Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Aston Martin Click to view in our hi-res image gallery Reactions to the Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS concept were all but universally the same across the motoring press: awesome car, strange color choice. Dark silver or British racing green would have seemed a more logical choice for such an aggressively styled and powered supercar, but then, we wouldn't be talking about its silver or green paintjob two months later, now would we? The baby blue hue used on the V12 Vantage RS made a lot more sense when, a month later, Aston revealed it was reviving the classic Gulf racing livery for its Le Mans-challenging DBR9s , the same racing machine that donated its engine to the Vantage concept. But while it might have made sense to call the concept's color Gulf Blue, Aston instead opened up a contest to "name that hue". The results have since come in: "Mako Blue" was the name chosen, submitted by Mat Watson. Mako is not...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Spy Photos , Sedans/Saloons , Aston Martin click above to view both spy shots of the Aston Martin Rapide The spy shot we showed you two days ago of an Aston Martin Rapide prototype being refueled at a gas station is actually one shot in a set of two, the other showing the four-door coupe's front end (above). We're amazed at how little has changed on the Rapide during its journey from concept to production car so far. Everything down to the flush door handles and 10 twin-spoke wheels appears to be identical. There's still a lot of time, however, between now and at least next year when the Rapide is expected to debut for the design to change. What we'd really like to see is the interior of this prototype, since the concept's interior was incredibly opulent and included an "emergency kit" containing two bottles of champagne, Aston Martin-branded drinking glasses, a cigar cutter and a chessboard in the boot. We doubt these items will...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Detroit Auto Show , Coupes , Supercars , Aston Martin click above image for big high-res gallery of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS The Aston Martin V12 Vantage RS we told you about yesterday is the real deal. Though officially referred to as a "Performance Concept Car" during its debut at the opening of Aston Martin's new design center yesterday, it's fully functional like all of Aston's concepts and Ulrich Bez, the automaker's CEO, said if the interest is there, they'll build it. We don't know about you, but we're pretty interested in a 3,527-lbs. car with a race-derived V12 motor producing 600bhp. Performance for the car has been conservatively quoted as 4.0 seconds to 62 mph and 8.5 seconds to 100 mph. Today we can better analyze the design of the V12 Vantage RS thanks to a bevy of high-res images released by Aston Martin this morning. What would you call that color, Cornflower or Baby Blue? Either way, we're not...

Filed under: Concept Cars , Sports/GTs , Supercars , Aston Martin Good keeps getting better over at Aston Martin, who never seem to tire of making their sports cars faster and faster. The latest in the speed wars from their new headquarters in Gaydon is this adrenaline-dripping special-edition V12 Vantage RS. Into what could very well prove to be the fastest, hottest Aston Martin yet, the newly independent British automaker has dropped the V12 reactor not from the recently demised Vanquish, not from the road-going DB9 or Bond-tastic DBS derivative, but from the DBRS9 race car. With somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 horsepower (!) pushing 3500 lbs, the V12 Vantage RS is anticipated to clock a 0-60 time in the 3's on its way to a 200-mph top speed. Performance target: Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano. That's highly ambitious, considering that the Fiorano is widely acclaimed as one of the most competent supercars on the planet, but with that kind of juice in such a brilliant package as the...
