Filed under: Aftermarket , SEMA , Tuners , Convertibles , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Mercedes-Benz Click above for a high-res gallery of the Carbonite SL If you were this close to purchasing an SLR but recent events concerning a guy named Lehman severely reduced your amount of disposable cash, then allow us to introduce you to the SL Carbonite. For the price of a 2003-2008 Mercedes SL, plus $47,400 for Carbonite's hood, fenders, front and rear fascias, lowered suspension and Mandrus 20-inch wheels, you can have an SL(R) for a song that's a lot less pricey than the Mercedes-McLaren. Carbonite has also said it will only build 20 of these cars per year, which means your money could get you even more exclusivity than the real thing. Of course, what your money can't do is erase the fact that you don't actually have the real thing -- but that hasn't stopped so many others... Check out the high-res gallery of doppelganger shots below. Gallery: SEMA 2008: Carbonite SL(R) SEMA 2008...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Concept Cars , SEMA , Tuners , Crossovers/CUVs , Mercedes-Benz Click above for high-res galleries of each SEMA-fied Merc GLK Today is a historic event. No, not that one. The 2008 SEMA show is the first time Mercedes-Benz has participated in the aftermarket antics in Vegas and it's chosen the GLK to be the standard-bearer for its entry into the realm of U.S. tuning. Four concepts graced the stage last evening ahead of their debut at the show, each attempting to highlight the GLK's strong points while taking sharp aim at the buyers Mercedes hopes to bring into the tri-point fold. The first, and arguably most extreme of the four, is the Urban Whip from Boulevard Customs, which turns the cute 'ute into a true roadster by removing every pillar aft of the windshield (cut down by 5.5 inches) and fitting a biggie-sized grille, three-inch wider track and 15-inch Brembo brakes eclipsed by 26-inch custom wheels. In addition to adding a 5,700-watt stereo, Boulevard...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Supercars , Mercedes-Benz Click above for a massive gallery of the Hamann Volcano After teasing us with a video montage of the Hamann Volcano, the tuner has finally released details on its reworked Mercedes McLaren SLR supercar. With 5.4-liters of supercharged displacement to work with, Hamann turned up the boost with a new pulley, custom exhaust manifolds and tuned ECU to bring output up to 700 hp and 612 lb.-ft. of torque - an increase of 74 hp and 37 lb.-ft., respectively. In order to keep temps in check, Hamann added an additional water pump, and to make better use of the extra grunt, fiddled with the transmission's control unit. The 0-60 time is down to 3.6 seconds and top speed is now nine mph faster than the standard SLR and seven mph faster than the 722 edition. Carbon fiber pieces replace the front and rear wings and the side skirts, while a new hood, diffuser and front spoiler all do there best to keep things as slippery as possible under...

Filed under: Aftermarket , SEMA , Tuners , Crossovers/CUVs , Mercedes-Benz Mercedes-Benz' presence at SEMA has traditionally included a smattering of pimptastic E- and S-Classes lining the booths of the Big Balla tuners, and this year, we can expect more of the same. But to get the word out about the new GLK, Mercedes enlisted the help of four firms to accentuate the lil' 'ute's character and clientele. Filed under: Aftermarket , SEMA , Tuners , Videos , Supercars , Mercedes-Benz Click above to view the video Hamann is continuing to expand its lineup to include the top tier of luxurious performance, and it looks like the tuner has finally turned its attention to the Mercedes SLR McLaren. A teaser video has been released, showing the conservatively named "Volcano" SLR sporting three-piece deep-dish wheels, two-ton paint, massive rear wheel arches, roof scoop, rear diffuser and wing. Details are limited right now, but we suspect more information will leak its way out before the SEMA show next month. In the meantime, hit the jump to view the video. Hat tip to strekov. Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Mercedes-Benz Click the image above for a high-res gallery of the Kicherer CL60 If Drake, the ur-vampire from Blade Trinity , were a car, this is the car he would be. Starting with a CL600, tuning firm Kicherer didn't waste time throwing pieces at the car's already aggressive styling. Instead, Kicherer attacked the CL's jugular: sloppy performance due to the car's portliness. The biturbo V12 gets 53 extra horses to corral 570 in total, torque gets smacked up to 664 lb-ft., the engine gets a new transmission control module to better deal with the extra juice, and out back, the rear axle gets a locking rear differential. The car is lowered an inch, and firmer springs help keep things settled when it's go time. Will all this turn the car into a cheetah? Probably not, but with the carbon goodies added throughout and the 20-inch Kircherer RS-1 wheels, it will look mighty good doing whatever it does. You can see for...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Concept Cars , SEMA , Tuners , SUVs , Mercedes-Benz Click above for a hi-res gallery of the GLK SEMA show cars Perhaps you've heard: Mercedes-Benz has this new SUV called the GLK , and it's not just the Sex and the City audience that's being targeted. The compact ute's getting-to-know-you tour will make a stop at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, where four concept versions will be on display. We already told you about RENNtech's hybrid Rally Racer show truck, and now we have some info on the other three versions that'll join it in Vegas. Naturally, BRABUS will represent, skinning the GLK300 Bluetec in Widestar duds, new wheels, and the de rigeur custom interior. No power upgrade yet, it seems, but knowing BRABUS, they'll have a version putting out approximately a trillion horsepower by the time the GLK is in customers' hands. Boulevard Customs is prepping the GLK "Urban Whip" , a garish creation sporting 26" wheels and...