Filed under: Car Buying , Economy , Sedans/Saloons , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti , Nissan While most of the attention Nissan has been getting recently revolves around the GT-R sportscar , its bread-and-butter models, like the Sentra S and the new Murano, have gotten slight bumps in price. The compact sedan sees an increase from $16,930, which included a $660 destination charge to $17,030, including a higher $695 destination charge. The Murano was just redesigned and launched with a mildly lowered price for this model year. Not so much anymore, as it now jumps to $29,250, including a slightly raised $780 destination charge. In addition to these incremental sticker price adjustments, Nissan has announced a mild increase to the destination charges for all of its 2008 and 2009 model-year vehicles carrying Nissan or Infiniti badges. Though Nissan has yet to comment on the reason for the price hikes, we'd imagine that the weak U.S. dollar and high fuel prices undoubtedly play a part in both...

Filed under: Car Buying , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti click above for high-res gallery of the 2009 FX35 and FX50 Infiniti has announced pricing for its 2009 FX35 and FX50 , and if you're jonesing for some of that "bionic cheetah" styling, the base price for the FX35 RWD with the venerable 3.5L VQ V6 producing 303 horsepower is $40,950. If you'd prefer a CUV that can rotate all four wheels at once, the FX35 AWD jumps up to $42,350. Finally, the bid dog of the bunch, the FX50 AWD with its 390-hp 5.0L V8, starts at a heady $56,700. All FX models get a seven-speed automatic with magnesium paddle shifters for do-it-yourself shifting, as well. These prices don't include destination and handling charges, which haven't been set yet but were $815 for the current-gen FX. And the pricing doesn't stop there, as each model has a few option packages that may boost the price even further. The FX35 is available with a Premium Package ($2,350), Navigation Package ($2,850) that...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Euro , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti , Nissan The US market may have made Infiniti what it is today, but Nissan's luxury arm is putting more power and better equipment into its vehicles destined for sale in Europe later this year. Engineers have made 300-500 changes per car, including tweaked styling, high-end knobs, bigger brakes, better windshield wipers, improved stability systems, and a seven-speed automatic transmission. Infiniti is also planning to add the 3.7-liter V6 to the overseas 2009 FX , which is more powerful than the 3.5-liter engine we'll receive Stateside. With no four-cylinder or diesel models planned until 2010, Infiniti will still be playing catch-up with its European competitors for the near-term. The reason for the many improvements is that Infiniti is facing an up-hill battle to woo luxury customers away from very entrenched Euro brands like Mercedes and BMW. That's all well and good, but why not just make most of these improvements...

Filed under: Convertibles , Coupes , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti , Nissan , Earnings/Financials Click above for a high-res gallery of the Infiniti G37 coupe. Carlos Ghosn assembled the press this morning in Japan to announce Nissan/Infiniti's financial results for 2007, and despite sales in Japan dropping by 2.5-percent last year, global sales are up by 8.2-percent, with a 3.0-percent increase in U.S. sales and a massive 17.9-percent bump in Europe. All told, Nissan took in $94.62 billion last year, with a $6.91 billion operating profit. Nissan attributes its successes abroad to the release of 11 new models worldwide, including the Altima Coupe, GT-R, Murano, Infiniti EX CUV and G37 coupe. The automaker has its sights set firmly on the future, with a five-year plan that focuses on three key commitments: quality leadership, an industry leading zero-emissions vehicle program and a five-percent growth in revenue between 2008 and 2012. The program is called Nissan "GT" 2012, with...

Filed under: Coupes , Euro , Crossovers/CUVs , Hatchbacks , Infiniti Infiniti is gearing up for its entrance into Europe, but something's missing from its lineup: a small car. With BMW's 1-series being a popular choice for badge-obsessed consumers abroad, Infiniti needs something similar to solidify its place in the luxury hierarchy, but what form it will take is unclear. According to Autocar , Infiniti insiders are planning to unleash something that aims to compete with the Audi A3 and BMW 1-series, but unnamed sources at Infiniti are quick to point out that the shape will be something entirely different than what's currently being offered by its competitors. The two options, according to Autocar , include a smaller crossover that would slot in below the EX35 or a hardtop convertible. Whatever it looks like, expect the new B-class Infiniti to be revealed sometime in 2010. [Source: Autocar via JustAuto - Sub. Req.] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Geneva Motor Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti Click above image for a high-res gallery of the unveiling of the 2009 FX from Geneva Last week we showed you a teaser shot of the headlight of the all-new 2009 Infiniti FX . Tonight in Geneva we saw the whole thing. Carlos Ghosn himself introduced the new FX at a club-like venue just down the road from the Palexpo. Accompanied by some choreographed theatrics, the new FX dropped from the ceiling and landed front and center ahead of its EX37 and G37 siblings, which will join it in the new Infiniti dealerships starting up in Europe this year. The redesigned 2009 FX will come in three different flavors, topping out with the FX50 we saw here. As the name tells us, it features a new 5.0L V8, said to be good for 390HP and more than 500nM of torque. Fairly stout numbers compared to the outgoing 4.5. The 2009 FX should start appearing at North American Infiniti dealers by June. You can read about the rest of the changes to this fairly highly...

