Really, you don't say? Last we checked, General Motors didn't seem to have any problems extracting plenty of performance from its 6.2-liter supercharged and 7.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 engines, and the majority of the development work has already been done for a Caddy installation . Additionally, we've heard some rumors of a possible twin-turbo version of GM's excellent 3.6-liter direct injection six, which could find a cozy spot under the hood of the next Cadillac sedan. Cadillac is also said to be reconsidering its premium large sedan, where the V12 was originally intended to reside. In its stead, GM's classiest division will focus in on the replacement for the STS and DTS sedans. Also rumored is a new naming convention, as if the waters weren't already...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupes , Cadillac Click above for a high-res gallery of the Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept. Cadillac has a winner on its hands with the new CTS. We've driven it , we like it and offering a coupe version for people that don't need to lug an extra couple of passengers around is a no-brainer. GM is hoping that the new CTS will bring sales of the sedan back to the levels set in 2005 and adding another model into the CTS fold will help seal the deal. Dealers were shown the CTS coupe concept during the NADA conference and, according to reports from Automotive News , they were foaming at the mouth to get some of that two-door hotness into showrooms. Although there was no confirmation that it would be built, judging by the reception it's gotten from both dealers, the press and consumers alike, we know it's just a matter of time. Automotive News reports that a GM spokesperson said that the Chevy Volt's underlying technology could make its way into offerings from the automaker's other brands. While the report describes an excited dealer's reaction, the idea of shared E-Flex itself is hardly surprising. For instance, we've seen E-Flex concepts for Saturn/ Opel (Flextreme) and Cadillac ( Provoq ) already, and sharing the tech makes sense when you consider that consumer interest will probably be high whenever the Volt is ultimately produced, and spreading the wealth gives GM multiple avenues (and price points) at which it can cash in on the investment. The General already shares...

Like last year's event, this runway show featured cars and fashions, but the feel of it was a bit different this year. This time last year, GM had yet to make its big design comeback breakthrough, for instance. Also, the cars were almost secondary to the celebrities last January. This time around, a year after the CTS, Malibu and Volt debuted in the days following the first GM Style event, the red carpet was gone and the fashions were worn by anonymous models, with musical accompaniment from Mary J Blige, Maroon 5 and Kid Rock. For 2008, the cars were the real stars...

There are four awards given away each year, including Best Concept and Production Car and Best Concept and Production Truck. Cadillac sweeped the car side of things with the CTS-V being honored as Best Production Car and the CTS Coupe Concept named as the Best Concept Car. The BMW X6 , meanwhile, was named Best Production Truck and the Chrysler ecoVoyager Concept nabbed the Best Concept Truck award. The EyesOn Design awards are sponsored by the Detroit Institute of Opthamology and judged by a panel of automotive designers including ex-VP of Design for GM Wayne Cherry, Chrysler's Senior VP of Design Trevor Creed, the renowned Henrik Fisker, GM's VP of Global Design Ed...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Green , Crossovers/CUVs , Cadillac click above for more live high-res images of the Cadillac Provoq Concept We've already covered Cadillac's Provoq E-Flex fuel-cell vehicle during its first public appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show last week, but GM also rolled it across the stage here in Detroit. There were no additional technical details or hints towards production plans (either for the E-Flex powertrain or the BRX crossover that this design represents), but we at least got to spend a few minutes up close and personal with the concept to snap some shots of the whiter-than-the-pure-driven-snow interior . Also note the chromed cowl vent . Oh, and the Provoq wears what has to be the skinniest tires we've seen on a concept car in recent memory. After a brief introduction from Bob Lutz, who ziplined in from his secret lair in the RenCen, the hotly anticipated Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept rolled onstage, with design head Ed Welburn riding 'gun. The Coupe blends the CTS sedan's face with a new, wedge-shaped 2-door body that finishes off with what Ed described as a "hint of Cadillac fin" in the arrangement of the taillamps. The concept's rear had a single central exhaust outlet whose shape is a nod to the chevrons used to dress up the current CTS interior. Speaking of the interior, the CTS was dressed in black with maize-colored sueded accents and contrast stitching. In another departure from...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Coupes , Cadillac , GM Hot off the wire is GM's surprise announcement that Cadillac will unveil a CTS Coupe Concept at its press conference later this morning. We've been expecting a CTS Coupe as part of the diversification of that model's offerings, and this concept should give us a great idea of what the probable production car will look like. Photos won't be released until closer to showtime, and we'll get them up as soon as they're released. Joining the CTS Coupe will be the Cadillac Myst, another hydrogen concept, and of course, you're already familiar with the CTS-V and Escalade Hybrid, which round out the Caddy contingent. Stay tuned for more. [Source: GM] Continue reading Cadillac CTS Coupe Concept to debut later this morning Permalink | Email this | Comments

The Provoq, as you likely know by know, makes use of the E-Flex architecture that also underpinned last year's Chevy Volt and Opel Flextreme concepts. If you like what you see, plan on seeing more of it in the not-too-distant future. The styling of the Provoq is likely very close to what we'll see when Cadillac eventually pulls the wraps off its upcoming BRX crossover. That's down the line, howeve. In the meantime, check out the gallery below for our first look at the Provoq in the metal. Gallery: CES 2008: Cadillac Provoq Live reveal Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrids/Alternative , CES , Green , Cadillac In addition to announcing that General Motors plans to have invest heavily on research of driverless vehicle technology in the coming decade, GM CEO Rick Wagoner will also debut a concept vehicle tomorrow at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas called the Cadillac Provoq. While very few details were released, GM says that the Provoq will be "free from petroleum fuel and emissions." That means the Provoq could be either an all-electric vehicle or possibly another variant of the automaker's E-flex platform that has spawned the Chevy Volt and Opel Flextreme . Those two concepts are both series hybrids with a gas engine and diesel range extender, respectively. While GM did show off the E-flex platform with a hydrogen fuel-cell range extender at last year's Shanghai Motor Show, we've yet to see it paired with a body. Perhaps then the Provoq will be the hydrogen fuel-cell series hybrid concept...
