  • Cadillac Provoq concept evolves into 2010 SRX

Filed under: Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac Click above for high-res gallery of the 2010 Cadillac SRX If the vehicle pictured above looks vaguely familiar, it should. We basically saw it last January at CES and the Detroit Auto Show as the Cadillac Provoq concept . Replace the slatted grille with a standard Cadillac unit and the E-Flex fuel cell drivetrain with a conventional gas V6 and you have the new 2010 Cadillac SRX. The new SRX should be on the streets by this time next year replacing the current tall wagon that has only been marginally successful. Going forward, Cadillac has basically taking the first-gen SRX and split it into two vehicles, each of which is more focused on a particular segment. This vehicle that continues to wear the SRX badge will be a chunkier, more SUV-like vehicle, while those looking for a more car-like ride can go for the new CTS Sport Wagon. Cadillac isn't give out a lot of details about its new CUV yet, but that rarely stops us from some speculation. While...
  • Spy Shots: 2010 Cadillac SRX caught in full glory

Filed under: Spy Photos , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Cadillac SRX spy shots Our inside sources tell us Cadillac is very close to officially debuting its 2010 SRX crossover, but they can take their sweet time now that we have these new spy shots of the Wreath and Crest CUV in nothing but some checkered tape. With all the baggy covering gone from this prototype, we can clearly see its styling closely mimics that of the Provoq Concept , which Rick Wagoner introduced at CES last January. There are a couple of areas where the realities of production have toned down the concept's flair, but the vehicle's overall shape and detail remains. Built on GM's Theta Premium platform, the new SRX replaces the old model that was larger and a surprisingly poor seller. It was surprising because the old SRX was an athletic CUV that seemed to offer on paper what buyers wanted. This new model appears to be a smidge smaller and will likely offer more fuel efficient...
  • Leaked slides preview GM's future

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Wagons/Estates , Crossovers/CUVs , Buick , Cadillac , Chevrolet , GM , Saab Click any image for a slightly larger shot. Earlier in the week, a handful of tiny images from General Motor's presentation to employees leaked onto the Web, providing a glimpse into the future of Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick and Saab. As the General's spin-meisters try to console both Wall Street investors and tepid consumers after Black Tuesday's depressing announcements , they've finally released these all-too-small pics into the wild. Aside from GM's plans to reduce white-collar expenditures by 20-percent, eliminate salaried employee's health care after age 65 and a cut its way to liquidity to the tune of $15 billion by the end of 2009, Bob Lutz dropped the bomb that the current iteration of the Beat isn't coming to the U.S. and that the 40+ mpg Chevrolet Cruze won't be immediately available to North American consumers after it debuts at the Paris Motor...
  • Cadillac CTS wagon coming in 2009, production Provoq in 2010

Filed under: Coupes , Wagons/Estates , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac Click above for a high-res gallery of the Cadillac CTS Wagon. Cadillac's product onslaught will continue with another iteration of the CTS that takes aim at the Kraut-wagons from Mercedes and BMW. The CTS wagon will debut in 2009 and will be sold worldwide, and it's expected that the CTS coupe will debut later that year. As expected , the Provoq concept will replace the SRX in 2010 and will be built atop a new premium platform created by blending the Theta and Epsilon architectures. Power will be provided by a V6 and Cadillac's general manager, Jim Taylor, expects annual sales to land somewhere between 60,000 and 70,000 units. • 2010 Cadillac BRX/Provoq will become new SRX

Filed under: Spy Photos , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac , GM Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Cadillac Provoq spy shost If you're a big fan of the current Cadillac SRX, you'll be happy to know that the name will soldier on past 2010 when Cadillac's first CUV is replaced by the production version of the Provoq concept , which is often referred to as the BRX. Inside Line is reporting that GM execs decided the SRX name has enough cache with customers to continue using it instead of the rumored BRX . While the name will stay the same, the vehicle will be entirely new with a FWD platform shared with Saab that replaces the current RWD Sigma one that also underpins the CTS and STS. Engines are rumored to be a base 2.8L V6 and and the direct-inject 3.6L powerplant tuned to around 300 ponies. The new platform will also give GM the opportunity to use technology like its plug-in two-mode system in future Cadillacs without re-engineering it from the ground up. Gallery: Cadillac BRX...
  • GM considers sharing E-Flex among brands, sky is blue

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Sedans/Saloons , Etc. , Green , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac , Chevrolet , Honda , Saturn Click image for a gallery of the Saturn Flextreme At its annual dealer meeting in San Francisco, what's described as having been a "passing remark" seems to be generating some buzz. Automotive News reports that a GM spokesperson said that the Chevy Volt's underlying technology could make its way into offerings from the automaker's other brands. While the report describes an excited dealer's reaction, the idea of shared E-Flex itself is hardly surprising. For instance, we've seen E-Flex concepts for Saturn/ Opel (Flextreme) and Cadillac ( Provoq ) already, and sharing the tech makes sense when you consider that consumer interest will probably be high whenever the Volt is ultimately produced, and spreading the wealth gives GM multiple avenues (and price points) at which it can cash in on the investment. The General already shares...
  • Detroit 2008: GM Style 2008, Music, Fashion and Cars

