  • Nissan back on for Chicago Auto Show, still avoiding Detroit

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Detroit Auto Show , Nissan That was short lived. Just a few days after announcing that it would be pulling out of both the Detroit Auto Show and the Chicago Auto Show , Nissan has changed its mind. Sort of. The Japanese automaker will indeed have a presence in the Windy City thanks to the support of its local dealerships, which will be manning the show in lieu of an official factory effort. This being the case, don't expect a particularly showy display, but at least attendees will get the chance to see the new 370Z , Cube and Infiniti G37 Convertible that were all unveiled across the country at the LA Auto Show . According to Nissan, there's next to no chance that the situation for Detroit will change. To recap, Porsche, Suzuki , Mitsubishi , Ferrari, Land Rover and Rolls-Royce have all pulled out of the International Auto Show in Detroit. All's not lost, though, as room is now available for a couple of Chinese upstarts to show their wares at...
  • Nissan pulls out of Detroit and Chicago auto shows

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Detroit Auto Show , Nissan Following the lead of Porsche, Suzuki , Mitsubishi , Ferrari, Land Rover and Rolls-Royce , Nissan has announced that it won't be present at the 2009 North American International Auto Show, otherwise known as the Detroit Auto Show . But Japan's third largest automaker is going one step further than the others and also pulling out of the Chicago Auto Show in February. You may recall that Nissan blew its wad, so to speak, at last week's LA Auto Show where it unveiled the new 370Z , Cube and Infiniti G37 Convertible . With nothing left to show save for a commercial van concept called the NV2500 , Nissan felt its marketing money could be better spent elsewhere. No word yet on what'll happen to the NV2500 that was supposed to debut in Detroit, but at this rate we fully expect to have a large team of bloggers on hand in early January who are bored to death on the show floor of Cobo Hall. Thanks, economy. [Source: The Detroit...
  • Chicago 2008: Suzuki Equator ready to tackle new frontiers

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Trucks/Pickups , Nissan , Suzuki click above to view high-res gallery of the Suzuki Equator Suzuki's Gene Brown showed the automaker's rebadged Nissan Frontier named the Equator today at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show. The Suzuki Equator is set to go into production by the end of this year and should deliver a decent truck experience, seeing as how it is based on the already proven Frontier and will be built alongside it in Smyrna, Tennessee. Acknowledging that many people will probably be asking themselves, "Why a truck and why now?" Brown shared that trucks are not dead, despite rumors to the contrary. He also explained that most Americans think of motorcycles when they think of Suzuki. And with more than a million bikes sold over the past five years, that makes a pretty sizable market for customers who might like a truck with a matching badge. But thinking a little beyond just motorcycle owners, Suzuki developed three different concepts...
  • Nissan-built Suzuki pickup confirmed

Filed under: Chicago Auto Show , Trucks/Pickups , Nissan , Suzuki Nissan is all about collaboration with its competitors, as evident by the rumor today that it could enter into an agreement with Chrysler to co-develop cars, trucks and engines. Japan's third largest automaker partnered up with Suzuki in 2006, and as Mike Levine from Pickuptruck.com figured out, one big collaboration that has resulted is a new mid-size Suzuki pickup that will be based off of Nissan's Frontier platform and be built by Nissan at its Smyrna, Tennessee plant. Both automakers have now officially confirmed that they're working on the truck together, and the only thing left to wonder is when it will debut and what it will be called. Mike Levine again provided us with an educated guess that the truck will show up at the Chicago Auto Show, and based on recent trademark filings by Suzuki, will be called the Equator. We feel compelled to reiterate our initial concern that entering the mid-size truck market...
