Filed under: Motorsports , Australia It seems like F1 has been suffering the wrong kind of turmoil for the past few years: big and little teams failing; espionage; driver spats; owner-and-FIA spats; record penalties and fines; sex scandals; and regulations...

Filed under: Motorsports , Coupes , BMW , Australia Click above for high-res gallery of the BMW Concept 1-Series tii BMW's little 1 Series has proven itself to be a credible performer that's able to hang with nearly anything else it likely to encounter on the road. But against an Australian V8 Supercar and BMW's own Formula 1 racer? Not a chance. Regardless, these three vehicles will indeed face off at the upcoming F1 season opener Down Under. To help level the playing field, each vehicle will start with a handicap, so the real excitement will begin near the end of the lap when the three cars close in on one another as they sprint to the finish line. The 1 Series that's taking part in the event will be equipped with the German automaker's potent 3.0L twin-turbo inline six and will wear 18" alloys bolted up to a tuned suspension set up with cross-drilled brakes. A set of tii decals and a full BMW Performance aerodynamic body kit top things off. The race will be repeated...

Filed under: Videos , Australia , Celebrities Click above to view the trailer for Eric Bana's Love the Beast Actor Eric Bana has a thing for auto racing. He also has a thing for his car, a 1973 Ford Falcon XB GT that he's owned for 26 years, since he was 15 years old. He combined those passions after completing a two-year-long restoration of the car and entering the 2007 Targa Tasmania . Then he combined those with his passion for acting, and will release his film called Love the Beast about the car and the race in a little over a week on March 12. The movie's supporting cast includes Jeremy Clarkson, Jay Leno, and, um... Dr. Phil - possibly the oddest supporting cast since Weird Al Yankovic's UHF . Incredibly, for those who didn't follow the Targa Tasmania, the new trailer gives away the movie's twist, but it's probably worth it just to hear Clarkson ask "600 horsepower... and leaf springs ?" Follow the jump to check out the trailer. Hat tip to Nick...

Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Misc. Auto Shows , Australia , HSV , Special/Limited Editions Click above for a high-res gallery of the HSV Senator In conjunction with the 2009 Melbourne Motor Show, HSV has announced the release of a special-edition Senator super-sedan. A less-expensive ( $69,990 AU - about $44,600 USD) alternative to the pricier, more lavishly-equipped Senator Signatur e ($80,500 AU - about $51,300 USD) that launched in 2006 , the Senator will be limited to a total of just 89 cars. Thirty of these cars get manual transmissions; the rest will have automatics. While the new Senator makes do without features such as the Magnetic Ride Control suspension found on the Senator Signature, the important part - the 6.2-liter LS3 V8 lump underhood - remains. It's good for 317 kilowatts (425 horsepower) and 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) of torque, which should be more than enough juice to generate a cloud of tire smoke visible from the moon. Auto Shows , Holden , Australia Click above for a high-res gallery of the Holden Cruze Late last year Holden, the Australian arm of General Motors, announced it would be getting a new small sedan based on the global platform underpinning the Chevy Cruze . At the time, it was assumed that the Holden would feature revised sheetmetal and possibly a new name, but now that the wraps are off, it's clear that the only things changed are the badges, grille and location of the steering wheel. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as the new Cruze is a looker regardless of what brand name is affixed to the front. Hit the jump to check out the Holden Volt. Filed under: Pontiac , Holden , Australia Police agencies across the United States are chock full of Crown Victoria cruisers. In all, there are over 80,000 Crown Vics on patrol, but the generations-old cruiser is finally getting consigned to history within the next year. That leaves a huge opening to any company that has a suitable replacement, and an Australian company thinks it has what it takes. Melbourne's National Safety Agency is working on newer, safer and more efficient technology for large markets like the US, UK and Canada, and they have a very solid partner in Holden. Holden builds both the Commodore and the Pontiac G8, giving the NSA both left and right hand drive RWD vehicles with powerful engine options. The very capable GM models also adhere to safety and emissions standards in several high volume markets. The NSA has built a Pontiac G8 police cruiser prototype for an upcoming meeting with the LAPD and the Association of Public Safety Communication Officials, with several...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Etc. , Green , Ford , Australia , Celebrities There's more than one way for Hollywood actors to go green. While most celebrities choose to go the way of Toyota Prius ownership, Eric Bana's chosen green ride is a 1973 Ford Falcon from Australia , a gas guzzler from a time that just barely predates most modern emissions equipment. That car, which is the title character in Bana's upcoming new movie Love The Beas t , was modified to take part in the grueling Targa Tasmania Rally, and we doubt the list of upgrades included bits like catalytic converters and computer-controlled engine management systems. Other stars slated to appear in the new flick include certified motor-heads Jay Leno, Jeremy Clarkson and... um, Dr. Phil. So, what's the green angle? Bana's production company, known as Pick Up Truck Pictures , contracted an outside firm to calculate the total carbon emissions spent in the production of the film. To offset this carbon footprint,...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , Ford , Misc. Auto Shows , Australia , FPV Click above for a gallery of the FPV F6 E concept The Blue Oval's FPV F6 is relentlessly awesome. Loud colors . Alice Cooper eye makeup . Blistering, turbocharged inline-six power. It drops the full musclecar ethos onto a completely modern Australian performance sedan. We love it, but it may not necessarily be for everybody . Ford Performance Vehicles knows this, and the F6's V8-powered evil twin, the FPV GT , gets an additional, more subdued "E" trim level . Darker colors. No decals. No "eye black.". It's a more conservative Aussie muscle machine. When the Melbourne Motor Show opens its doors in a few days, the FPV stand will be home to a very production-ready-looking F6 E "concept." Don't let its rather sedate appearance fool you. Underhood, you'll still find the 415-horsepower, 416 lb-ft , 4.0-liter turbo-six. Ford's performance mavens...
