Filed under: Aftermarket , Gadgets , Euro , Tech var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/design/When_you_re_bored_with_one_color_car_use_tape'; When a BMW 335i owner in Munich became bored with his black coupe, he hired a team to wrap it in white tape. Two days later, he drove home in his refreshed "Alpine White" coupe (with an M3-appearing black roof). No, it's not normal tape. It's a special 3M wrap, and the process is known as "foiling." Apparently, the German military has been using the process (with an olive drab tape) for some time now. Likewise, the process is popular with race teams and taxi companies. Available in countless colors, the tape itself is thick enough to protect the paint from minor chips and nicks, and it can be left adhered to the surface for 3-4 years without damage (!). Adhesion isn't a problem either, as the tape can even withstand an automatic car wash without peeling off. Thanks for the tip Frank. Gallery: Foil Tape Paint Job ...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Supercars , Lamborghini Click above for high-res gallery of this TT Gallardo Jason Heffner is in the business of building fast cars. We're talking about quadruple digit horsepower, spinning the tires at 100 mph and pulling-away-from-a-Bugatti-Veyron fast cars. You might remember watching a Heffner-powered twin-turbo Ford GT that could hit 222 mph in the standing mile . His latest project is this twin-turbo Lamborghini that's putting down 930 horsepower and 762 lb-ft torque at the wheels. This particular owner also wanted to cut some weight, and added a carbon fiber deck lid and rear diffuser, race seats, and lightweight wheels. Follow the jump to see the extensive upgrade list, or check out the photos below. Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Japan , Supercars , Nissan Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2009 Nissan GT-R. The word from Japan's BestCar magazine is that Nissan has delayed the launch of the GT-R Spec V in Japan from this fall to sometime later this year or early 2009. The reason for the delay hasn't been divulged, but as a stop-gap measure, Nissan will be releasing an Evolution or S-Tune version fitted with several of the parts developed by NISMO and fitted on the race-spec version of the GT-R that campaigned in Tokachi 24-hour enduro . The launch of the Evolution/S-Tune model will coincide with the release of NISMO's line of performance parts , due out later this month, and will include suspension upgrades, new aero parts, wheels and tires, along with a revised ECU and a new exhaust system. Look for an official announcement from Nissan on August 20th. Gallery: Nissan GT-R Spec-V - spy shots Gallery: NISMO Tokachi 24-hour Nissan GT-R [Source: BestCar via LeBlogAuto...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Etc. , Toyota Click above for gallery of the gold-trimmed Camry Taste: some have it, some don't. Case in point this Toyota Camry spotted in Dubai where the burgeoning middle class apparently wants to roll just like their oil-funded upper class but lack the money to secure a Rolls-Royce or Bentley. While we've reluctantly grown accustomed to customers opting for the gold-tone bright-wear instead of the standard chrome detailing - especially on cars like the Camry - this owner actually had the badges, grilles, side mirrors and wheels plated in 24k gold. Seriously. If this somehow strikes you as a good idea, it can be yours for only 135,000 Dollars. Thankfully those are Arab Emirate Dollars, worth about $37 grand in American greenbacks. But please, if you're even thinking about it, contact us first and let us convince you of all the better ways you could spend $37k on a new car that won't instantly lose half its value the minute you take a wrong turn...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Chevrolet Click above for a high resolution image C6 Corvette owners wanting to seriously upgrade have quite a few choices. Companies like Lingenfelter , Callaway , and Pratt & Miller can turn the C6 into a vehicle capable of taking on the world's best supercars. Not to be left out, Detroit-based Specter Werkes/Sports launched its GTR package for the C6 Corvette last week that features an extensive carbon fiber widebody kit, heat extractor hood, Stoptech brakes, Forgeline or HRE wheels, Corsa exhaust system and more. The customer of the first C6 GTR also opted for Specter's Matrix II engine package that includes a stroker engine increasing displacement from 6.2L to 6.8L and boosting horsepower to 545 bhp and torque to 530 lb-ft. More details on Specter's GTR package and this particular car's features can be found after the jump. Filed under: Aftermarket , Motorsports , Tuners , Nissan Nissan's motorsports arm has been hard at work developing parts for the GT-R, and on August 20th, R35 owners in Japan will get their first taste of NISMO's efforts. Tuning packages - ranging from street to circuit kits - will be offered in either comprehensive combinations or ala carte, and will include wheels and tires, carbon fiber aero parts, exhaust systems, tweaked ECUs and upgraded cooling kits. All the parts have already undergone rigorous testing, primarily during NISMO/MOTUL's campaign of a race-prepped R35 GT-R in the Tokachi 24 hour endurance race . More details are due out in a few weeks, although there's no word on if or when these parts will be available in the U.S. Gallery: NISMO Tokachi 24-hour Nissan GT-R Gallery: In the Autoblog Garage: 2009 Nissan GT-R [Source: GTRBlog ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Aftermarket , SUVs , Bentley , HUMMER You can click to see more of the Bentley-bodied HUMMER, but we wouldn't recommend it Bentley doesn't make an SUV. Though they've contemplated and toyed with the idea , the boys in Crewe ultimately decided against it . Sure, some of their sedans and coupes are roughly the size of trucks, with engines of similar proportions and torque output, but they hardly fulfill the same purpose as a sport-ute. So what's a guy to do? Well, most would pick up a Range Rover, frankly. Or a Q7 from Bentley sister-brand Audi. Badges aside, even a VW Touareg V10 TDI would fit the bill. But one driver apparently didn't like any of those ideas, so he had his own Bentley SUV made up. Er, sorta. The abomination you see above is actually based on - yep, you guessed it - a HUMMER. Yes, it's horrible, but don't blame us. We're only the messengers. And just where might you stumble upon such misplaced gluttony? You'd be forgiven for...