  • MTM supercharges the Audi R8

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Supercars , Audi Click above for a gallery of high-res images MTM has been adding horsepower to Audis for more than 20 years, and they have put that experience into developing a new twin-screw supercharger system that pairs up to the 4.2-liter V8 in the Audi R8. The addition of forced induction brings total output to 552 hp, coincidentally matching the output of the R8's cousin, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4. In addition to the supercharger kit, MTM also offers a complete line of products for the R8 including brake upgrades, 20" forged wheels, high-flow exhaust system, and a variety of exterior style upgrades. A gallery of high resolution images can be found below and hit the jump for the complete spec sheet. • HP War, Battle of the Tuners: B&B gets 715hp from Audi RS6

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Sedans/Saloons , Wagons/Estates , Audi Click above to view a hi-res gallery of the B&B Audi RS6 A 580hp station wagon (or sedan , for that matter) seems like sheer lunacy in its own right, but it appears that the twin-turbo V10 in the Audi RS6 is capable of a great deal more . Following the release of the 702hp MTM-tuned RS6 M , fellow German tuning house B&B Automobiltechnik has an even more potent tuning package, boosting power up to a whopping 715. So what did the power-hungry gearheads at B&B do to get a 120 horsepower boost out of the Gallardo-derived FSI? They didn't replace the turbos or fit a new supercharger, nor did they bore out the cylinder block for bigger displacement. They simply fitted a new intake, catalyst, exhaust and cooling system, and tinkered with the ECU. B&B are also offering an adjustable suspension and new springs that drop the ride height by 25mm. The result? A claimed 0-60 run in a scant 3.6 seconds. That's...
  • MTM supercharges the Audi S5

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Audi Click above for a high-res gallery of the MTM supercharged Audi S5 The Audi S5 is no slouch at 354 horsepower, but German tuner MTM isn't satisfied and has given the 4.2-liter V8 a serious kick in the pants with an intercooled supercharger package that boosts horsepower to 505 and torque to 403. That's good enough to hit 60 mph in 4.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 186 mph. MTM is also offering a high-flow exhaust system, coilover suspension system, 15-inch brake system, and unique 21-inch wheels. Hmmm... an MTM supercharged S5 or an R8? Decision, decisions. • Rock Solid Idea: Faux-marble Audi S5 spotted in Russia

Filed under: Aftermarket , Coupes , Euro , Audi Growing up in Canada, my mother had a Dodge Caravan with fake wood siding. Then she replaced it with... another Dodge Caravan with fake wood siding. The wisdom of plastic made to look like wood notwithstanding, the van hardly felt rock-solid. Meanwhile, someone in Russia - that bastion of good taste that brought us, among other abominations, that hideous Cayenne/Touareg monstrosity - thought it would be a good idea to cover his brand new Audi S5 with a film that makes it look made of marble. Our first reaction: he was probably stoned when he decided this was a good idea. [Source: German Car Zone via CarScoop ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments
  • Ingolstadt's version of the HUMMER limo

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Etc. , Audi , Toys , Lifestyle , Special/Limited Editions Click on the above image for a gallery of the Q7 limousine Proving that money and taste don't always occupy common ground, we've stumbled upon this 14-seat Audi Q7 limousine (don't worry, it's not a factory conversion). With colorful purple Disco lighting adorning both the floor and ceiling, and heated alligator/snake upholstery covering the bench seats, the faux fish tank above the simulated flames doesn't seem so out of place. While twin 17-inch flat screens are nothing to brag about, the "jet door" mounted on the side will surely get you the looks you crave. Located in New York, we should mention it comes from the same company who also offers a 14-passenger Range Rover, and a 14-passenger Infiniti QX56. And you thought HUMMERS got all the fun... • Swapping Spirits: Audi V8-powered Lotus Esprit

