Filed under: Etc. , Australia Click the image above for a gallery of Axel Peemoeller's 3-D signage Elvis lives. Tupac lives. And we have just discovered that M. C. Escher is also alive, well, living in Australia, and going by the name of Axel Peemoeller . Designer Peemoeller worked out the math to create, optically, directional signage that appears to hang in the air. Found in the carpark of the Eureka Tower in Melbourne, there's no technowizardy here, just a man with a can of paint and a few severely skewed letters. The result: mindbending. And bloody genius. What we can say is that a lot of Ferrari drivers are probably not short of ego, and also probably have little idea of what their cars can do when pressed. Combine a robust confidence with a watching crowd, add a high-powered and sometimes testy car, thrown in a little bit of ignorance... and a pole.. and what you get is the image above. A man in Australia pulled out of a garage in his Ferrari 360 Spyder, took his chance to impress some gathered folks at cafes lining the street, and floored it. The car, as they say in the business, got away from him. The pole in the median did not. We're never happy to see (another) wrecked Ferrari, or to see a man carted away from his toy by the police, so to you kids with Ferraris, please learn from this and stop the madness. There are now 15. A proud dad gave his son the keys to his so-rare-it's-almost-extinct Ferrari, and his son got a little too frisky with the audacious redhead. She didn't appreciate his advances, he lost control of the situation, and that little redhead introduced him to a pole... at a high rate of speed by the looks of it. And as if that didn't beat all, the kid had to call home. While news crews watched. And filmed. Only to have newspapers and blogs spread the story around the world. No word on what his father said, but it probably rhymed with "Why I oughta @#%$*&%!" Police say the driver was speeding, which means he must not have seen these commercials . Filed under: Concept Cars , Coupes , Etc. , GM , Pontiac , Holden , Australia Coupes seem to be somewhat resurgent lately, and the stupendously awesome Pontiac G8 GXP might be set to lose a pair of doors. While that would make it essentially a repeat of what came here as a revived GTO not too long ago, the name is not likely to return. The basic idea has been outlined in the Holden Coupe 60 , itself starting out as an updated GTO, but turning out much cooler. The neo-ponycar wars will require the fitment of the 400 horsepower LS3 to run with the Shelby GT500KR , Challenger , and cousin Camaro . The newly unveiled G8 GXP serves as the benchmark for what this coupe will likely come equipped with. That means big 19-inch wheels, uprated suspension, a meaner fascia and, most importantly, an available Tremec six-speed manual transmission. There should be a GT version, too, with "only" 361 horsepower, which should still offer a significant kick in the pants for less cash. The biggest...

We've already seen some shots of Australia's own Ariel Atom/KTM X-Bow contender, but the mom and pop operation from Down Under has officially unveiled its E-Vade track car ahead of the Melbourne Motor Show. The glorified go-kart looks like it came out of someone's garage, which it did, but it's already undergone testing at the VACC karting track in Port Melbourne. The E-Vade tips the scales at a rather portly 2,094 pounds, but the 402-hp, twin-turbo'd Nissan V6 mounted out back should be able to entertain both the driver and his wind-blown passenger. A track-only version is also planned producing (gulp) 670 hp, with both models sending power to a five-speed gearbox produced by Albins Off Road Gear. A six-speed cog swapper is also reportedly in the works. While we're a bit skeptical about how such a wee-beastie can handle all that grunt with such a short...

Filed under: Motorsports , Etc. , Australia , Motorcycles Proving once again that it is always easier to tear things apart than it is to build them is the Australian monster , as seen above. The builder, Ray Baumann, says that "this is a way of taking a bit more care," if you can believe that. You see, his previous job was as a stunt driver. He claims that it is much safer riding this monster bike crushing cars than it was to jump them on a much smaller machine. Weighing in at 13 tons and standing about 10 feet tall, the monster doesn't appear to have any suspension travel at all. The frame appears to be an upside-down ladder design, with wheels and tires from Caterpillar. What does it take to move this maxi-machine? Filed under: Sedans/Saloons , Etc. , Ford , Lincoln Not that they ever left, but Lincoln's not going to pull what Cadillac tried in the '90s, switching its entire lineup to FF chassis. Derrick Kuzak, Ford's Lutz, has intimated to Car & Driver that rear wheel drive remains part of Lincoln's plans, and that there's a new FR car under development. While the big news at Lincoln lately is the MKS, that car's fan base will likely not know what stringbacks are. Last year's hotness, the MKR , was based on modified Mustang underpinnings, so perhaps that's what's coming. Or, Ford could be looking at the new global RWD platform that's being developed in Australia, though that seems unlikely. It would be expensive to build a car in Oz and shipping would add another layer of expense, too. The MKS is a good start for Ford's plan of more Lincoln sales volume. It's nice looking, the EcoBoost motor will shove you back into the seat, and even the unboosted...