Filed under: Geneva Motor Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti A certain sales manager from a certain dealership in Long Island was kind enough to take a little bit of the wind out of Infiniti's sails ahead of its unveiling of the redesigned FX CUV. The detailed headlamp shot above was posted on an Infiniti FX forum (who knew?), and pretty much confirms the styling tweaks the new fascia will get, particularly when you imagine it on the set of spy shots we've seen already. The only thing that's left to the imagination is the reconfigured rear end, which will likely sport some new tail lamps and a redesigned bumper. We'd be remiss not to point out that it's not in the dealer's best interest to include his name and contact information in his forum signature, lest Infiniti's corporate communications folks come calling. Thanks for the tip Jonathan. Gallery: Spy Shots: 2009 Infiniti FX [Source: InfinitiFX.org ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: SUVs , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti , Nissan While an Infiniti-badged GT-R sedan might seem semi-plausible, this rendering from Best Car is about as probable as a mentally balanced child star. A GT-R SUV? Why not? Well, let's start with the ugly factor. The Nissan GT-R isn't the prettiest vehicle on the block to begin with; jack it up, add a couple of extra doors and a misshapen hatch and you've got an amalgamation of design cues that's causing a mild burning sensation in our eyes. With 480 hp and all-wheel-drive, stranger things have been produced; the Porsche Cayenne Turbo comes to mind, and if this monstrosity ever comes to production, that's likely the benchmark it'll be aiming for. Filed under: Euro , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti Click above to view high-res gallery of the 2009 Infiniti EX37 Euro-spec Infiniti is ready to cross over into Europe for the first time in late 2008 with a lineup that includes its highly desirable G37 coupe and sedan, as well as the next-generation FX crossover and this, the EX37. Unlike the more docile Infiniti EX35 we recently reviewed in the Autoblog Garage , the EX37, as its moniker suggests, is powered by the new 3.7L VQ V6 that's also used in the G37 cars. In the EX37, it produces a RAV4-humbling 305 horsepower and 258 pound feet of torque and is mated to a seven-speed automatic rather than the five-speed auto used in the States. Suddenly, the 3.5L V6 in the EX35 we just reviewed with 297 hp and 253 lb-ft of torque just doesn't seem to cut it. The 3.7L V6 should make the EX37 one of the fastest compact crossovers in the world, as well as one of the best handling since its based on the same platform as the G37 and Nissan 350Z...

Filed under: Garage , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti Click above for high-res gallery of the Infiniti EX35 Infiniti first showed the world its new EX35 as a concept at last year's New York Auto Show and then put it on sale in fall essentially unchanged. Although the Acura RDX has been described as a sports car in CUV clothes, it's based on a fundamentally front-wheel-drive architecture. If Honda had instead taken the S2000 roadster, stretched it and jacked it up a bit, they would have come up with something more akin to the EX35. In fact, that's almost exactly what Nissan did. The EX35 is based on the platform of the G35 sedan/G37 coupe and, of course, the fun loving 350Z. If you want a crossover with sports car genes, it would be hard to find something more suitable. Of course, wearing a badge from the Infiniti side of the family tree means getting a handsomely tailored suit and all the latest high-tech gizmos to go along with the go-fast hardware. It also means a few sacrifices...

Filed under: Recalls/TSBs , Safety , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti , Nissan As every automaker knows, new models aren't without their growing pains. Aside from all the other issues to contend with while launching a new vehicle, there's always the possibility that something is going to go amiss after deliveries begin. Such is the case with Nissan, who just informed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that 11,511 2009 Nissan Muranos and 4,854 2009 Infiniti EX35s have to be recalled to fix a problem with the passenger airbag. While we may fondly look back to the days when such issues could be resolved with some chicken wire and electrical tape, the airbag problem should be an easy fix since it's due to incorrectly programmed software. We're assuming it won't be more than some kind of reflash of the computer, but for those of you rolling in one Nissanfiniti's new 'utes, you might want to give your dealer a call so the person to your right has a better...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Geneva Motor Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti Click image for photo gallery The official unveiling of the 2009 Infiniti FX in Geneva is just a few weeks away, but prototypes are out and about as we speak, and one of Brenda Priddy's minions caught a copper-colored example in Los Angeles yesterday. While the head and taillights are taped off, not much is left to the imagination. The car's basic overall shape remains the same, but a more pronounced grille opening dominates the protruding nose. It's flanked by angry-looking reshaped headlamps that stretch backward onto the fenders. It's certainly a departure from the more reserved look of the current one's schnoz. The tape running the length of the body obscures a character line that's been seen in other photos . Out back, pointier taillamps mimic the reshaped lighting up front, and the integrated spoiler on the rear hatch is now body-colored, as opposed to the blacked-out piece on the current...

Filed under: SUVs , Safety , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti Infiniti has finally joined the ranks of other automakers deemed worthy of the IIHS' Top Safety Pick with its recently introduced EX35 CUV. The luxurious and techalicious cute 'ute has garnered a fair amount of praise in recent months for its combination of high-class amenities and high-tech wizardry, but the Institute's focus is set squarely on how it avoids crashes and how it fairs in front, side and rear impacts. In order to receive the IIHS' designation, the vehicle has to provide "superior overall crash protection" and incorporate electronic stability control, both of which, the EX35 apparently provides. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's press release is posted below the fold. [Source: IIHS] Continue reading Infiniti EX35 receives IIHS' Top Safety Pick Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Car Buying , Crossovers/CUVs , Infiniti Entry luxury crossovers are only a few weeks from getting a new competitor, and the Infiniti EX35 will be priced to sell. The base EX begins at a reasonable $31,300, and includes a 297 HP 3.5L V6, five speed automatic, and six air bags. Infiniti also offers a RWD EX Journey for $34,850, and leather-trimmed seats, moon roof, and front and rear sensing systems come standard. AWD is a $1,400 option on both models. Infiniti also offers several option packages that will bring the little CUV over the $40,000 mark, but that's the standard top end for much of the segment. The EX35 has good looks, a willing chassis based off the G35 sedan, and an outstanding VQ engine. At these prices, Infinity should meet sales quotas and steal buyers from other luxury nameplates at the same time. The EX35 will be available beginning December 21. Check out the press release after the jump. [Source: Infiniti] Continue reading Infiniti prices 2008 EX35 just...