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Etc. , Crossovers/CUVs , Supercars , Buick , Cadillac , Chevrolet , GMC , HUMMER , Saturn , Celebrities Last Saturday night before the Press Days began for the 2008 edition of the Detroit Auto Show, the 2nd annual GM Style event took place in a huge tent set up in a parking lot near the Renaissance Center headquarters of General Motors. Like last year's event, this runway show featured cars and fashions, but the feel of it was a bit different this year. This time last year, GM had yet to make its big design comeback breakthrough, for instance. Also, the cars were almost secondary to the celebrities last January. This time around, a year after the CTS, Malibu and Volt debuted in the days following the first GM Style event, the red carpet was gone and the fashions were worn by anonymous models, with musical accompaniment from Mary J Blige, Maroon 5 and Kid Rock. For 2008, the cars were the real stars...
  • Spy Shots: Production Provoq, a.k.a. the Cadillac BRX

Filed under: Spy Photos , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac click above to view more spy shots of the Cadillac BRX With the introduction of the Cadillac Provoq Concept at CES last week, we believe the design of Cadillac's upcoming little CUV is quite out of the bag. Compare these spy shots of what is believed to be a Cadillac BRX prototype to our shots of the Provoq Concept from this week's Detroit Auto Show. Pretty similar, right? This leads us to the conclusion that the Provoq Concept essentially is the BRX. While the Provoq is technically an E-Flex concept that uses a series hybrid drivetrain in conjunction with a hydrogen fuel cell, the production version would most likely share engines with its Theta platform-mate, the Saturn Vue. Cadillac's CUV, however, may be available with the direct-inject version of GM's 3.6L V6 with over 300 hp, though that could be wishful thinking on our part. Otherwise, expect the non-direct-inject version of the same engine to be offered, and possibly...
  • Detroit 2008: The Cadillac Provoq shows its face in the Midwest

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Green , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac click above for more live high-res images of the Cadillac Provoq Concept We've already covered Cadillac's Provoq E-Flex fuel-cell vehicle during its first public appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show last week, but GM also rolled it across the stage here in Detroit. There were no additional technical details or hints towards production plans (either for the E-Flex powertrain or the BRX crossover that this design represents), but we at least got to spend a few minutes up close and personal with the concept to snap some shots of the whiter-than-the-pure-driven-snow interior . Also note the chromed cowl vent . Oh, and the Provoq wears what has to be the skinniest tires we've seen on a concept car in recent memory. • Pics Aplenty: Cadillac Provoq Live Reveal

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrids/Alternative , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac , GM Click image for a hi-res gallery of the Cadillac Provoq at CES Fresh from the floor of the Sands, where GM supreme leader Rick Wagoner delivered the CES keynote, we have photos of the Cadillac Provoq fuel cell concept, courtesy of our own Sam Abuelsamid. The Provoq, as you likely know by know, makes use of the E-Flex architecture that also underpinned last year's Chevy Volt and Opel Flextreme concepts. If you like what you see, plan on seeing more of it in the not-too-distant future. The styling of the Provoq is likely very close to what we'll see when Cadillac eventually pulls the wraps off its upcoming BRX crossover. That's down the line, howeve. In the meantime, check out the gallery below for our first look at the Provoq in the metal. Gallery: CES 2008: Cadillac Provoq Live reveal Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • CES 2008: Cadillac Provoq Fuel Cell Concept revealed!

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Hybrids/Alternative , CES , Green , Tech , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac Click on the Cadillac Provoq concept for a high-res image gallery var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/autos/Cadillac_Provoq_Concept_debuts_at_CES_2008'; Following the introductions of the Chevrolet Volt and Opel Flextreme during 2007 auto show season, Cadillac is bringing forth a third design based on the E-Flex architecture. The Cadillac Provoq concept is intended to help give the brand an image of premium sustainability by updating the fuel cell E-Flex powertrain that was shown in a Chevy Volt at the Shanghai Motor Show last year . The Provoq is a luxury crossover design that's considerably larger than the Volt. With updated Cadillac styling cues on a 180-inch long CUV body, it's stretched 10 inches longer than a Volt to allow comfortable seating for five passengers. The Provoq is built around GM's fifth-generation fuel cell stack combined with a 9kWh lithium ion battery...
  • GM recalling over 300,000 vehicles

Filed under: Convertibles , Sedans/Saloons , Recalls/TSBs , Safety , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac , GM , Pontiac , Saturn After seeing a variety of reports cropping up this afternoon, we were finally able to get some hard information regarding a recall that's affecting 313,000 passenger vehicles and crossovers from General Motors. The recall involves a seal on the rear axle pinion that's apparently prone to leaking, which has the possibility of locking the driven wheels and causing a loss of control. GM will be recalling 2005-2007 Cadillac CTS models, STS sedans and SRX crossovers, as well as the 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice and it's platform sibling the 2007 Saturn Sky. All told, that's 275,936 vehicles in the U.S., along with around 38,000 vehicles in Canada, Mexico, the Middle East and Asia. [Source: Business Week] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Spy shots: 2010 Cadillac BRX spotted

Filed under: Spy Photos , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac , GM Cadillac's lineup is looking better than it has in years, with the hot-selling CTS and the defacto standard for large SUVs, the Escalade . While the SRX crossover is an Autoblog favorite , it isn't experiencing the kind of sales success as many of its rivals. Cadillac appears to have another crossover up its sleeve and the spy photographers at KGP caught it testing with the Saturn Vue on which it's based. With the two vehicles next to one another, it's easy to see the similarities, but since the new model is destined to be a Cadillac, it's likely the two vehicles will share very few body panels. Although the BRX is heavily camo'd, we can see more angular lines, including a hard crease across the Caddy's profile, and the Vue's rounded rear appears to be gone as well. The BRX will likely serve as Cadillac's answer to the Acura MDX , Lincoln MKX , and Lexus RX350 , and is expected to go on in 2009...