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Audi , Lotus Click above to watch the video Some people just can't be satisfied. As if the Lotus Esprit weren't still one of the hottest-handling cars on the market, back in 1996 the British sportscar firm updated the iconic Bondmobile with an all-new 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8 to give it more of a fighting chance of showing up cars like the Ferrari 355 and Porsche 911 Turbo. Not enough for one enthusiast on the Motorgeek.com forum going by the name of "hilly", who apparently just wasn't satisfied with the engine in his '81 Esprit S3. So he yanked it out and painstakingly swapped in the all-aluminum 4.2-liter V8 from the Audi A8. Although the Esprit's engine bay could accommodate the engine, turning it around and squeezing it in there was no mean feat, requiring the project's undertaker to custom fabricate a slew of parts himself. Follow the link to the forum where hilly describes the process with...
  • RDX RaceDesign uglifies the Audi A3

Filed under: Aftermarket , Hatchbacks , Audi While we like to cover what's going on in the German tuning scene, the haus of RDX proves that we shouldn't stray far from the Lorinzers, Schnitzers, Brabus' and Hartges of the world. What makes this Audi A3 truly horrible isn't the lime green paint, the misaligned chrome-lipped rollers or even the Lambo-style doors that aren't included in the price of the $895 body kit. No, the biggest problem with the RDX A3 is the fact that nothing - not one damn thing - has been done under the hood. If we had to search our souls for a singular redeeming quality, it's the fact that RDX fitted LEDs from the S6 into the front fascia. Otherwise... fail. If you must, RDX's press release is after the jump and you can check the gallery below for another acid-reflux inducing image. • PPI puts Porsche on notice with Audi R8 Razor

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Supercars , Audi Click to view in our high-resolution image gallery If the Audi R8 put "old luxury" on notice with its Super Bowl commercial , then PPI is putting Porsche tuners on notice with its modified R8 Razor. Initially shown at the Essen Motor Show last year, the PPI R8 Razor aims to dramatically increase the performance of the stock Audi supercar with a series of modifications. Just because we love our readers so, we'll give you the best part first: PPI has coaxed an extra 40 horses and 26 little torques out of the R8's 4.2-liter FSI V8, bringing total output up to 460 and 343 respectively. PPI claims that's enough to drop over half a second off the car's run to sixty, down to four seconds flat, with a top speed of 192mph. Pretty impressive, but as you can tell from the pictures, PPI didn't stop with the engine. The German tuning house has fitted a full carbon fiber aero kit, available in glossy or matte finish, consisting...
  • Pics Aplenty: Abt Audi R8

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Sports/GTs , Euro , Audi Click images for hi-res gallery Last night , we showed you updated photos of Audi's A4 and A5 as reworked by Germany's Abt Sportsline. Tonight, we have a similar set of new shots from the same tuner, only this time the subject is the Audi R8, a car that doesn't need a whole lot of work to begin with. Abt leaves the engine alone, instead supplying a sport suspension, a brake upgrade, and new 20" wheels. On the visual side, the car gets carbon fiber skirts and rear spoiler, along with replacement front and rear clips that tone down the oversized factory grillework on both ends. The front openings are now angled and feature colored CF inserts. Matching colored pieces are added to the sideblades and the rear end, too. The new rear bumper cover incorporates a diffuser-style bottom, smaller vents, and diagonal outlets for the exhaust tips. Pretty good stuff, if you ask us, and if the colored elements don't float...
  • Pics Aplenty: Abt AS4 and AS5

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Sedans/Saloons , Euro , Audi click either image for high-res galleries We touched on Abt Sportsline's range of upgrades for the current VW and Audi offerings during last year's Essen Motor Show. Unfortunately, we only had drab-looking photos back then, and frankly, the dark backgrounds didn't do much to liven up the looks of the cars. Since then, Abt has seen fit to produce complete photo sets that show off the company's modifications far better than the earlier images. The available mods are spelled out here , but in both cases, Abt can transform the A4 or A5 with a subtle body kit (especially when compared to some other tuners), new wheels, a sport suspension, a freer-flowing exhaust system, and a variety of power upgrades. In a perfect world where we could have the Euro-spec diesels, we'd happily opt for the Abt-tuned 3.0 TDI. In both cars, it packs 300 horsepower and a stout 442 lb-ft of torque. Yeah, we could get around...
  • Tuner Tuesdays: Edo Competition tinkers with the Audi R8

