Filed under: Auction Action , Ferrari Click above for a high resolution image The RM sports and classic car auction is one of our favorite events during the Monterey weekend. The laid back atmosphere and incredible selection of cars makes the event a perennial occurrence on our schedule. This year's event was particularly impressive, especially the selection of classic Ferraris. No less than eight surpassed the million dollar mark (seven actually sold), capped by the $4.51 million dollar sale of a 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB. Others breaking $1 million were a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 ($1,925,000), 1961 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Coupe Aerodinamica, and a 1973 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona Spyder ($1,485,000). A beautiful 1956 Ferrari 250 GT TDF Berlinetta had a top bid of $3.9 million but didn't meet the reserve. Follow the jump for a press release from RM and enjoy the gallery below. Filed under: Convertibles , Auction Action , Ferrari Click above for high-res gallery of this record-breaking Ferrari This past weekend a new record was set for the highest amount paid for a car at a vintage auction by a 1961 Ferrari California Spyder selling for $10,894,900 after auction fees. The sale was at RM Auction's second annual "Ferrari Leggenda e Passione" auction in Maranello, Italy, and the obviously wealthy buyer was popular British radio host Chris Evans. While we aren't experts on the classic car market, we can't help but think this sale was the result of a "gotta have it" mentality by Evans with no regard for the actual value of the vehicle. The initial estimate from RM Auctions was nearly half the sale price, and the fact that the car was previously owned by actor James Coburn seems somewhat inconsequential. While there's no doubt that Evans snagged an incredibly beautiful vintage Ferrari, we think he could have got his hands on a California...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , SUVs , Auction Action , Etc. , Jeep , Ferrari Click above for gallery of the Jerrari In 1963, Henry Ford II wanted to win Le Mans badly and was all set to buy Ferrari to boost Ford's racing program. Enzo Ferrari pulled out of the deal at the last moment, angering Ford II so badly that he went on to fund development of the legendary GT40 that went on to take many motorsports victories. A few years later, Mr. Ferrari pissed off yet another powerfully rich American businessman with the outcome being the automotive abomination you see before you. Bill Harrah of Harrah's Casino fame asked Ferrari to construct for him an Italian 4X4 wearing the prancing horse badge. While no one thought to archive the response from Ferrari, we imagine it involved the words 'hell' and 'no'. In Italian, of course. Undeterred and with more money than taste, Harrah created the Jerrari. Its ass-end is a 1970 Jeep Wagoneer , the nose is from a 1969 Ferrari 365GT . On...

Filed under: Auction Action , Euro , Maserati , Ferrari Back in January we brought you news of the first Ferraris being lined up for auction by RM's second annual event at the Fiorano test track in Maranello. With the event now quickly approaching on May 18, a mouthwatering roster of rare thoroughbreds is materializing. In addition to the one-off four-door Pinin prototype and pair of 250 GT California Spyders , a rare 1951 212 Inter PF prototype (pictured above) once owned by Roberto Rossellini and Ingrid Bergman (after whom Ferrari named the color Grigio Ingrid) will be up on the auction block. Other notable lots include a rare original 1971 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spyder, a 2001 550 Barchetta, and one of the special 612 Scagliettis from the Magic India Discovery tour, along with several Daytonas, Dinos, 250 GTs, 275s and F40s, a pair of Enzos, and numerous modern F1 cars and GT racers. Follow the jump for the entry list at time of publication, but with the list constantly growing, be sure...

Filed under: Car Buying , Sedans/Saloons , Auction Action , Ferrari Click above to view the Ferrari 400i Limo in low-res So here's the problem: you want a Ferrari limo. (Don't we all?) A Maserati Quattroporte isn't going to do the trick, and the Sultan isn't willing to part with any of his. You could try to build one and risk being sued by Maranello , or you could log on to Craigslist and buy this one for just $25,000 (or best offer). The vehicle in question is based on the largely forgettable - and therefore easily dispensed with - 1981 Ferrari 400i. It was stretched by Mardikian coachbuilders and retains its 4.8-liter Flat-12 engine. It's listed in good working condition but in need of some cosmetic work. The vehicle is registered in California and being sold in Huntington Beach, Orange County. Check out the images in the low-res gallery below, with our thanks to astute reader Mike who sent in the link. A better specimen of '80s extravagance we challenge anyone...

