Filed under: Trucks/Pickups , Recalls/TSBs , Safety , Crossovers/CUVs , Chrysler, LLC. , Dodge The 2008 and 2009 Dodge Ram and 2009 Dodge Journey are being recalled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, each for a different reason. The Ram's windshield wiper motor isn't adequately protected from water, so it could fail completely due to water intrusion. Initial numbers suggest 72,138 Rams are affected. The fix is a stop at the dealership to have some vented wiper motor housings installed. Some 16,852 Dodge Journeys that do not have the optional 115-volt auxiliary power outlet are also being recalled. The unused electrical connector for that optional component could potentially cause a fire. It's the second fire-related recall for the Journey, and akin to the unused connector issue that affected the Town & Country and Grand Caravan. Dealers will remove the fuse and reroute the wiring. Full info on both recalls is available after the jump. Gallery: In the...

Filed under: Chrysler, LLC. , FIAT , Rumormill According to the tea-leaf readers over at Automotive News , the alliance between Fiat and Chrysler is expected to yield at lease six new models for the Pentastar in the next few years - if everything works out. Since Chrysler doesn't really have any truly viable products in the smaller car segments, that will likely be the main focus as the companies work toward meeting at least the 35 mpg CAFE standard, and very possibly an even higher 40+ mpg requirement if CO2 emissions limits come into force. If the project moves ahead, AN believes that North American Chrysler factories may end up building a number number of Fiat and Alfa Romeo vehicles for sale in Chrysler showrooms with their original Italian names including the 500, MiTo and Milano. The Chrysler brands would also get several new products based on Italian platforms, including a sub-Patriot sized Jeep based on the Fiat Panda Cross (pictured above) and a C-segment car based on the Grande...

Filed under: Hirings/Firings/Layoffs , Chrysler, LLC. , UAW/Unions , Canada Remember the worker standoff at Aradco, the Canadian supplier of engine mounts to Chrysler? The automaker had said that the dispute would need to be settled by the end of the week - that would be today, of course - and that's exactly what has happened. According to Canadian Driver , an agreement has been reached between the Canadian Auto Workers union employees and the automaker that sees the displaced employees repaid most of what they were owed, which they claim included a total of $1.7 million in severance, termination and vacation pay. Even though this particular event had a mostly happy ending, union officials in Canada have scolded Chrysler for allowing it to happen in the first place. With a possible bankruptcy looming over two of America's major automakers, this is a salient point that could be revisited time and time again until things get back on track. In Canada's case, though, the country...

Filed under: Government/Legal , Chrysler, LLC. , FIAT , UAW/Unions According to The Detroit News , the United Auto Workers is giving its blessings to a potential Chrysler-Fiat tie-up. Chrysler honcho Bob Nardelli earlier pegged the possible union as a $10 billion bonanza for Chrysler, since the Pentastar would save money on developing a range of platforms, engines, and cars. The UAW's interest is, of course, the job savings: the partnership has been said to be worth 5,000 jobs that might otherwise be lost. But with current timelines, the question is where Chrysler and the UAW will be by the time such a partnership gets to the next stage. Fiat expects to complete its due diligence of Chrysler by the end of this month. But by that time, Chrysler will need to have secured concessions from the UAW and bondholders in order to get additional money from the U.S. government. Whether it will get the concessions from both parties - and what the government will do when it comes time to write a...

Filed under: Car Buying , Chrysler, LLC. , GM General Motors and Chrysler have already received a combined $17.4 billion in government loans to keep them from insolvency and bankruptcy. The argument against bankruptcy has been that nobody wants to buy a new car or truck from an automaker that might not be around to honor its warranty. A new study by CNW Research, however, shows that the mere talk of bankruptcy has been enough to scare buyers away. The study, which polled 40,000 car buyers during January and February, reveals that 12% fewer customers are interested in GM products versus a year ago. Chrysler's decline is far more steep, as 33% are no longer considering one of its products. With GM and especially Chrysler experiencing these severe drops in consideration, other automakers have seen an increase in interest. Ford, which has been able to avoid asking for federal assistance thus far, is enjoying a 12% increase in consideration from buyers polled. Honda is faring even better...

Filed under: Government/Legal , Videos , Chrysler, LLC. , Earnings/Financials , FIAT Click above to view the video after the jump To go along with the email that was sent to Chrysler employees , CEO Bob Nardelli is now starring in his very own video where he continues to extol the virtues of a partnership with Fiat . After stating that Chrysler is clearly a viable company on a standalone basis, Nardelli goes on to say that the Detroit-based automaker's future would be "significantly enhanced" with a Fiat alliance. How so? First, Chrysler stands to gain plenty of impressive technology, including Fiat's new Multiair engine technology . Furthermore, new vehicle platforms could be introduced to the United States market - including the diminutive Fiat 500 - in segments that Chrysler currently fares poorly. According to Nardelli, all of these developments would save Chrysler plenty of money and would allow the American automaker to repay its federal loans in a more timely fashion...

Filed under: Hirings/Firings/Layoffs , Plants/Manufacturing , Chrysler, LLC. Aradco, a Canadian supplier of motor mounts and other metal parts to Chrysler, is currently under siege by 80 of its own workers. The standoff began yesterday when a dozen workers occupied the plant and welded the doors shut from the inside. The workers claim they are owned a total of $1.7 million in severance and termination pay after the plant shut down following a dispute between Chrysler and Aradco, both of which claim they are owed money by the other. The Auburn Hills-based automaker represents 99% of Aradco's business, according to Automotive News, so the Canadian supplier basically went out of business last week when the dispute with Chrysler occured. The automaker is now attempting to retrieve its tooling and any remaining parts from the plant, but was prevented from doing so today by the workers' occupation, despite a police presence at the scene. We've heard reports that both Aradco and Chrysler...