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Mercedes-Benz Click above for high-res gallery of the Kleeman-tuned CLK63 AMG Black Series There's not much we would change about the Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series. Its 6.2-liter V8 produces gobs of power and torque, and the F1-inspired design is a beautiful combination of form and function. Danish tuner Kleemann, however, thinks that it could use some tweaking and has introduced a tuning package that it considers to be a sophisticated optimization. Horsepower has been increased from 507 to 545 via a remapped ECU and an upgraded exhaust system that includes high-flow exhaust manifolds and downpipes with sport catalytic converters. The stock 19-inch AMG wheels have been replaced with 20-inch Kleemann TS-6 3-piece wheels. Finally, the Kleemann logo replaces the standard badges on the trunk. Sophisticated, yes, but whether it's the limited production and possible collectability or the fact that we just like the car as is, we think we'd...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , SUVs , Mercedes-Benz Click above to view more of the RENNtech GLK Of all the trucks that have proliferated into the Mercedes-Benz line-up, the GLK isn't exactly the most aggressive. But according to the latest reports, Mercedes is lining up an array of aftermarket tuners at the SEMA show to infuse what appears to be more than a little testosterone into the compact sport-ute. First up to bat is RENNtech, the Florida-based company responsible, among other things, for the bringing the McLaren SLR 722 to America and actually getting it to produce 722 horsepower . RENNtech has taken inspiration from the Pikes Peak challenge - one of the most iconic and power-craven hill-climb events in the world - to create this hardcore GLK. Little is known in the way of details, but the vehicle is said to feature RENNtech's first performance hybrid drivetrain. Brabus, Blvd Customs and Legendary Motorcars are also said to be preparing modified GLKs for SEMA, although...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Sedans/Saloons , Mercedes-Benz Click above for a high resolution image We usually try and reserve judgment when it comes to aftermarket styling packages. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and different people prefer different styles. In this case, however, we have to take exception with this body kit from Wald. First the name - Black Bison Edition? We can understand the metaphor of a prancing horse or a raging bull, but this one just doesn't make sense. And the actual body kit? The massive rear wing on a Mercedes-Benz screams boy racer, and the excessive vents don't go very well with subtle German styling. The only redemption are the semi-attractive two-tone wheels. We'll have to pass on this one... Gallery: Wald C-Class Black Bison Edition [Source: eMercedesBenz.com ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Sedans/Saloons , Mercedes Benz Click above for high-res gallery of the Väth V63RS There's no shortage of Mercedes-Benz tuners, and we're used to having news tips in our email box regarding BRABUS, Kleemann, Lorinser, Carlsson, etc. That's why we were curious when we received a tip about a company taht we'd never heard of called Väth. The German aftermarket company has products for the entire Mercedes-Benz lineup, the latest of which is the V63RS Clubsport based on the C63 AMG that you see here. Väth essentially leaves the exterior untouched and focuses on the performance including an upgrade of the V8 to 585 bhp and 509 lb-ft torque that will power the car to a top speed of 202 mph. Other upgrades available include a sport suspension, high performance brakes, 19-inch wheels, and sport seats. Complete cars are available at a hefty 125,000 Euros, although components can be purchased individually, as well. Just like the BRABUS...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , SUVs , Euro , Mercedes Benz click image to enlarge Carlsson has applied its tuning magic to the new M-Class with a host of power, visual, and interior upgrades. Starting with the engine, Carlsson's performance kit for the 320 CDI engine boosts horsepower to 269 and torque to 452 lb-ft, and a new exhaust system with quad tailpipes is also available. The suspension can be upgraded with Carlsson's C-Tronic system that lowers the vehicle 40mm, and 22" 11-spoke wheels help fill the wheel wells even more. A subtle front spoiler and a diffuser-look rear skirt are the only exterior modifications. Interior appointments include alcantara and leather seats, a sport steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and illuminated door exit lights. Once again, Carlsson proves that sometimes it doesn't take much to make a better Benz. Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Wagons/Estates , Mercedes Benz Carlsson, Meister tuners of Mercedes-Benz, have announced their tuning program for the new C-Class Estate. Their C-Tronic performance kit adds some punch to the available diesel diesel motors -- 34 horsepower for the 220 CDI engine, and a total of 42 horsepower for the 320 CDI engine. These upgrades also improve fuel economy and reduce emissions by ten-percent. For the 3.5-liter V6, Carlsson has its CK35 Performance Kit which increases horsepower to 295 and torque to 284 lb-ft. Body modifications are handsome and tasteful, and include a front and rear fascia, side skirts, and a subtle rear spoiler. If that seems a little boring, owners can always go with the polished grille, sport springs, and 11-spoke 19-inch wheels. Get Carlsson's official report from their press release after the jump. Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Supercars , Mercedes Benz , Misc. Auto Shows Click the image above for a gallery of high-res pics. Of all the products in Mercedes' stable that could benefit from a thorough tweaking, the McLaren SLR isn't one of them. But Brabus has built its name on taking things to the illogical extreme, and its modification of the new SLR Roadster is no different. Equipped with a new set of cams, exhaust and a system to cool the fuel, the blown V8 now produces an additional 23 HP that's sent through the stock transmission and down to a clutch-type LSD. 0-to-60 times drop down to 3.6 seconds and the top speed has been increased to 209 mph. A new carbon fiber front spoiler and rear diffuser, tuned by Brabus in the wind tunnel, reduces lift at speed, while the factory rolling stock has been ditched in favor of 9.5x20-inch wheels in front and 11.5x20-inch hoops in the rear. Inside, the Teutonic tuners offer well-to-do buyers nearly unlimited upholstery designs...