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Supercars , Audi Click on the image above to view in high resolution There are lots of Porsche tuners out there tinkering with 911s, but it takes a special kind of company to work up the nerve to let loose on a six- or seven-figure supercar. Edo Competition manages to do it repeatedly, and after squeezing more juice out of already high-strung exotics like the Maserati MC12 , Ferrari 599 GTB and Porsche Carrera GT , the German tuner has turned its attention to the Audi R8. By fitting a freer-flowing, lightweight exhaust system, Edo has managed to coax an extra 22 horses out of the stable, boosting output from the 4.2-liter FSI V8 to 442hp while trimming 18 lbs off the car's weight in the process. Buyers can specify a loud exhaust or a really loud exhaust, along with their choice of 19 or 20 inch forged rims. Edo has also crafted a set of carbon fiber aero bits, including a front chin spoiler, rear diffuser and - this is the best part - an eight-piece...
  • Roundup: Abt Sportsline at the Essen Motor Show

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Sedans/Saloons , Sports/GTs , SUVs , Euro , Supercars , Audi , Volkswagen , Misc. Auto Shows Click image for a gallery of Abt's Essen roster German tuning house Abt Sportsline brought everything and the kitchen sink to the Essen Motor Show, and rather than present it piecemeal, we figured we'd put the whole megillah out for you in one shot. From A4 to Touareg, the latest hardware from VW and Audi has been worked over with appearance and suspension mods. Most boast notable power upgrades as well. Yes, we'll even revisit the (unfortunately) red-and-green-trimmed Abt R8, which we first talked about last week . If you're looking for a Christmas-themed supercar, or if you're a really nostalgic New Jersey Devils fan , it might just fit the bill. Follow the jump for the rundown on all things Abt at Essen. • Essen 2007: Abt unfurls tuned Audi R8

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Audi Abt Sportline has debuted its own version of the Audi R8 at the Essen Motor Show with a few changes from the tangerine-colored rendering that we first saw back in April . The front side grills now sport vertical slats instead of horizontal, and the hood is stock rather than a lightweight carbon fiber unit. Another visual difference is the 2-piece side blades, and there is no mention of the supercharger that Abt originally talked about. Still on the car is a carbon fiber rear fascia with quad exhaust, side skirts, rear wing, and front splitter. Abt also adds its own 20-inch wheels, sport suspension system, and massive 15-inch brakes. • Crazy eights! MTM builds an 888-hp Audi R8

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Supercars , Audi The Audi R8 is apparently a tempting platform for tuners. We've seen sketches of the Abt Audi R8 , we spotted the APR Audi R8 at the 2007 SEMA Show, and we recently took a look at the carbon fiberized PPI Audi R8 . MTM, those crazy Germans who built the twin-engine, 740-hp Audi TT Bimoto, brought their own version of the R8 to the Dubai Motor Show. Although visually subtle, a turbocharger system has been added to the 4.2-liter V8 for a total of 888 bhp and 610 lb-ft torque. 0-60 mph can be achieved in 3.0 seconds flat, and top speed is limited to 223 mph. MTM built the car, fittingly named the R888, as a one-off for a European customer, but they will gladly build more of them for a mere €280,000 each. • PPI clothes the Audi R8 in carbon fiber

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Euro , Audi German design company and Audi specialists PPI have released some new details on their aftermarket program for the Audi R8 that will make its public debut at the Essen Motor Show in December. Carbon fiber components are used throughout the entire car, including a front lip spoiler, more aggressive front air dam, side sills, rear diffuser, adjustable rear wing, and matte side blades that are all available in the lightweight material. The exterior pieces are fully functional, improving airflow around the car, feeding cool air to the brakes, and deflecting engine heat away from the car. Lightweight MAG9 wheels are composed of a carbon fiber wheel rim and magnesium spokes wrapped with pavement-gripping Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires. Even more carbon fiber can be found in the interior, including a handbrake, sill plates, instrument panel, and components of the steering wheel. Power upgrades are available as well, including...
