Filed under: Aftermarket , Concept Cars , SEMA , Tuners , SUVs , Mercedes-Benz Click above for a hi-res gallery of the GLK SEMA show cars Perhaps you've heard: Mercedes-Benz has this new SUV called the GLK , and it's not just the Sex and the City audience that's being targeted. The compact ute's getting-to-know-you tour will make a stop at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where four concept versions will be on display. We already told you about RENNtech's hybrid Rally Racer show truck, and now we have some info on the other three versions that'll join it in Vegas. Naturally, BRABUS will represent, skinning the GLK300 Bluetec in Widestar duds, new wheels, and the de rigeur custom interior. No power upgrade yet, it seems, but knowing BRABUS, they'll have a version putting out approximately a trillion horsepower by the time the GLK is in customers' hands. Boulevard Customs is prepping the GLK "Urban Whip" , a garish creation sporting 26" wheels and...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupes , Wagons/Estates , Euro , Videos , Paris Motor Show , Mercedes-Benz Click above for photo gallery. Follow the jump for video. If you find yourself in Paris at the auto show next month, you'll see the Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION on the floor. (It's so fascinating, it requires all caps, you see.) Chances are, the video embedded after the jump will be playing on a variety of screens behind it and around the Mercedes stand in general. It's your typical car show stuff: light electronica over moving pictures in which the car itself never moves. Still, the panning camera gives you a better view of some of the lines likely to be found on the next E-Class family. Just dim the lights a little and imagine the car surrounded by watchful Germans who are, in turn, surrounded by a number of people speaking French. See? We just saved you airfare to Paris. Thanks for the tip, Guy. Gallery: Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION [Source: YouTube via TheCarFanatic...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Chrysler , Mercedes Benz The Chrysler Pacifica Advance Design Center, first opened in 1983, is credited with penning the Plymouth Prowler concept ( pictured above ), Dodge Challenger concept , Jeep Compass , and Dodge Intrepid concepts. Unfortunately, the Design Center closed earlier this year as Chrysler streamlined operations. Now, Mercedes-Benz will bring it back to life as they move their design studio from its current 13,000 square foot location in Irvine, to the larger 35,000 square foot former Chrysler location in Carlsbad, California. While both parties have confirmed the pending sale, terms and move-in dates have not been released. [Source: AutoWeek ] Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrids/Alternative , Geneva Motor Show , Green , BMW , Mercedes Benz The Magna MILA Alpin concept car shown in Geneva has gotten the attention of both Mercedes and BMW. The button-cute 4-wheeler rode on a flexible platform, could utilize a variety of fuel sources, climb 45-degree angles, and get up to 120 mph. Those capabilities, and the ability to be easily rebodied and cost-effectively manufactured, have the two premium brands looking at ways to bolster their lineups and enviro-credentials. Mercedes is known to be working on developing a 4-wheel-drive A-Class sedan . While the sandwich floors in the A-Class and B-Class cars were specifically created to allow flexible drivetrains, it is open to exploring options with BMW. Those other Bavarians in blue and white appear to be even more serious, having engaged Magna to discuss strategy and market demand. The MILA could provide a sound platform for BMW's electric car rumblings , as well as cost-effective, outsourced...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupes , Wagons/Estates , Paris Motor Show , Hatchbacks , Mercedes Benz , Rendered Speculation Emerging reports suggest that Mercedes is gearing up to preview the new CLK coupe with a shooting brake concept at the upcoming Paris Auto Salon in October. For those unfamiliar, "shooting brake" is Euro-speak for a three-door estate wagon or extended hatchback, originally coined by coachbuilders for custom motor carriages made for hunting. Although the CLK Shooting Brake is expected to show up as a concept car, reports suggest that Mercedes could actually build it in that form as an alternative bodystyle to the more conventional coupe and convertible variants replacing the ones we have now. Otherwise styling is expected to follow along the lines laid down by the S-Class sedan, like the E-Class sedan which the CLK is made to accompany in Merc's mid-range line-up. Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Crossovers/CUVs , Mercedes Benz Click the Vision GLK for a high-res photo gallery After countless spy photos and leaks, the Mercedes-Benz GLK is finally officially official. The new compact SUV from Stuttgart will get it's public debut in two weeks at the Detroit Auto Show. At 14.8 ft. long the GLK is only about three inches longer than a Ford Escape. It borrows a lot of the sharp edged styling cues of the big GL SUV but carries them somewhat awkwardly on it's much shorter body. The GLK Vision is powered by Daimler's latest 168 hp 2.2-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder paired up with a seven speed automatic transmission. The diesel uses the latest fourth-gen common rail injection system that operates at 29,000 psi on the inlet side with Bluetec urea injection to clean up the exhaust. Mercedes has reworked the 4MATIC all wheel drive system to reduce the friction to the point where it's as efficient as a two wheel drive setup....

Filed under: Concept Cars , LA Auto Show , Hybrids/Alternative , Sedans/Saloons , Green , Mercedes Benz Mercedes-Benz is confusing the blog out of us with its nomenclature. Sure, it's usually pretty straightforward: one letter for the class, three numbers for the (approximate) engine displacement. Tack on 4Matic for all-wheel-drive, chop off a zero and add AMG for the performance models. But they just about lost us on this one. In Frankfurt Mercedes unveiled two new hybrid versions of the S-Class : the S300 Bluetec Hybrid with diesel-electric power, and the S400 Hybrid with gas-electric power. In Los Angeles, however, they took the wraps off the S400 Bluetec Hybrid. Still with us? Well, they lost us, too. This version packs a V6 diesel coupled with an electric motor to provide 265 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque, resulting in what Mercedes calls V8 performance with four-cylinder economy: 0-60 in 7.2 seconds and 40.5 mpg on the highway. While the previous S400 Hybrid unveiled in Frankfurt...
