Filed under: Auction Action , Chevrolet , Celebrities , Special/Limited Editions Click above for more images of the Batmobile, circa 1989 Built atop a lowly Chevrolet Impala chassis (or two), we don't imagine that the next owner of the Batmobile in this auction will be pulling too many Batman-esque stunts. Still, to own one of the vehicles used by Michael Keaton and Kim Basinger in the 1989 Tim Burton-directed movie is pretty cool. A few salient facts: This sucker is 20-feet long and 8-feet wide, so you're going to need a Bat Cave-sized garage. It's powered by a (probably anemic) Chevy 350 V8, so it's fuel mileage theoretically approaches that of the fictional turbine engine depicted in the flick. Lastly, the new owner will need you to sign a Warner Brothers purchase agreement, which we hear is pretty limiting in what it allows you to do with the car. Still, how many people can actually say, "I think I'll take the Batmobile to work today?" Therefore, we deem...

Filed under: Time Warp , Trucks/Pickups , Auction Action , Etc. , Chevrolet You've got thirty grand and you want a pickup truck, do you A) buy new, or B) hit eBay for a million-mile Silverado. Frank, who had a mild brush with celebrity when the odometer on his truck hit seven-figures recently, would like you to buy his truck. The 1991 Chevy Silverado 1500 is still on its original 350 small-block, though it's chewed up 5 trannies. Frank raves on and on about its remarkable engine and wants it to go to a collector who will appreciate it, but still go out for a ride from time to time. It is an impressive mileage total, but really, who's going to question that a small block V8 is one of the best engines ever? Maintenance has apparently been rather thorough, which is a help keeping any car alive, though we're surprised it hasn't been ravaged by the tinworm. Frank's auction ends in three days and so far hasn't moved beyond its starting bid of $29,999.99. With Employee...

Filed under: Auction Action , Supercars , Chevrolet , GM Click above for high-res gallery of the Corvette ZR1 at Barrett-Jackson The very first Corvette ZR1 has rolled off the assembly line at General Motors' assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and the proud owner of the 638-horsepower hellraiser was there in person to claim his prize. Chevy dealer and Corvette aficionado Dave Ressler won his supercharged Vette at the Barrett Jackson auction back in January for the astronomical sum of $1 million dollars, which equals about 10 times the ZR1's base price of $103,300 . Ressler was allowed to sit behind the wheel of his rarified Vette as it completed its assembly run and exited the factory, and let his granddaughter, Ayden Lynn, ride along shotgun. The special ZR1 is set apart from other Blue Devlis with a unique VIN number and a LeMans Blue paint job that will appear on no other car. After being performance tested, the ZR1 was put in a trailer and carted back to Montana where...

Filed under: Time Warp , Auction Action , Chevrolet Ah, the Eurosport, Chevrolet's well-executed package for classing up the '80s A-Body front-drivers. Catch a Eurosport in your peripheral vision quickly, and it'd be easy to mistake it for a Volvo 7-series, or even an Audi 5000 (G). What we have here is a time capsule in two ways. First, the Celebrity was GM's redemption from the X-Body's failure to deliver on its potential. The Celebrity is the vehicle where the General got its act together, fully years before the Taurus, too. Secondly, this particular Celebrity was swept up in the Pro Street craze that customizers glommed on to in the days when a guy could pull off a hot pink tank top. It's a period piece, built when the Simpsons were still on Tracey Ullman. The excesses of the 1980s are perfectly embodied in the decadent Pro Street movement; the same ethos drove the popularity of hair metal. There was an edge to it, an underlying basis in the blues. Pro Street's...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Auction Action , Etc. , Chevrolet , Celebrities When you need to escape a pack of damn dirty apes, what could be better than a Corvette? Charlton Heston's Corvette, that's what. It's a virtually stock 1999 C5, looking sharp in black with chrome wheels. The current owner has added new taillights, the C6 style rims, and a Borla exhaust. The current bid of $20,600 is a fair price for that vintage 'Vette showing under 20,000 miles, though the reserve has yet to be met. We wonder what type of unrealistic hollywood-connection premium the seller is wishing for. C'mon, it doesn't matter who once owned it, really. Maybe if it were more rare, maybe if it were a Callaway sleeper, then it would be worth forking over more dough. Of course, we'd expect nothing less than someone trying to cash in off the back of a recently passed movie star. Despite the charming manifesto on the listing, this car is no more a collector's item than any other clean...

