(from AC Schnitzer Press Release) Soft on top and hard beneath: The new 1-series Cabrio by AC Schnitzer Viewed from its roof construction, the new 1-series Cabrio is a classic softy. But under its soft shell lurks a hard masculine cornering machine which isn't pushed aside by anyone: especially in the AC Schnitzer version. As honed as a high performance athlete, the car cuts a fine figure even in the car park. The Aachen-based BMW -tuners have transplanted the muscles visually to the right places. In the end, the vehicle is an agile sprinter and not a bodybuilder who can scarcely move for power. At first glance, the new front skirt strikes you - it is less rounded than standard and runs into a slight taper. This, in combination with the diagonal grille insert, ensures a far more dynamic appearance. And naturally the Cabriolet not only has a neat front, but also a strong rear: The AC Schnitzer rear skirt lip or insert (for M-Technik version) provides an extra cross contour in comparison...

The Swiss firm claims the F1 is capable of 420km/h (260.98mph) when unleashed under the proper circumstances. It gets there under power from a LS7 snatched out of a Corvette Z06 and then sandwiched between a pair of superchargers that drive output beyond 660kW (900hp). Strap that powerhouse to a 1,100kg (2,420lb) frame and the result is a power-to-weight ratio of just 1.67kg/kW (2.68lb/hp). The rocket-like power gives similar acceleration - Weber claims 0-100km/h (62mph) takes just 2.5 seconds, while 200km/h (124mph) comes in 6.6 seconds, and 300km/h (186mph) takes just 16.2 seconds - from a standing start. The Weber press note reads: “For attaining a speed of 400 km/h, an automobile must have favorable aerodynamic features. The body of the WEBER SPORTCARS faster one measures 204 centimeters wide and 115 centimeters high. It is structured using ultra-light yet super-strong carbon fiber. Also, another must-know fact is that state-of-the-art aerodynamics computer software and wind-tunnel...

This is what a red Ferrari looks like after it crashed into a guardrail on the Tomei expressway in Shizuoka, Japan on Sunday. Believe it or not the driver and a passenger both survived the crash, suffering only minor head injuries. The Tomei Expressway, the main artery linking Japan's east and west, runs between Tokyo and Nagoya. Other expressways and major railways connect with Tomei so that the transportation network extends throughout Japan. There are 15 Tomei Expressway interchanges in Shizuoka. Getting to Shizuoka City from either Tokyo or Nagoya takes 2 hours via Tomei Expressway and 3 and half-hours from Osaka. © Source: luxurylaunches We need your comments below >>

With prices for a gallon of gas seemingly hitting new highs everyday this three-wheeled Westward Go-4 on eBay Motors may be more marketable than ever, but will likely still require an owner with a healthy sense of self confidence to drive it. Built for urban police forces or security guards in large parking lots, we really admire the go-it-alone spirit of the current iconoclastic owner who uses the Go-4 as a daily driver. The three-wheeler is powered by a decently sturdy 1.3-liter Ford Festiva engine, and isn’t likely to be too dangerous a ride unless one needs to spend major time on the freeway. It also has the advantage of being registered as a motorcycle and getting cheap rates on insurance because of it. Throw in the heater and seat belts, and the package starts to sound downright luxurious. Remember to do something about those NASCAR stickers though. + eBay Motors: 1994 Other Makes Westward GO-4 Police If you’ve got an idea for Question of the Day, a funny photo for Caption It, or...

Filed under: Sports/GTs , Hatchbacks , Supercars , Alfa Romeo Click above to view the Alfa Romeo brothers in hi-res When I was a little kid I wanted to be like my big brother. I would dress the same as him, go to the same places as him, do the same things as him... It never really worked because, at the end of the day, I never looked anything like him. So while I doubt I was the only one, I had one eyebrow raised when Alfa Romeo set out to mimic the design of its show-stoppin', range-toppin' 8C Competizione with a new entry-level model. A mass-market hatchback designed to look like an ultra-exclusive supercar? Well Alfa arguably achieved just that with the new MiTo, and to prove that point it's graced us with a whole gallery of new images of the two siblings side by side. The kid brother may look that much more junior in juxtaposition, but the resemblance is uncanny. See for yourself in the gallery by clicking the thumbnails below. Having recently tested BMW’s new M3 Coupe and M3 Sedan , we were excited to get some more time in BMW’s M-series of cars. This time around, we were provided with a M6 Coupe, boasting a 500-horsepower V-10 engine and looks that stopped many people dead in their tracks. With an as-tested price of just over $111,000, however, we can think of some better alternatives on how to spend a budget that big. Click through the jump to read our full impressions and click the images below to launch a gallery. Nate Luzod Art Director The M6 has been and will always be a sweet drive. What’s not to love about a 500-horsepower, V-10 BMW coupe? You can hit triple digits in this thing and not even feel it (so we hear). It’s an absolutely perfect high-speed machine, so smooth in execution that it’s almost unemotional. Until I drove the M3, this was consistently one of my favorite BMWs. So much has happened in the past year, though. While I love the M6 in a manual, is that love worth $111,320 and a tank you...

Filed under: Euro , Supercars Monaco is a name and a place synonymous with fast cars. Between the obscenely wealthy residents and high-profile races like the Monaco Grand Prix and the Monte Carlo rally, the tiny Mediterranean principality probably has more horsepower per acre than any other place on earth. The glitz and glamor has left little room for industry, however, so the high performance machinery regularly seen on the boutique and casino-strewn streets of Monte Carlo has all been imported. All those Ferraris and Aston Martins may, however, face some stiff competition soon from a homegrown enterprise launching a Monaco-made supercar of its own. The Monte Carlo Automobile ALA 50 was unveiled by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco in celebration of his 50th birthday this past March. Not unlike Bugatti or Spyker, the new Monegasque supercar (seriously, that's what you call someone from Monaco) revives the name of the principality's first automaker, which celebrates...

Filed under: SUVs , Land Rover , Military The Land Rover Defender is already a pretty badass vehicle. So how do you make a no-frills, no-nonsense off-roader even more badass? Why, add more wheels, of course! That's the approach taken by Land Rover Malaysia and Sasbilt Technologies Malaysia, which together built the behemoth you see above. While we've seen more than our fair share of stretched Range Rovers and Hummers, this concept truck actually has a purpose beyond prom night. Targeted towards military applications, the Defender 6x4 Puma features an extra-long wheelbase that not even the jungle camo could disguise. The increased cargo capacity can be used for an electric generator or field telecommunications equipment, and the vehicle can drive through all six wheels or through just four. Unveiled at the Defense Services Asia 2008 show in Malaysia, the concept truck reportedly drew attention from military contractors from around the region. [Source: paultan.org ] Read | Permalink...

With the small car market in the U.S. as hot as it’s ever been , Kia Motors seems to be making a solid move by announcing it will bring its new compact Soul to the U.S. An unidentified source within Kia has said that the company will begin exports of the Soul to both the U.S. and China by March, though Korean analysts have said they expect the car to hit American shores in the early part of 2009. First shown as a concept at the Detroit Auto Show in 2006, the Soul is a five-seat small car built to take on the likes of the Honda Fit and the Toyota’s Scion products. The car appeared again in Geneva in a trim closer to production and sporting a new-look “tiger nose” grille. + Automotive News: Kia to bring small car to U.S. (subscription required) If you’ve got an idea for Question of the Day, a funny photo for Caption It, or just want to share a news tip, let us know at windingroadtips@gmail.com
