Filed under: Convertibles , Coupes , Videos , Paris Motor Show , Lexus Click above to watch video after the jump It's always fun to see the engineering behind hard top convertibles. The latest member of the breed comes from Lexus in the form of the 2009 IS250C . This new derivative of the IS250 sedan sports a three-piece aluminum roof that retracts in a "world's fastest" 20 seconds. Video proof of the event taking place has been released and we've embedded it after the break. The new 250C's most logical competitor comes from BMW, whose 3 Series convertible features a folding hard top of its very own. When the new Lexus goes on sale next summer in Europe, followed shortly thereafter in the United States, it will offer buyers a replacement for the expensive SC 430, which is set to make a graceful exit from the marketplace in short order. Filed under: Convertibles , Paris Motor Show , Lexus Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2009 Lexus IS250C Lexus has chopped off two doors and the roof from the IS250 to create the IS250C, due to arrive in Europe in the summer of 2009, and the U.S. shortly thereafter. The 2009 Lexus IS250C features a three-piece aluminum roof that retracts in a "world's fastest" 20 seconds, and features revised overhangs 15mm (front) and 55mm (rear) longer than the sedan, a new fog lamp design and a rising beltline that integrates into the revised haunches. The IS250C's rear end leaves a lot to be desired, with an odd assortment of angles terminating into a set of awkwardly placed LED taillights. With the top up, nothing seems to seamlessly blend together, looking like an ill-advised amalgamation of the outgoing SC430 and BMW 335i. Inside, thing get mildly better - in typical staid Lexus tradition - with a set of rollover hoops for the rear seat passengers, a 12-speaker Mark Levinson...

Filed under: Convertibles , Paris Motor Show , Lexus It's been rumored for months, but now it's confirmed: Lexus will unveil the IS 250 convertible in Paris this October. The Lexus IS 250 C will be the third derivative of the IS range and will go into production early next year. IS 250 and 350 variants are planned, but in order to capitalize on the gotta-have-it crowd's penchant for The New - and the demise of the SC 430 - Lexus will likely roll out the 350 variant further down the line. Expect an IS F version to follow sometime in late 2009 or early 2010. Make the jump for the press release. Filed under: Convertibles , Sedans/Saloons , Lexus Click above for a hi-res gallery of the Lexus IS-F The higher-ups at Toyota may have decided to axe the replacement for the Lexus SC convertible , but don't get too used to the idea of a world without a wind-in-your-hair Lexus. Word has it they've given the green light to a convertible version of the current IS sedan . Of course, lopping off the doors and roof of a four-door is hardly unheard of, as that's just what Audi did to make the A4 convertible, but while that 'vert is set to be replaced by the A5 cabrio, Lexus is going the opposite direction. The IS cabrio is tipped to come in 250 and 350 varieties, with Lexus reasoning that there'd be no market for an IS-F convertible. But fret not, as the same reports suggest that a lightweight IS-F sedan is on its way, again going the opposite way of the Germans as BMW just canceled the M3 CSL program . Things are about to get a whole lot busier at the Lexus plants in Tahara...

Filed under: Car Buying , Convertibles , Coupes , Sedans/Saloons , Supercars , Lexus , Toyota Sales of the bulbous Lexus SC 430, one of the vehicles that kick-started the current hardtop convertible fad in the U.S., have slowed so significantly that Toyota's luxury brand has reportedly canceled its replacement. The four-place, V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive vehicle never fit well into any specific niche, as it boasted neither the sportiness of the ragtop Jaguar XK and Porsche 911, nor the snob appeal of the BMW 6 Series. Through the first six months of this year, Lexus sold only 1,230 SC's, down 40% from last year. What fans the Lexus sport coupes/convertible does have need not worry, however, as the brand will be launching the much more potent (and substantially more impressive) LF-A supercar at some point in the future. According to Inside Line , the SC isnt the only Toyota product without a future. The Avalon entry-level Buick luxury sedan is also on the chopping block. Fans of...

Filed under: Car Buying , Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Lexus Click above for high-res gallery of the Lexus LF-A Roadster The last time we talked about the price of the Lexus LF-A , we had only the car's price in China and a whole lot of speculation to go on. The car's retail in China was set at $264,700, and based on that a Lexus fan site did it's best guestimation to arrive at a US price of approximately $130,000. Say it with us now: oh boy, was that wrong. Lexus has said the first number of the car's price will be a "2," and Inside Line has word that the car might run $225,000. That is more than either a Gallardo or an F430 Spider, including European delivery and two weeks of vacation in Via Reggio. The LF-A convertible will cost even more . Inside Line says "Lexus is gunning for the Italians." With that kind of price, we actually believe Lexus is sidestepping the Italians and has simply declared, "Your comparisons are futile...

Filed under: Detroit Auto Show , Convertibles , Coupes , Hybrids/Alternative , Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Green , Crossovers/CUVs , Lexus , Australia Click above for a high-res gallery of the Lexus LF-A Roadster concept. Lexus Australia's chief executive, John Roca, gave up a number of product details to The Australian in an interview this past weekend, including the addition of an "F" variant of the GS sedan and possibly a full-size LS limo. Both models are aimed to attack luxury stalwarts Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz by offering a number of high-performance variants and also developing a new model that would slot in below the IS sedan to take on the BMW 1-series and the Audi A3. That model is still a few years away, but it will be an integral part of Lexus' commitment to reach one million global sales in the next two to three years. The other element includes offering hybrid versions of every vehicle it sells, plus the introduction of a hybrid-only model that will...

Filed under: Spy Photos , Convertibles , Lexus It may be hard to tell from the picture, but what you're looking at, according to our sources, is a test mule for a Lexus IS convertible. Information accompanying the spy shot suggests that the car is destined for production by the end of 2009 and will feature the full range of engines available in the Lexus IS sedan, from the 177-hp European diesel 220d to the 423-hp IS-F (!). If the information is correct, the IS cabrio would be the first body style derivative of the Lexus sports sedan since the previous generation model spawned the SportCross wagon, and would slot in the Lexus line-up under the SC 430 convertible and, if built, the LF-A Roadster . However, as one forum member pointed out, by 2009 the IS sedan would be entering its fifth year of production and itself be due for replacement soon thereafter. Thanks for the tip, Kevin! Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Convertibles , Sports/GTs , Lexus Click above image for a high resolution gallery of photos We were left hanging yesterday with a ton of pictures of Lexus' brand new LF-A Roadster Concept , but no information to go along with them. Now Lexus has filled us in by releasing information and rather vague specifications on the car, although it's nothing we wouldn't have guessed. The LF-A Roadster is essentially based on its coupe brother that first made its debut back in 2005 in Detroit . A revised version was also shown in Detroit last year . Power comes from a V10 under 5.0 liters with something north of 500 horsepower, and shifting is done via a sequential transmission with paddle shifters. A significant change to the Roadster version, besides not having a fixed roof, is the retractable rear wing that adjusts according to the vehicle's speed. By continuing with the LF-A series, we can only hope that this means Lexus is still planning...