Filed under: Tuners , Auction Action , Etc. , Euro , Cadillac , Ferrari Say "Italian-styled Cadillac" and any car person will shoot back "Allante." It does appear, though, that Zagato executed coachwork on top of a fourth-generation Eldorado before Cadillac ever thought of shipping its wares to and from Pininfarina. This Eldo looks a lot like a Ferrari, and there's a reason for that, according to the seller. The bodywork on this car was reportedly designed by Luigi Chinetti , Ferrari racer and the first Ferrari agent in the United States. Chinetti went on to found the North American Racing Team, also an official Ferrari venture, and that might explain why this car has NART prominently displayed on its nose. The NART badging is the only thing this custom Caddy shares with the Ferraris under Mr. Chinetti's umbrella, though. The success of his Prancing Horse franchise is likely why this prototype, which was displayed at the Turin and New York auto shows in 1971...

Filed under: Auction Action , Japan , Supercars , Ferrari Thanks to sites like eBay Motors, cars are trading hands over the internet all the time. But seeing a Ferrari FXX for sale online is a considerably rarer sight. The FXX, for those unacquainted, is the super-Enzo that Ferrari rolled out as a dynamic test bed for developing new components for use in future supercars. Only 30 were made, each sold to hand-picked clients from among the company's best customers for the $2 million privilege of being a client test driver for Maranello. The owner in Yokohama, Japan, evidently opted not to re-ante for the FXX Evoluzione program, and is selling his FXX online in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The 15-day auction, being conducted by our reader Japarabia who tipped us off to the sale, is holding at 14 million UAE Dirhams (about $3.8 million) with less than a day to go. (As a special bonus, we've got a five-minute in-cabin video of an FXX lapping Silverstone that's pure aural euphoria...

Filed under: Auction Action , Ferrari This year in Scottsdale, Arizona, Barrett-Jackson was garnering as much attention as ever, selling off all manner of first-edition American muscle cars and Monster Garage monstrosities . But it was Gooding & Company that set the big records in its first year at Scottsdale, selling 64 cars for a total over $21 million. 90% went for more than their estimated values, and the average sale price was over $330k. No fewer than seven cars sold for over $1 million each, including an Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 which brought $1.54 million, as well as a Packard Individual Custom Eight Convertible, a 1963 Ferrari 400 Superamerica and a Duesenberg Model J "Clear-Vision" Sedan. The big news, however, was the yellow 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spyder. As we pointed out in preview of RM Auctions' upcoming event in Maranello , Ferrari only built 100 examples of the iconic 250 GT California Spyder - 50 long wheelbase and 50 short - making this a highly...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Convertibles , Sports/GTs , Auction Action , Supercars , Ferrari Click above to view more images Red and rare. Save for a few vegetarians among us, that's how we like our steaks, and that's how we like our Ferraris. But some are so rare, even the bloodlust-driven connoisseurs among us don't know what to do with it. Take this one-off Ferrari Conciso. It's absolute car paccio. But nobody seems to be biting. The Conciso was built by German studio Michalak Design based on the mechanicals of a 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS (s/n 80962). As the name implies, the idea was to trim the chassis down to its bare essentials. The car has no doors and little in the way of a windshield to speak of. The driver and passenger hop over the sides like an F1 driver, hunker down into the racing buckets, buckle the competition harnesses and strap on the helmets, stored in special compartments inside the cabin. The concept was shown at the 1993 Frankfurt show and in Geneva the...
