Show as the latest model to continue Cadillac's resurgence as a brand that actually matters in the marketplace. The new SRX promises to be much more appealing to the mainstream, especially if you like drifting on frozen lakes, and really, who doesn't? Check out the vid after the jump and let us know if you think the new SRX will do better than Cadillac's first attempt. Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Spy Photos , Crossovers/CUVs , Lincoln Click above for high-res image gallery of 2010 Lincoln MKT spy shots Just a year after the MKT Concept debuted at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show , Lincoln will be unveiling the production version of its new three-row CUV next month at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show . Fortunately, our spy photographers have snapped the most revealing views yet of this new Lincoln being driven out on the snowy streets of Dearborn. As you can see, the production MKT holds true to the design direction set by the concept with the largest version yet of Lincoln's signature split-wing grille and that conspicuous kink at the base of the C-pillar. In profile, the MKT seems to share a roofline with the Audi Q7 that creates a soft arch from front to back, and the rear gate is also tilted far forward to avoid the upright, boxy look of a traditional SUV or CUV. Though the MKT is based on the same platform and shares many components with the Ford Flex...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , SUVs , Videos , Crossovers/CUVs , BMW Click above to view the teaser video of the BMW X5 M after the jump After countless spy shots and rumors , BMW has finally admitted that an M version of its X5 SAV is on the way. The proof of concept comes in the form of a video released on the automaker's bmw-web.tv site, and not surprisingly, the clip doesn't divulge much about the M-modified 'ute. Bernd Limmer, an exec at BMW M GmbH, discusses the essence of "M-ness" that BMW infuses into all of its Motorsports models, goes into detail about how the different systems interact with each other and then hits the Nurburgring to show off the X5 M's prowess on the Nordschleife. There's still no word on when the BMW X5 M will make it's debut, but considering that the original X5 debuted at the Detroit Auto Show almost a decade ago, the Bimmer boys could have something up their sleeve for the festivities in Motown. Hit the jump to see the...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Chevrolet Click above for high-res image gallery of the 2010 Chevy Equinox Now that General Motors will be getting a cash infusion to stay in business at least through January, the automaker plans to unveil some new products at next month's Detroit Auto Show . The first one we can show you is the second-generation 2010 Chevy Equinox. You might recognize the greenhouse from spy photos we published earlier this year in which which the CUV was misidentified as the Cadillac BRX . While the Equinox gets a complete re-skin for 2010, the new CUV's dimensions are within an inch of the current model in all directions. The Equinox remains a unibody crossover with either front- or all-wheel drive and the same basic suspension layout as before. The platform is an evolution of the current Theta architecture shared with the Saturn Vue. The Equinox's new styling looks more contemporary with prominent wheel arches and the obligatory Chevy twin...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Hybrids/Alternative , Green , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac , Chevrolet , GM , Rumormill Click above for a high-res gallery of the Cadillac Provoq Concept Through some circumstantial evidence, "rumblings" and tea leave-reading, Autoweek has come to the conclusion that General Motors may unveil a new Cadillac model at the Detroit Auto Show powered by the Chevrolet Volt 's range-extending hybrid powertrain. Rumors of a Caddy-badged Volt have been circulated since earlier this year , with Bob Lutz and other GM execs hinting at the possibility of new hybrid model joining the Cadillac line-up. Lutz told reports back in September that "there's definitely room" for an eco-conscious Caddy and that "there's going to have to be some kind of dramatic environmental statement" from GM's luxury brand. So what form could it take? Opel and Vauxhall versions of the Volt are already planned, but a Cadillac variant would likely be...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Spy Photos , Crossovers/CUVs , Saab If you were to order a black Saab 9-4, as of now you can almost see what your CUV will look like. If things go as originally planned, it will go into production in about a year. Up front is pure Saab, the rear hatch couldn't say SportCombi more forcefully, and the sloping shoulder line and window profile are 9-5. It's supposed to go into production in about a year, but hopefully we'll get to see it in Detroit in a few weeks since who knows where things will be a year from now. We already knew the Ford Flex-based CUV was headed to Detroit, with power provided by either a 3.7-liter or a 3.5-liter Ecoboost V6. Both six- and seven-passenger seating arrangements will be offered, along with Blind Spot Monitoring and a Cross Traffic Alert system which utilizes two sonar modules to notify drivers that a vehicle has moved into their blind spot by shining a light on the corresponding outside mirror. Sales are expected to begin later in 2009 and Ford is insistent that the MKT won't share any body panels with its platform sibling. The facelifted MKZ sedan will sport the new split-wing grille...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Lincoln Click above for a high-res gallery of the Lincoln MKT concept. As reported earlier , Lincoln has given the MKT crossover the green-light, with the production version set to debut in Detroit this January and sales beginning sometime next year. The MKT is built atop the same platform as the Ford Flex, but Lincoln insists that the two models won't share a single body panel. Power will be provided by either a 3.7-liter V6 or a 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine, equipped with direct-injection and a turbocharger, however a hybrid drivetrain will not be offered. A six-speed automatic gearbox, complete with paddle shifters, will be standard, along with seven-passenger seating, a power-folding third-row seat, heated and cooled, first- and second-row thrones and the SYNC in-car entertainment system. Options will include a new sat-nav, Sirius Travel Link, an auto-park feature (similar to that found on the Lexus LS460) and a Cross Traffic Alert...