Filed under: Tuners , Auction Action , Etc. , Chevrolet , Chrysler When offering an item for sale, a fuzzy key selling point like "may be legal in some states already" might not be the deal clincher you'd hoped. On today's episode of "Fun With Centers of Gravity" we have the delightful union of the neuter-car PT Cruiser with the greasy unmentionables of a 29 year old Chevy Blazer. It may very well be legal in some states, but it'll still be unholy everywhere it goes. Build quality appears on par with a dollar store habachi - are those pop rivets on the fender liners? The battery sitting on a folded back seat is the crowning feature of the interior and there's also no heat or air conditioning, making this a fun year-round ride. The zip-ties and extra-fun spark plug wire routing in the engine bay dress up the 350, and the seller believes so much in this powertrain that there's a warranty to sweeten the pot. Let's ignore the fact that the nearly...

Filed under: Car Buying , Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Auction Action , Chevrolet , Ford We've covered the scandal involving Unique Performance from the very beginning , and it now looks as if this sordid tale finally might get a bookend. If the idea of scraping off 13 gallons of bondo doesn't scare you, maybe you'd be interested in bidding on one (or more) of the 44 leftover Mustang body shells that are available for viewing here . Mustang not your thing? Prefer the Camaro ? How 'bout the Chevelle ? Even if you're not interested in any of its cars, Unique Performance owned plenty of other stuff, too. Take a look at these automotive lifts , for instance. There is some good stuff here, and you'll be helping to pay off the company's assorted debts in the process. If you find yourself interested in anything on the Unique Performance fire sale auction list , you can inspect the works on Tuesday, March 25 from 9AM to 4PM. Lets hope that these classics end...

Filed under: Time Warp , Trucks/Pickups , Auction Action , Chevrolet click above for more pics of this Old Navy 1950s-era Chevy display truck Chances are that any car nut who visits Old Navy in the mall has closely inspected one of these 1950s-era Chevy pickups while waiting for a significant other to try on the hottest new skort or cargo pant. It seems that at least one Old Navy store is getting rid of its display truck. eBay Motors is hosting an auction for one that's being sold by the company hired to remove it from the store. The pickup is not a runner, as its engine and transmission have been removed, but the body looks to be in good condition and some interested buyers have already commented that a few individual parts, like the grille, are worth hundreds of dollars on their own. The auction for this Old Navy display truck currently stands at just $1,650 with 32 bids, and there's no reserve price so the top bidder gets it regardless. No doubt a few bidders are planning to...

Filed under: Time Warp , Convertibles , Auction Action , Government/Legal , Chevrolet , Celebrities Click to view more images of Rudy's Corvair Want to get in on the action of the 2008 presidential race? How about owning a candidate's ride? Up for auction on eBay is a 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible, previously owned by former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The classic American drop-top has its original aqua paint job with matching interior and contrasting white convertible top. Although listed "as is", the Corvair is claimed to be in proper working condition with all the original equipment. Giuliani bought the car from Cooper Classic Cars in New York and sold it back to the dealership with 73,650 miles on the odometer in 1996, back when he still had his comb-over, which might explain why he gave it up. (Either that or the ordeal of owning a classic convertible in Manhattan.) The car has been in storage ever since, and at the time of writing has eleven bids standing at just...