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Convertibles , Mazda Click above for a high-res gallery of the 2008 Mazda MX-5. Speculation has been swirling over the last two years that a Mazdaspeed version of the MX-5 was right around the corner. At first, it was rumored to be released in late 2007, then early 2008, then early 2009 and then... nothing. Speaking with Autoblog, Mazda's PR man Jeremy Barnes made it clear that the automaker has no plans to offer a Mazdaspeed version of the current MX-5. While it was originally assumed that the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-pot found in the Mazdaspeed3 would eventually find its way under the hood of the MX-5, Mazda discovered that the swap wasn't a bolt-in affair. According to Barnes, "It does theoretically fit, until you bolt on the head." A high-pressure fuel pump on the back of the head, driven off the cam, would necessitate a notch in the firewall. As such, converting the engine from a transverse (FWD) to a longitudinal (RWD) layout...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Sports/GTs , Aston Martin Click above for a high-res gallery of the Premier4509's V8 Vantage. Veilside's luxury and exotics arm has already released body kits for the Lamborghini Murcielago and Bentley Continental GT , and now Premier4509 has turned its attention to the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Any attempt to improve upon the stunning sheet metal of the Vantage is a risky affair, but Premier4509 seems to have balanced a bit of bling with some measure of restraint. The kit includes a new front bumper, side skirts, rear bumper and spoiler that ties in nicely with the shapely lines of the coupe, and the forged, three-piece wheels compliment the aggressive body kit, but will surely compromise the Vantage's already stiff ride. All the pieces are made up of fiber reinforced plastic and optional carbon fiber accessories will be made available, along with new exhaust tips. Sale will begin in the first quarter of next year and will be limited...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Sedans/Saloons , Mercedes-Benz Click above for a high resolution image We usually try and reserve judgment when it comes to aftermarket styling packages. After all, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and different people prefer different styles. In this case, however, we have to take exception with this body kit from Wald. First the name - Black Bison Edition? We can understand the metaphor of a prancing horse or a raging bull, but this one just doesn't make sense. And the actual body kit? The massive rear wing on a Mercedes-Benz screams boy racer, and the excessive vents don't go very well with subtle German styling. The only redemption are the semi-attractive two-tone wheels. We'll have to pass on this one... Gallery: Wald C-Class Black Bison Edition [Source: eMercedesBenz.com ] Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Coupes , Hyundai Even before the Hyundai Genesis coupe made its big reveal in New York , its aftermarket potential was apparent. While the 3.6-liter V6-equipped model will undoubtedly find an audience with the hairdresser set, the 223 hp, turbocharged 2.0-liter model - directly related to the inline four found in the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart and Evolution X - is where it's at. Hyundai realizes if it's to be taken seriously as a true performance player, the Genesis coupe has to be embraced by the aftermarket. So it invited 20 tuners to its North American headquarters in Fountain Valley, California to take a look under the hood. Filed under: Aftermarket , Tuners , Sports/GTs , Saleen When we think of shaker hood scoops, our minds conjure up images of classic muscle cars with rumbling V8s. The current Mustang's retro design looks pretty darn good with a shaker installed as well, as Saleen proved with the Parnelli Jones Mustang . The only problem is that a shaker hood doesn't combine well with one of Saleen's best selling aftermarket parts, their Series VI twin-screw supercharger. Since both take up the same space, Mustang owners have to either choose between classic good looks or a boost in horsepower. Until now. Speedlab, the aftermarket arm of Saleen, has developed a new product called the Super Shaker that is the best of both worlds. Not only does it combine a shaker hood and a supercharger, but the direct injection of cold air from outside the engine bay actually improves horsepower and keeps the motor running cooler. A variety of kits are available, including full systems as well as upgrade kits...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Gadgets The team at Njection have updated their Speedtrap site with new features and more detailed speed trap information. After introducing the ability to upload speed trap information to Garmin GPS units in March, Njection has now added color-coded maps on its website. Locations of user-reported police radar, or other speed enforcement devices, are displayed as colored dots based on the threat level. Low level threats are yellow, while medium threats are orange. The highest level threats are displayed in red. In addition to the map upgrades, a new "speed trap heat map" visually charts the day and time of the week when the threats are the highest. As before, all database information for the free service is provided by registered users on the site who report on their local enforcement tactics. Check out the press release after the jump for a special incentive for new registered users that may or may not be of any value to you. [Source: Njection ] Continue...

Filed under: Aftermarket , Sedans/Saloons , Etc. , Rolls-Royce Click to view the Hemi-powered Rolls in hi-res Remember back in the day when the engine output on a Rolls-Royce was listed as "adequate" or "more than adequate"? We don't know what the old guard would make of this, but adequate doesn't even come close. This vintage Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow has had its "ordinary" 6.75-liter V8 swaped out for a 592 Hemi, complete with dual-stage nitrous system for a reported output of over 1,000 horsepower. The chrome engine popping out of the hood might not be the average Rolls buyer's cup of tea, as it detracts from the usually-dominant classic grille, but the leather-covered roll cage is pure class. And here we thought the modern day Phantom was powerful enough as is....