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Auction Action , Chevrolet Click the image above for a gallery of high resolution images The automotive world waited what seemed like forever to get its first look at the 2009 Corvette ZR1, but one lucky bidder won't have to wait any longer to get into the driver's seat. The "first retailable unit built" ZR1 was snapped up with a final bid of $1,000,000, not including auction fees. The winning bidder, Dave Ressler, also bought the oldest available 1953 Corvette just a couple years ago at Barrett-Jackson for the exact same price. While the ZR1 on stage was not the actual one purchase, Ressler will get a one-of-one Le Mans blue version that no one else will get. All of the proceeds from the sale benefited The United Way, and everything over the $99,999 list price of the ZR1 will be tax deductible. Not a bad way to spend a million bucks! Filed under: Coupes , Auction Action , Bentley , Chevrolet The 1994 Bentley Concept Java (right) was shown in coupe and convertible forms, and it clearly showcases a design language that is in use today on the current Arnage series. eBay, as you're well aware, is riddled with dreck to go along with some of the exotic and interesting cars that cross its virtual auction block. The "Bentley Java Replica" shown above lands in the "dreck" category with a resounding thud. Based (very obviously) on a late-model Chevy Monte Carlo, this particular abomination comes with a delightfully (if unintentionally) amusing item description, which you can read after the jump along with some additional commentary. Thanks for the tip, Brent! [Source: eBay] Continue reading eBay Find of the Day: "Bentley Java" Monte Carlo not-really-a-replica Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Car Buying , Sports/GTs , Auction Action , Chevrolet , Dodge , Ford Barrett-Jackson has been the king of muscle cars the last few years. Hemi Cudas, Shelby Mustangs, and Yenko Camaros have commanded high dollar bids from car collectors all around the world. Coming this January, Barrett-Jackson will not only have some of the best classic muscle cars, but the best new ones, as well. Lot #1300 will feature the very first 2008 Shelby GT500 KR offered for sale, which will be one of around 1,000 built for the year. Next up is Lot #1316 , the "first retailable unit built" (whatever that means) 2009 Corvette ZR1 , just days after the car's official launch at the Detroit Auto Show. Last but not least, Lot #1331 will feature the first production Dodge Challenger SRT8 to come off the assembly line. Best of all, the proceeds from the sales will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), The United Way, and the notMYkid charity. If previous years are anything...

Filed under: Time Warp , Auction Action , Chevrolet This past weekend in Florida, RM held an event to auction off the Al Wiseman car collection, the highlight of which was this 1965 Corvette cut-away autorama. This amazing one-off vehicle started life as a normal Le Mans Blue Corvette with a 327ci V8 producing 375 horsepower, a 4-speed manual transmission, 4-wheel disc brakes, and a white interior, but it was pulled off the assembly line and modified for the show circuit to show the public the inner workings of the car. At the push of a button, the body lifts up off the body revealing the Corvette's motor, chassis, and suspension. Various functions of the car can be simulated with the help of electric motors, including the crankshaft, pistons, valves, clutch, driveshaft, and posi-traction rear axle. Cut-outs, meanwhile, reveal details about the exhaust system, brakes, transmission, and more. The Corvette was recently discovered in South Africa, where it was brought back to the United...

Filed under: Coupes , Sports/GTs , Auction Action , Chevrolet , Celebrities Tim Allen appears to be thinning the herd a little as far as his personal auto fleet's concerned. As a result, you now have the opportunity to own a lightly-used 2006 Corvette Z06 with a legit celebrity connection for what amounts to fair market value. The car's basically stock save for its powder-coated wheels and has a "Buy It Now" option set at $60K. More interesting than the Z06, however, are some of the other cars in Tim's garage, as you can see above. The old Bronco's cool for sure. Ditto the Road Runner and the matte black Nova next to it. In one of the shots, it looks like he's got a GT350H in his stash, along with a couple of Ferraris of diverse vintage, too. But the one that's got us really interested is that white RS200 . That'd make in-person pickup of the Vette (or the A8 W12 Tim's also selling) a must if we were the auction winners. Heck, we'd pay a little...
